How you set the user level depends on your version of Windows. That article is
specifically for NT4 and Windows 2000. If you have multiple logons for the PC, you need
someone logon as the administrator to change your security level.

Activating Word 2002

Posted: 11 Mar 2005 02:15 AM PST

also see if this helps...
Activate by Using the Telephone
If you do not have Internet connectivity or you choose not
to activate Office by using the Internet, you can select the
Activate by using the telephone option. To activate your
product this way, start any of the Office programs, and then
follow these steps: 1. In the Office Activation Wizard,
select the Activate by using the telephone option, and then
click Next.
2. Read the Microsoft Office Privacy Policy page, and
then click Next.
3. In the Select your location list, choose a
country/region. Call the telephone number that is listed in
step 2 in the wizard. The customer service agent asks you
for the installation ID and gives you a confirmation ID in
return. Type the confirmation ID in the boxes that are
provided.

NOTE: Make a note of the confirmation ID provided by
the customer service agent. You may be able to reuse the
confirmation ID on the same computer if you have to reformat
your hard disk and reinstall Office in the future. If the
confirmation ID does not work at that time, call the
customer service agent again, and request a new confirmation
ID.
4. Click Next. The Activation Complete page appears,
including the date on which your license expires.
5. On the Activation Complete page, click Finish.

MS Works freezes

Thanks for responding.

I have updated the printer driver in the past (HP). I had not considered
that possiblity however. The video driver from my computer manufacturer is
version prior to the one I downloaded from MS update, but still a ProSavage
driver. I am going to paste a more thorough description of my system for you
and others now:

"When I go into MS Works version 6.0,then tools and try to change the font
in envelopes, the dropdown freezes. Other selections can also do the same and
the program crashes. Sometimes Tool Manager can shut down Works, sometimes
only pulling the plug will turn off the computer. In December 2004 I had no
problem, but I have no restore point that far back.

Installed MS Service pak 2. All Critical Updates up to date.

75% free drive space. 512 RAM. Windows XP home edition factory installed.

Sometimes a virtual memory ballon appeared indicating more virtual memory
is needed, but not while using Works. I have since allocated more space for
that, but it did not help.

No other functional problems.

I use ZAFirewall,AVG antivirus,ewido security
suite,bazooka,WinPatrol,SpyBlaster,Ie-spyad,CWShredder,Ad-Aware SE by
LavaSoft, Stinger,SysClean,SpyBot Search&Destroy. No malware detected in
scans.

Is my video driver suspect? or what? Hardware acceleration is set at
minimum. Defraggmented weekly in SafeMode. When crash occurs CPU use is
100%. Temp files and recycle bin emptied daily. No disk errors or fixes by
Chkdsk found.

Works & XP problem

Posted: 07 Mar 2005 07:07 PM PST

Hi John,

I have only used Works 6.0.

Is Works 4 better then newer versions? Reading previous post in this news
group the answer seems to be yes, they say all versions of Works above
version 4.5 are a down grade.

At the download site...
http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/downloads.mspx#EnglishY2K

There is a Year 2000 Update, it's a 2.89 MB download, seem to recall it
fixes a lot of problems other then year 2000. Think it updates the program
to version 4.5a. Perhaps it might help with your existing problems.

Works 6.0 includes it's Works Word Processor

I have Works Suite 2001, it includes Works 6.0 with it's Works Word
Processor and Microsoft Word Processor.

Thanks Ken,

I downloaded the 'Mail Merg Patch' from that site but still have the
problem. Can you please tell me why I can find no reference to WORD
PROCESSOR in Works 6? Works 4 has database, spreadsheet and word processor -
when I try to open my Works 4 WP document (an invoice I made to print from
database) it only asks me which program and the only one that will open it
is 'WORD' and then it does not have any of the original connections to the
database.

I have both versions 4 and 6 installed and if you say the 4 is as good as 6
I will uninstall the 6 and try to find help on my problems with 4
disappearing whenever it feels like it.

Works-2004 - Install Streets & Trips data?

Posted: 07 Mar 2005 01:37 AM PST

Hello Ken:

Thanks for the help it worked when I used the Custom Install but with a
glitch. When the program started installing the data it stopped mid way with
an Error Message stating that it could not find a file with a choice to
retry, ignore or close. I hit retry several times and then realized that the
file must be on the data CD or Work's disk 5. In put in disk 5 hit retry and
it installed all the data. Everything works just fine. Microsoft should
have done a better job; instead of there being an error message it should
state "Please insert disk 5 and press the continue button [instead of retry]
This would be consistant with the rest of the Works program.
Thanks again for your help

Office XP Problems

Hi Matthew,

If you have an Office11 folder that would indicate that
you had/have installed MS Office System 2003 (v11) over
or with Office XP(2003). What MS Office programs are
listed in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel?

