Office SP3 wipes out OE

Posted: 20 Sep 2007 06:25 AM PDT

Hi Cmar,

Outlook Express is part of MS Internet Explorer and the OE program name is MSIMN.exe (MS Internet Mail & News). Usually an Office
update wouldn't remove a portion of Internet Explorer, although it's possible that a shortcut to it could have been 'corrected' if
it was found by the MS Installer to be damaged in which case you might have to do a search for MSIMN.exe to be able to use it.

I mean that OE was no longer on my system. I luckily did a Restore before
the SP3 update so I was able to reverse the entire installaion of SP3,
getting back OE.

It looks like that will be able to answer the question. Also it appears that
the last five digits of the Product ID are the same as the last five digits

A common misunderstanding of going back to a previous restore point is
that it only restore the registry and a few other Windows control
files. It does not restore any application, such as Office, files that
were deleted or replaced. You'll need to run the Cleanup utility that

No icon for *.doc files

Posted: 17 Sep 2007 02:25 AM PDT

Thanks JoAnn,

I found a way to change icon. The problem happens because of remains of
Microsoft Office 2003.

I changed icon via "Folder Options" -> "File Types".
There is a possibility to change icon for specific file types.

The problem was because there was set path to deleted file with icons

C:\Doents and Settings\ProfileName\Application
Data\Micorosoft\Installer\(90110409600-11 D3-8CFE-01 5O048383C9}\pptico.exe

A provided the same file name as for *.docx doents and this solved the
problem.

Konstantin

How to create bookmarks from MS "Save as PDF" add-in?

Actually, if you only want bookmarks for the final PDF output, you
don't have to add bookmarks one by one manually in Word on behalf of
all the headings in the doent. Just add a dummy bookmark anywhere
and delete it right away. Kinda kick start its "bookmarking instinct".
After that, whenever you start out to save it as a PDF file, the
options window allows you to create bookmarks from headings. The add-
in takes care of the hassle of generating and linking the bookmarks
duly for the resultant PDF doent, even though no bookmark has been
added explicitly to the parent Word doent.

Isn't that cool or what?

Installing Office 2007 via gpo

Posted: 14 Sep 2007 06:18 AM PDT

Hi Stacy,

GPO deployments basically don't use .MSP files, so you'll need to go with a different approach using config.xml files and or scripts
to pull in your changes rather than using the new Setup.exe /Admin feature.
There are some details on doing this in the MS Office 2007 Resource Kit available through http://microsoft.com/office/ork

========
<<"srd" <microsoft.com> wrote in message news:com...
I clicked on the link you provided and it is unavailable for some reason.

I am using the setup.exe /admin command to customize the MSP file. Then I
run the setup.exe on my test PC. It works and I have installed Office 2007
Std with all updates using this method.

The problem that I seem to be having is that I want to include the PDF
add-in in the installation but it is a MSI file instead of MSP and it doesn't
install.

I also tried adding the .msi and .cab file to the customization file to
install after Office but that doesn't work either. Any ideas?

What causes MS Office files to save as name.docx

Posted: 13 Sep 2007 06:56 PM PDT

In article <#phx.gbl>,
org says...

While you might be able to name a few reasons to run Office 2007, there
is no ROI for it and little reason for the majority of the world to move
to it. Since few businesses or individuals use more than 15% of the
features available and since I have already installed Office 2007 on 30
machines here, I can honestly say that it's decreased productivity,
slower on every machine that was running Office 2003, offers nothing to
any of the 2500 clients we've asked.

So, while I don't speak for the world, for those that don't see the
benefit of 2007, it's completely rude to use a doent format that
others can't work with, and it's a given the more people have DOC than
DOCX ability. Most people that have a clue would ask about the format
before sending doents.

Users Missing from Active Directory

Posted: 24 May 2005 07:20 AM PDT

Here's how:-

On the Windows 2003 server cd there is a Support Tools install that can be
installed on the Ad machine.
1. Once you have this installed go to (Start | Programs | Windows 2000
Support Tools | Tools | ADSI Edit).

2. Expand Domain NC (domain name).

3. Expand DC=domain controller name.

4. Expand CN=Users.

5. Find the user that is not showing up. Right click on the user and choose
properties.

6. In the properties window under the Attributes tab click on the drop down
for Select a property to view and choose userAccountControl.

7. This will give you a Value number.

8. Take a look at this microsoft KnowledgeBase article 305144
<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305144> to find out
what that number means.

If a password is not required for the user then that could be one reason why
the user is not showing up.

