First, Deployment Manager can only be used to add new users to the system.
Changes to existing users are done via the web app in the system settings area
under Business Units. You can modify the licenses assigned to user there as
well as their roles.

In order to drop the DB's, you first need to disable the tion
publications on those DB's. This can be done in enterprise Manager, but your
server can not be registered as (local), it must be registered in EM under the
machine name.

There have been made some improvements in the workflow engine of CRM 3.0. But
I can't really say if those requirements can be implemented using the new

There's no way to automatically add a signature, but each user can create a
template for this purpose (Tools > Options > Email Templates tab). They just
need to insert it whenever they create an email in CRM.

The funny thing is, and I probably should have stated this, we haven't
changed anything in Deployment Manager. I don't think anyone has been into
the Deployment Manager in ages. I did add a picklist value to an unrelated

Hi Tami,

I now have MSCRM working.
I did the following:

1. Used Resolution 3 of your suggestions, which show that the Root Business
unit was disabled.
2. I Ran a SQL Update query to change the IsDisabled column to 0.
3. I changed the CRMAppPool Identity under IIS Application pools to
LocalSystem from NetworkService.

We are now able to fully access MSCRM. I am aware of the warnings of using
LocalSystem account as the Application identity. If you have any suggestions
I would be grateful.

Thank you very much for your help on this.

I tried one of Microsoft's addresses in the US and it worked fine, so it
seems to be a UK related issue - either UK not being available on the staging

Thanks for your reply - yes User A is a local admin and so is User B.
User B can create users, modify forms / settings and licences okay
inside CRM - User B is also a local admin on the machine. The
CRMSecurityService is configured to run using a specified account User
C which also is a local admin on the machine but is not a user of the

Groove Activation issues

Posted: 11 Mar 2008 02:03 PM PDT

In the past, I've had to call the main Microsoft Corp number a few times for
this sort of nonsense. (Usually because a foreign call center was providing
the first level "customer support"). Generally, what then happened was that
the main number operator? transferred me to someone that was not first
level, and when I explained the problem, either provided a solution, or
transferred me to someone who did. This generally bypassed the "you gotta
give me a credit card number bit". It also occasionally gave me access to
patches that were not offered via the conventional manner. It also
occasionally gave me the opportunity to explain to marketing and support
management that the system was not helping to maintain good customer
relations, and some of the multiple automated "choose from these options"
were circular in the logic behind the choices and trees. This was back in
the days when the MVPs had to "mail bomb" one of the support execs to save
the MVP program.

The funniest one I ever got into with call centers and computerized systems
had nothing to do with Microsoft. Instead, it was an airline reservation
system that routed a US "domestic" multi stop flight thru a small city, in
of all places, Australia. It was obviously in error, yet would accept a
reservation, calculate the ticket total as the least expensive routing, and
issue a "domestic" US ticket with stops in Australia. The first couple of
calls just proved that others could duplicate the problem. It took two or
three calls to higher and higher levels to get the problem resolved. The
whole thing ended up resulting in paying half the real fare, and getting a
free upgrade to first class.

first. If you run setup.exe from within IsoBuster then only the
actually selected file is unpacked to a temp folder. Best way is to

Hi Fran,

Nice to hear that it works fine under another user account.

Yes, we can delete and recreate the local profile to test the issue. Before you do it, you can check the steps in my last reply to check
if the issue is caused by those items in the specific user profile.

If those steps don't fix the issue, recreate the user profile.

1. Log on as a local admin
2. Right click My Computer > choose Properties. In the advanced tab, click settings under user profiles.
3. Highlight the corrupted profile and click delete
4. Create a new user account. If it is a domain user, login back the domain user account.

Multi-Part Question, probably 101-level

Posted: 19 Dec 2005 09:21 AM PST

Because when you update a task there is no benefit in having anything except
what actually happened. If the task finishes early and you set actuals of
saying that, Project shows it finishing early. That way succeeding tasks
start earlier as well.

