Mail delivered to the root of domain not MX record

Do they have multiple DNS servers with inconsistent records - so when you
hit one you find the MX and when you hit the other you don't and therefore
Exchange delivers to the A record for that domain?

I would change the automated process to send to the smart host. If you
can't do that, you should make sure that the automated process is
authenticating properly. If your Exchange server is not exposed to the
Internet, you can enable it to relay with reasonable safety, but don't do
that unless you're sure that Internet hosts cannot connect to it directly.

Store Unresponsive with single thread at 100% of one of the proces

Posted: 20 Mar 2006 08:11 AM PST

Hi Ed,

I have tried stopping a variety of services, NAVMSE, Event service and MTA
as well as the backup services and they seem to have no effect. The store
still sits there at 25% CPU and the response to users is poor.

I thought it might be muck in the MTA so did a MTACHECK which found nothing.
I have enabled auditing to see if there is any sort of brute force attack
happening but can't see anything. I have checked all the schedules tasks,
maintenance and replication and moved it all out of the working day but I
still see this problem only during the day and in a predictable manner. I
have a graph of processor usage for a 24 hour period which shows this, if it
will help, I could send it too you.

I should also include some added background as well (it may be of no value
but it can't hurt).
The original exchange site was a single NT4 server with Ex 5.5 enterprise
IMC and twin X400 connectors. Public folders are well used and run a VB based
script to convert inbound emails to public folders to tasks assigned to group
mailboxes. There are about 850 users and 30gb of data. the original server is
called bru02.
Bru 02 fell over about 3 weeks ago with a well corrupted store and had to
brought back from tape which worked well. as a rule we don't trust machines
brought back from tape and remove them from production asap. BRU07 was added
as a new DL380 G4 running Windows 2k and exchange 5.5 was loaded. public
folders were replicated and mailboxes moved to the new box. The scripts were
re homed and all was well with the world... Bru07 has all the mailboxes,
public folders, scripts, x400 connectors and the dir rep connector. The only
thing left on bru02 is the IMC for inbound connections. Outbound is throught
the IMC on 07 and inbound will be asap. The problems started over a week ago
and still have generated no events worth noting nor any message errors or, in
fact, anything in the slightest bit useful.

The big question...
Is there any way to find out what a particular thread is doing? If i knew
this I would know where the problem lay and ,therefore, where to start
looking for a solution.

Thanks for reading this, I am sorry it was so long...

Cheers

On the Exchange server the Primary DNS server is the server on our

There are no external DNS servers configured on the SMTP server as I

Receiving same mail over and over and over ...

Posted: 18 Mar 2006 09:46 AM PST

Hi Deubster,

It would sound like you have a loop somewhere. I suggest you log on to the
account and check all message rules and any forwarding or out of office
settings. Once you have a list of addresses that are forewarded too or
deligated too check these mailboxes, especially if they are external with
limited storage and, therefore, may be bounce due to their storage limit
being reached. You will find that somewhere there is a set of circumstances
that forms a mail loop.

You may also find that message tracking may allow you to visualise the
'path' the message takes.

Reactivate Office 2003 Student & Teacher

Thank you for responding.

When I start Word it comes on as usual. Only when I open a file and want to
use it, or when I wish to start a new document, I get the following error
message

'this modification is not allowed because the document is locked'.

From this I gather that I am getting restricted functionality. In fact the
activate option is not greyed out it just does not work when I click on it.

I should have indicated that I am in the UK.

Well, that sounded promising, but it didn't work. This whole problem makes
no sense. Office ran fine from the admin account. I create two limited user
accounts within 60 seconds of each other. The problem happens with one, but
not the other. I'm debating the following with my coffee cup, which has
nothing useful to contribute at the moment:

1) Re-run setup with the "Repair Office" option. But, this says it'll return
the thing to it's original SR-1 status. Would this eliminate the service
pack & security updates I've done?

2) Delete the troubled user account and re-create. This costs nothing but a
few minutes.

As the others have told you, yes, it will.

My personal recommendation is to order it from Amazon.com. They tend to be
several dollars cheaper plus you get the CDs. No fussing around try to make
some sort of a backup copy when you find you have to reinstall for some

How do I blow away MS Office if I don't have the CDs?

Posted: 27 May 2006 11:35 AM PDT

It's been my experience that the Office 2003 installer will
remove a previous Office edition without the CD, whether you want
it to or not. I'm not sure why you're being prompted for the
previous edition CD.