9. From within ADSI edit you can change the value of the user. A value of
512 means normal user. This user would then show up in User Manager. Compare
the values with the users that do show up.

Note - When changing the userAccountControl you are changing the settings of
the user so please be careful when making these changes

It can probably be scripted to do bulk updates - but don't ask me how!

converting a word document to PDF

Posted: 25 Oct 2014 07:57 AM PDT

Hi

I have built a 10 page word document for publishing on my website

I have installed a picture into this build and selected a page colour of blue-grey text 2 lighter 40% and converted to PDF

I require PDF for my Flipbook build software

the built PDF page shows a different lighter colour that of a much lighter blue-grey unspecified  I cannot find it in the standard colour options

Thinking it may be an issue as I had sent this Word build via Hotmail to a fellow webmaster, he adding his content then returning the document I then decided to start a NEW word build

printing off the original Word document I retyped the entire document onto a new build

Converting to PDF I got the same lighter colour result on the PDF build

So finally I did another Word build, this time just typing in a few words onto the page adding my blue-grey page colour , saving all and converting to PDF

it worked !!!!

Any ideas as to what is going on as I have been building these word/PDF files for months using this colour and have had no problem

I have incidentally removed the previous versions from the Word system and I still get this lighter colour in any new build

thank you in anticipation

Imaging to 'Not Available', to uninstall it, restart the PC then readd it with the Doent Imaging Writer using Office 2007 choice
in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel.

=============
OK, you are right. I went back to the machine that had Office 2007 on it
and I went to the "Microsoft Office Tools" folder and clicked on "Microsoft
Office Doent Imaging" and got a message "Insert the Microsoft XP
Professional with Frontpage" (mind you this was from Microsoft Office
Professional 2007), which I did and then, Microsoft Office Doent Imaging
was installed! I did get confused as I thought it couldn't find the .mdi
driver.

So I have two machines that have Microsoft Office Doent Imageing
installed and neither of them will recognize a .mdi file. The only file
format available in the drop down menu is .tif.

So perhaps you can tell me where to get the driver for .mdi files.

Thanks >>

Office does not install Office Doent Imaging by default. It is included in
Office 2003 and 2007. Go to Add Programs in the control panel, scroll down to
Office, click change, find Office Doent Imaging on your setup disk, run all
from my computer.

reinstalling from office 2003 upgrade

Posted: 10 Sep 2007 08:04 AM PDT

Hi, mightymini,

To install the upgrade version, one of the following requirements must be
met: . A valid qualifying product, such as Microsoft Office XP, Office 2000,
or Office 97, is installed on your computer.
. The installation media of the valid, qualifying product is
available.

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834008 "You cannot send a

the article also applies to Office 2007, but just in case I'm wrong, you

Your best route to solve this issue with the Office Enterprise Edition is to contact the IT person at the Company from where you purchased this Enterprise Edition through the Home purchase program. They are the ones that hold the Volume license and can help you with your issue.

Office 2007 Enterprise vs Ultimate

Posted: 06 Sep 2007 08:42 PM PDT

When it comes to an Excel key, if it was in fact an Excel standalone key it
would only work with an Excel standalone product. Standalone keys are not
interchangable with Suite keys and vice-versa.

Ultimate and enterprise keys are interchangeable however. It really isnt
that odd that you dont have Ultimate components since you have not installed
office using ultimate media which contains those componenets.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your reply and the detail information about how you fixed the
issue. I am glad to hear that the problem has been fixed after extending
the Group Policy scripts time out setting (it is not related to the account
permission as the policy is in computer startup).

If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to

| Hi Emily,
|
| Thanks for your reply. I have done some further testing and can confirm
the
| following:
|
| The computers where installation failed were older computers and took
about
| 20 minutes to install Office 2007. Logging on as a standard user or as an
| administrator makes no difference. The installaion runs smoothly for the
| first 10 minutes until the time out for GP logon scripts is reached. From
| this point on you get a few errors in the event log saying that office
has
| not installed correctly.
|
| Setting the time out to longer fixed the problem. (Computer
| Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Scripts/Maximun wait time
for
| Group Policy scripts) I set it to 2400 seconds to be safe as another
older
| computer I tested it on took 30 minutes to install.
|
| With the above setting, Office installed without problem even if no one
logs
| on to the computer.

invalid product key for office 2007

Posted: 06 Sep 2007 05:04 PM PDT

You mention an old computer, so I'm guessing you are now trying to
install your copy of Office 2007 on a new computer? If yes, and if your
new computer came with a free trial version of Office 2007 already
installed on it, then you need to uninstall the free trial software
before you install your purchased copy of Office 2007.