If your program was installed from a CD or a network server
and you need to repair or reinstall you'll need access to
that installation media.

Couple of suggestions, have you tried cleaning the disk? You can get
disk cleaners but a careful wash with mild dish soap and warm water
followed by placing the disk on paper towels will remove dirt and
smudges and often the disk will read OK. Next, do you have a CD or a
DVD burner as well as a CDROM? If so, try reading the disk on the
burner, they seem to read damaged disks better than a CD ROM.
IMPORTANT! If it will read on the burner, copy it to your harddisk and
burn a copy so you'll have it next time.

Last, call MSFT. They have a program to replace damaged disks, they'll
need proof of purchase and a couple of bucks for shipping, I'm not sure
what software is covered but it won't hurt to try. If your copy is OEM
call the manufacturer.

office xp width 98, then xp pro?

Posted: 07 Oct 2004 07:23 PM PDT

Thanks David for you prompt reply. It is a full version, not an upgrade, and
I bought it from the college bookstore, at a special educational price; big
discount, no documentation, just 3 sealed CDs.

From reading some other threads here, I see it is permitted to put office on
one desktop computer, and also on a laptop, so long as it is mine also, and
to be used when I am away from the desktop one. So that is two activations
allowed.

If I install it on this older desktop and a laptop, and eventually buy a
replacement desktop, that would require three activations. Will MS give the
three activations in such a situatiion?

You did not say how you installed WinXp if you did an upgrade then you
should have done a check to see what hardware and software should have been
removed before an upgrade
What you probably should have done was remove the printer drivers before an
upgrade then did the upgrade
A 5150 should have XP drivers they should be on the disk that came with the
printer
Check with HP for a uninstalled which may remove all the software
If there isn't one then uninstall XP going back to your original OS
then remove the drivers and upgrade again

How to get rid of CE and CY fonts?

Posted: 01 Feb 2008 06:26 PM PST

The problem is that these fonts don't appear in Font Book. Nor can I find any font files anywhere with names like "Geneva CE" and "Monaco CY."

For example, the regular Geneva font is installed by Mac OSX inside VolumeName/System/Library/Fonts. When Office 2008 is installed, the various Central European and Cyrillic fonts, including Geneva CE, magically begin to appear ONLY within the Office apps font menus. They are not available to other apps on the same computer.

Finally, the CE and CY fonts are not installed by Office with all the other specific Office fonts in
VolumeName/Library/Fonts/Microsoft (my Font Book preference is not to install any fonts in my user Library folder).

Question about what "Home" means in the Home and Student Edition

Posted: 01 Feb 2008 04:01 PM PST

Hello Diane

Thank you very much for your quick reply. That is really good news.

No, we would not be using the software in a business setting, just using at home for both work and home things; mostly home.

I guess that you my wife's situation is slightly different from mine. She has a kind of "home office" (meaning she works from home sometimes, but mostly away from home) although again, I would think the majority of her email / word usage is home.

I guess that this is still within the confines of the "Home and Student" licence?

Thanks again

-Yes, a number of times. but it seems the serial number changes to a product ID number, and yes, those are different.

I have never heard of this message popping-up when Office wasn't
actually in use on another computer,

-i have three different serial #s for three computers. plus, i have shut the others off and it still happens.

Fpr this one, I would make sure Office is really perfectly up to date,

Will people be able to open my files: 2008?

Posted: 31 Jan 2008 04:54 PM PST

Yes.

But it will be due to errors in the computer at their end, not yours :-)

The trick is DON'T TELL THEM IT CAME FROM A MAC!!

If you tell them, they will do "something different" and get problems. If
you don't tell them, it will just work :-)

Make sure you add the extension to the file name: that is a "last resort"
for the operating system at the other end, that usually enables the computer
at the other end to figure out what to do, no matter how badly configured it
is.

And don't send .docx files to people for about a year, unless they send them
to you. Many people have not applied the updates needed to handle .docx
files yet. Until they do, send the old format unless you know they can
handle them.

Cheers

OK. The good news is that we can fix both problems. First, check the
registry and verify that the following key exists on the Exchange Server:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EXIFS\Param eters\DriveLetter

If this key does not exist recreate it (and leave its value data blank).