If you really want to attempt a manual uninstall, I suggest that
you uninstall Office 2003, adapt the following instructions
provided by a Microsoft person some time ago in one of the Office
newsgroups for manually removing Office 2000, and then reinstall
Office 2003.

1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility
from http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290301

2. Run this utility and check if Office 2000(or other Office
version) is listed.

3. Select Office Products and then click Remove.

4. Click Start, and then click Run.

5. In the "Open" (without the quotation marks) box, type
"regedit" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause
serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating
system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems
that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry
Editor at your own risk.

6. Backup the entire registry and then rename or delete the
following registry keys if present:

(I assume this is where you uninstall the works converter)
Uninstalled AND reinstalled works (Works623.cnv is from the Works CD - date
modified 6/23/04 8:10 pm) still no dice.

Deleted those files and rebooted STILL NO Dice.

Since having a working works under XP is more important for me then dabbing
with office 2007, I will end up reluctantly uninstalling Office 2007 and
reinstall my works suite 2005 with word 2002.

However once Vista is sinstalled to its own partition, then I will reinstall

Does anyone have any other workarounds?

"DebbieRy <MSFT>" <com> wrote in message
news:%23$phx.gbl...
Hi Jim,
After some research, here's some info for you:
1) A full installation of Word 2007 installs the latest Works converter
(Works632.cnv), which includes some DLL's from beta Works 9.
2) These Works 9 DLL's have the same name and location as their Works
6/7/8/8.5 counterparts, meaning that the old Works DLL's get overwritten
with their Works 9 counterparts.
3) Some differences in Works 9 cause these newer DLL's to be incompatible
with the older versions of works, so the system loader complains about
missing exports when trying to run the program. As a result, the Task
Launcher is the only Works app that will run (it doesn't have the dependency
on the files that get overwritten).
Works can be restored via the following steps:
1) Start Office setup in maintenance mode
2) Uninstall the Works converter (the rest of Office 2007 is fine)
3) Uninstall Works
4) Reinstall Works
Note that this will mean that Word will not be able to read WPS files. At
the moment, I don't know of any way to fix this (I haven't tried it with the
old converter from the web site, but I don't think it will work).

If you read the FAQ you will see that for questions relating to problems
with Project being used on a server, the correct newsgroup where the experts
hang out is the microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup. Try posting your

There is an update needed field which will apparently identify if there is a
change made to a task or resource. It needs the project tasks to be set up
with Teamassign etc under workgroups. I have never used this feature ,yself,
but it looks promising.

Hi Doniy,

You can't use Outlook for newsgroups, you need a newsgroup reader. I use

Are you expecting problems? Granted, new releases of applications quite
often have their share of glitches but there have been 3 versions of
Project released since 98 (not counting the Professional and Server
versions). Everything basically works the same except for added
features. Depending on your needs you may or may not want to upgrade to
the latest version (2003). I personally find that 2000 has everything I
need, is very stable, and can read files created with alter versions.

Using Project 98 to read files created in later versions can be a
problem. The best bet is to upgrade although if the user who creates the
newer file saves it in Project 98 format you should be able to open it.
Keep in mind though that new features added in later versions will not
be accessible in Project 98.

Hope this helps.

Ned,
Thanks for the more thorough explanation but I'm still confused. You say
that John and Mary are subprojects. I guess it is possible (but highly
irregular) to use a person's name for the file name (maybe it's a code
name or something). However reading further, your post talks about John
participating in some of Mary's tasks. How can a file (subproject)
participate in anything? I suspect that John and Mary are the CAMs (cost
account managers) for two of the subprojects in your master file. In
addition John and Mary may be resources assigned to one or more tasks
within the file along with other resources.

People manage or perform tasks. Subprojects and files are collection of
tasks describing the effort necessary to achieve an overall plan or
goal. Tasks are the detail effort, ideally expressed with action verbs,
to accomplish the plan. Resources (labor or material) are assigned to
tasks to actually perform (or be used in) the tasks.

Now with regard to links between subproject tasks in a master file.
External links should be used between tasks in different subproject
files when there is indeed a true dependency. Through the link,
dependent tasks within one file will update information to the other
file. That is all pretty straightforward.

What I don't understand is why any kind of copy/paste is necessary.
Something is getting lost in translation. If a task in John (or Mary's)
file is NOT linked to a task in the other file, why would you expect an
update in one file to change something in the other file? There is no
interaction!

I'd be glad to offer alternate solutions if I fully understood the file
structure and had a good idea of what you are really trying to do. Until
then, I'm lost.