Start-to-Finish

Adding to Dave's comment ... remember that in addition to the SF link
driving the timing of the successor there's also the constraint to finish
the task as soon as possible after the project start. The start of the
predecessor determines the earliest possible time the successor can finish
and the ASAP constraint prevents it from finishing later unless something
else such as a lag time gets into the picture.

Leveling basicly shifts tasks as they are, doesn't change work, units nor

Posted: 17 Dec 2005 02:52 AM PST

Hi,

The only thing you can do is what you wrote in your firsdt message, set the
GUI to months.
But when it displays mo or Mon in the data they will be converted from/to
minutes anyway :-(

You're welcome. I don't generally recommend the use of Paste Links in
Project because they are fragile and easily corrupted. However, creating
a hammock task requires them and if they are used carefully and
sparingly, there shouldn't be a problem.

MS PRoject formatting

Trevor,
I do agree that manually formatting individual tasks can be tedious,
(although the method I described streamlines the process considerably),
but I do NOT agree that it shouldn't be done. Is there some bad thing
that will happen (e.g. file corruption, unexpected results, etc.) if
users apply individual formatting? If so, please share with the rest of
us.

Multiple resources with different allocations on a single task

I forgot a few presteps to this.

select all tasks and make them all effort driven, constraint type: as soon

Thanks for pointing out effort driven.

Change the default Project Calendar

See embedded ...

"scott_hanebutt" <microsoft.com> wrote in message

I'm not sure that the 24 calendar would actually be best there. My 3
resources are Joe Day, Bill Swing, and Fred Grave. I have task X to do that
will require 24 man-hours of work to complete. I have several options when
I assign the resource to the task, depending on the needs of my project. I
can assign one of those resources to it, I can assign 2 of them, or I can
assign all three. The 24-hour calendar assumes you will always assign all
three. With the Project calendar set to a normal generic workday for a
single resource, when I enter the task it will show up with timing as if one
resource was going to do it which is the normal level to take the work
breakdown to. That 24 man-hours task will take 3 workdays and the only
thing that changes with my choice of which resource to assign is the time it
starts on the first workday. If I need it done sooner I can add one or both
of the renmaining resources. If my Project Calendar is the normal day shift
calendar, Joe's base calendar is the same, Bill's is an added swing shift
base calendar and Fred's the night shift calendar, I get accurate scheduling
regardless of the way I choose to assign the workers.

Not sure about that example either but have to think on it a bit before
commenting.

Fraid not. However, you can change it after the fact with workflow or via the
"assign" action.

the e-courses are not bad but the best way is to attend an instructor led
course as this will give you all the little insights that the e-courses miss

CRM 1.2 Licensing Question

Posted: 08 Aug 2005 12:17 PM PDT

Not sure if you were suppossed to get 5 licenses or not. If so, then you need
to contact MBS (or your reseller) and ask them to help you out. A new set of
license keys will need to be genned to get you 15 users.

When I entered the license authorization number into the CRM 1.2
installation, it states that we have 10 users. Shouldn't we have 15 users?
Did PC Connection sell us the wrong thing?

300 contacts duplicated in 2 minutes unintentionally *help*

Posted: 08 Aug 2005 05:29 AM PDT

The user is doing something that is causing this. They just aren't owning up to
it. The app doesn't have anything in it that automatically creates records like
this, it must be driven by a process (either SDK code or an import).

viewed records from a business unit

Posted: 08 Aug 2005 05:20 AM PDT

Sounds like the problem may be the security descriptor did not update properly
after the role change. If that's the case, there are really only 2 options:

1) use the tool to rebuild them
2) Change a role again and hope the update propogates properly this time.

It is also possible that one of the users has been shared the other records.
This can happen if the user ever owned the records.

Hi,

Firstly, thanks for your reply.
In the first link it says to get a hotfix from microsoft. We have got this
and installed it but with no change. Step 3 and 4 of this KB doent it
says to use the CRM Admin Tool and CRM AD Recovery Tool as you have
suggested.
I have requested them off Microsoft.
Although the first patch didn't seem to change anything is there any other
things to look at before I get these tools and use them?

Thanks again,
Nathan