Then, restart the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service and the World
Wide Web Publishing service for the change to take effect. When then System
Attendant service is restarted, all services that depend on the System
Attendant service, including the Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks and the
Microsoft Exchange Information Store services, will also be restarted.

This should resolve the error you reported below, as well as the issue
identified by ExBPA.

If this key does exist, what does it have for its value data?

As an aside, the updated and correct instructions can be found at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/Exchange/ExBPA/c97cbb52-dc3e-4765-b9d2-49fa42106515.mspx.

If you could, please post back here with your results.

Trying to test 5.5 migration to 2003 in a LAB Environment - HELP!

The only way I have been able to do this in the past is, in my test domain
create a DC that exist in my real domain. If possible do an offline backup

domain. Unplug your test domain from your network. Rename the box you
copied your exchange data to the same name of you actually exchange server.
Install exchange 5.5 on the renamed box and use the same service account.
Then do a simple restore from the data. This will give you a copy of your
real data in your test domain, with the same SID and everything.

Hope this help.

showing in 5.5 Admin program and ESM, but when tried to view properties in
5.5 said can't, no replica. ESM brought up properties, but replicas tab had
nothing listed (not unexpected).

KB search on event 5 led to 265397 which regards duplicate folders on E2K.
265397 says stop Event Service if running, delete duplicate folders (rename
one of them first) using ESM, then restart Event Service. Event Service was
not running on our E2K3 server, so just deleted the orphaned eventsconfig
folder from ESM. Going on your statement can use same procedure on 5.5 for
orphaned as well as duplicates, assumed could apply to E2K as well.

Interestingly, yesterday exactly once we got event 1025 with error EcUpdate
0x8004010f on the E2K3 server. Everything was running fine and no other
errors. Not much available on that hex error. I called MS PSS and the tech
said db not corrupted, no need to restore from backup or run eseutil, just
maybe run isinteg fix with alltests (have not done that yet). I'm now
wondering if the error was because of the orphaned folder.

Thanks,
Joan

Not the typical message stuck in outbox issue

Posted: 20 Dec 2004 11:43 AM PST

nope. Absolutely nothing happens, it's like the action was ignored or
couldn't return an error message when using OWA. We are going to bounce the
Exchange services tonight during an appropriate time to see if that will
release the messages.

It is definately not client based as it happens on any PC, OWA and even POP.
(which was really impressive) Which leads me to believe it is mailbox
specific.

Using exchange 2003 as a pop3 server for customers

rich wrote:

Pop 3 is another conduit that is installed by default to permit access
to the same mailbox that you would access with std outlook. You can
make sure the microsoft exchange pop 3 service is running and telnet to
the servers ip address port 110 to see this. At this point, you can
issue raw pop commands to test. Exchange can talk http via owa, imap
(to outlook express, etc), pop3 (to outlook express, etc) or rpc (to the
std outlook client). As far as what pop3 ip address to point on, that
would be the address of exchange, your exchange front end server or the
ip address (if nat is used that is directed to the server). The smtp
address would be the same unless you implemented a seperate smtp
solution. Now with smtp, you are going to have to permit relay. You
can do this based on authentication or their ip addresses. The ip
address method would be best if you know the addresses. If not, you
will need to do authenticated relay. Be aware that the credentials like
pop3 are in clear text unprotected unless you use secure smtp.

I'm not trying to sound rude either, but you are asking how to set up a
pop 3 server. The answer to this specific question is that it is done
by default. At most, you will have to change the service to automatic
and start it. I think the problem is that you want detailed
instructions on how to set your exchange server up to look like your
ISP's linux sendmail/qpopper solution. Unfortunately, I don't have this
documention pre canned.

As you set up this solution and you have more specific issues with smtp
relay or more specific issues with pop please post those as well.
Please note that Exchange is very expensive as a pop3/smtp relay
solution. There are free solutions out there that will get you this
without having to be several dollars per mailbox.

Dead wrong. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/support/search.asp to

Mark,
Can you clarify, please. Your response was in conflict with itself. If I
interpert your response correctly, he will not see his own GAL. If he wanted
to see his own GAL, is there a way to accomplish that ? Thanks Derek

LegacyExchangeDN

This attribute is most used in a mixed environment with Exchange 5.5. There
is no need for us to modify it manually in the migration project and this
attempt may cause some problem on Exchange server. Exchange will update the
attribute automatically if wants to use it in future. So my suggestion is
just leave it there and go on to finish your migration project.