A silmilar transformation (turning Calendar holidays into fixed date tasks)
can be done by a macro you will find on my website (see address below -
"English - Microsoft Project - Article"). It may inspire a VBA man to write

You can remove the number from the subject, as Guy said and post the article.

Merge Fields

Posted: 24 Feb 2014 12:25 PM PST

I am working in word 2010 and I am having trouble with mail merge.  My data source has a field called "ltr_date" and I want to run a mail merge that says if ltr_date is (current date) then add three days and print that date (three days from the current date.

Also I need help with using the rules, I have a situation that goes as follows:

I have several funds that I want to print in a letter with the amount that is associated with that fund, now each person could have one fund or up to 4 funds I want only the funds for that person listed on the letter and then i want it to move on to the next person and list all funds for that person.

Example of what I need for further clarification.

If fund is not blank then enter amount

if fund is blank go to next person or next record

I know I need to use the next record or next record if option but not sure how to set this up can any one advise me on this.

Office 2013 AD RMS

Posted: 24 Feb 2014 11:41 AM PST

Hello,

I am evaluating ADRMS on Windows Server 2012 x64 with Office 2013 installed on Windows 8.1 x64.

Initially, I tried with the Office 2013 eval version and was able to protect document using RMS. On switching to our vol licensed version of Office 2013, On trying Info->Protect Document it shows a menu item "Connect to DRM servers to get templates". But on clicking that it just shows an error "Sorry something went wrong opening IRM protected content. The system cannot find the file specified"

Windows server 2012 has AD DS & ADRMS installed. RMS uses internal DB. I tried with both https & http URL for licensing. I suspect either I have missed some steps/registry I used with the eval version or there is some difference/settings needed with the vol licensed binary

Is there a document that details the set of steps to implement/configure RMS (on win server 2012) to use with Office 2013 on x64 please? Similarily, Is there a document to configure Office 2013, preferably vol licensed version, to use the RMS?

I would also need to write applications using RMS SDK 2.1 to protect document that would be accessed using Office 2013.  Will setting up the SDK need any special care with the Office 2013 installed on the same machine?

Thanks

Opening Word attachments in O365 Outlook - text disappears

Using O365 PRO (that option wasn't available in the drop down menu).

Recently, a problem has started for me where email attachments look fine in preview and when I open in protected view, but the second I hit enable editing, the text completely "disappears".  It's there somewhere because if I click "Select All", "copy", open a blank document and hit "Paste", it magically appears.  What's up with that?!!

It's a nusance generally but absolutely unworkable when in revision marks b/c the revisions and comments do NOT follow the copy/paste fix.

citations greyed out in a certain document section only

Posted: 24 Feb 2014 12:39 AM PST

Hello everyone.

I have a problem with a particular section of one of my documents.

as title says, in this particular section/chapter the citations are greyed out.

in the remaining documents and in an eventual new one it all works fine.

i actually solved this issue by deleting the whole section, creating a new one and copy-pasting the content from a previous version, and deleting every source already existing in the master list, but i would like to know what could be the cause of this. I have the feel that this could happen again but i can't keep recovering previous versions again and again.

i've read several topic stating that the only solution fro greyed out citation is to uninstall and re-install office, but in such cases the citations were greyed out in every document opened, even a new one.. to me it only applies to this particular document section..

maybe there is a key combination for locking or disabling this function that i could've pressed unintentionally?

also, the document in this case is a complete version of my thesis, made out of copy paste of several single files.. this have caused also several double citations i was manually replacing.. could this have messed out my citation list somehow?

thanks in advance

Count active document file number in folder

Posted: 23 Feb 2014 07:00 PM PST

Hi,

I have a macro that cycles through documents in a folder and prints them to file as a .prn. It works briliantly. However, it has to sort through over 900 files to do so. To speed the process, I added in a code to hide the Word application and just run it behind. This reduces the time the pc has to draw each document on screen as it is opened. This in turns removes the ablity for the user to see the progress of the conversion.

I have found a way to make a progress bar to appear on screen as it cycles through the files. However, I can't find how to determine the number of the file in folder that is open. I found a metkhod to print the number of files in a folder here on one of the forums:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-excel/how-to-find-number-of-files-in-a-folder-via-vba/87c650de-c0b3-46b0-b7d2-284e0b3b328f

I wanted to have a message on screen:

Converting file "active document number" out of "number of files in folder"

Does anyone know how to find the active document number or can suggests another way to show the progress?

I appreciate all your suggestions.