If you have any problems or concern in future, please feel free to post
here. It is always our pleasure to be of assistance.]

Um - looks like that ended up being uncompiled code. Probably not the best

Once you have the baseDN (the long string that you saw in the previous
post), you can use LDIFDE to export that information to a text file.

You will have to install the service pack, I'm afraid. Some of the OWA .asp
files need replacing before they will work at all.

Paul, all is up to date. Do not use Solarwinds Professional. The problem
has been duplicated on any of the workstations and accounts that I have tried
so I am fairly sure it is something going on with the server side.

Any other suggestions out there?

Microsoft Word - word13 macro design

Microsoft Word - word13 macro design

word13 macro design

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 04:34 AM PDT

I have a WORD 2013 *.dotx form file to be filled in.

One of the lines has a TEXT CONTENT CONTROL with a UNIQUE STYLE (I'm using the value of this as part of the header from page two onwards)

I would like to write

  1. an AutoOPEN macro which asks for INPUT into this TEXT CONTENT CONTROL indetifiable by the UNIQUE STYLE
  2. use the (INPUT)=TEXT CONTENT CONTROL as filename and ask user to select directory where to save and then save the file
  3. after completing all other sections of the form - click a 'button' on the form which runs a macro to:
  • save the file
  • create a Pdf file with the same filename - save it to directory selected by user
  • open outlook with new mail with the Pdf file as attachment - user to input receipient's email addresses

Is this possible within Word 2013 - does anyone have a sample macro to use (modify)?

THANKS

the fonts are too close to each other in word, why is that?

Why are the letters so close to each other in that example.

I need to have it fixed. The top one is office 2013 and the lower one is office 2007.

Word VBA to delete all section breaks

Does anybody have the code for that?

Mail Merge - If statement - Date Issue - Can't get the a field with a date to show on the Mail Merge form

Posted: 10 Jul 2013 07:23 PM PDT

Another Mail Merge Question.  I'm creating an If formula which will either create a line on a form if the field is blank or show the actual content from the data field, which in the case, happens to be a date (MM/dd/yyyy).  The data is pulled from a database into Excel and the column has mostly blank fields, but a few with an actual date.  Because this is a marriage date field, there won't always be date.

Anyways, I setup the formula, and for the records with a blank field, I get the line.  However, for the fields with a date, nothing appears.  I read somewhere that Mail Merge doesn't work if the field columns with dates also have blank cells.

Here's the formula I'm using:   {if{ Mergefield "fieldname"} = "" "_________"{ Mergefiled "fieldname"}} .

I also tried adding \*@ "MM/dd/yyyy" after the final fieldname, but that didn't do anything either.

For formula works in other sections of the form where the data field is just the YEAR.  Maybe because it's just 4 digits, it's actually considered text instead of a number or date.

Using both Word 2010 and Word 2013

Posted: 10 Jul 2013 05:18 PM PDT

Hello,
I currently have full installations of both Office 2010 Professional Plus and Office 2013 Professional installed on my laptop computer. I can run both versions of any Office program congruently, with the exceptions of Word and Outlook. While I understand the conflict between Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013, I was wondering if there is any way to get Word 2010 and 2013 to launch without the previous instance being cancelled out with the latest one. Basically, whenever I try to switch between the two Word versions I receive a pop-up stating that Office 20xx is configuring for setup. Again, this only happens for Word. I can use Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Onenote, etc without need for Office to re-configure. I am not running either version of Office in click2run. They are both full installs. Thanks in advance for any info

Visual line on every line in between text and tables

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 09:14 AM PDT

When converting a 2010 Word file to 2013, there is a visual line on every line in between text and tables in Print Layout and I can't get rid of it, very distracting. Seems like it has to do with new layout options, but is not new gridlines feature.

Word 2013 - 'The directory name is not valid' error

Posted: 06 Jul 2013 01:36 AM PDT

I recently installed office 365 home premium, and have been running word. i transferred all my schoolwork from a usb flash drive to skydrive so i wouldn't have to use the flash drive. i found that it was a bit slow, so i saved a copy of the work onto the hard drive. After this i renamed both the hard drive and the folder my work was in to a better suiting name. i opened word to continue my document. using 'open other documents', i located my work on the hard drive and attempted to open it. i receive the error message 'the directory name is not valid (C:/.../English - THE BRANDON SECRET F...)'
