[discuss] Anyone running OOo 2.0.2 on Gnome?

Posted: 30 Mar 2006 01:59 AM PST

I used alien to convert the .rpm packages to *tgz* not Deb. I extracted
them and put the result in the /opt/ directory. I prefer this because I
don't want to mix my Debian system with external RPMs. I prefer to keep
my base system following the Debian release and put anything from
outside in the /opt/ directory. So I have a clean separation between
what comes with my distribution and what I added separately.

Cheers,
Daniel.

Hi

Did you manage to get .deb packages for OOo 2.0.2. If so where? If not,
what was the alien command that you used to convert the rpm packages to
..deb?

Probably more relevant to Linux but since most Linux distros also
include OOo its indirectly good for OOo too, certainly while MSO doesn't
run on Linux. If Vista does require a gig of RAM as I have heard, I
can't see everyone rushing off to buy new computers especially if the
ones they have do the job. If many do trash their 256 Mb machines its
going to precipitate a lot of hardware that will run Linux well so that
too could actually be good for increasing Linux adoption. I'd be
surprised if there is much immediate impact. Wait a year and then see
what begins to happen. Talking 2008 or 9. By this time more key
infrastructural apps will have migrated to Linux and some governments
will be insisting on Open Standards which again adds to the momentum. By
2010-12 we might be sing some large shifts. other factors include things
like ODF. Its complex, no one thing is going to change things massively,
more likely combinations building up inexorable pressure.

Some will some won't. We have already made ground against MSO and we
will keep doing so particularly if you look at the global picture, not
just the wealthy nations that have more money than common sense.

If you use Keynote alot, you may want to look at:

WikidPad: http://www.jhorman.org/wikidPad/
or
FreeMind: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freemind/

Each of them has their benefits and drawbacks, neither one integrates,
but I like them both better than KeyNote. One lets you use a Wiki
right on your desktop, and the other allows for very flexible handling
of hierarchial data.

Indeed some script.xlb and dialog.xlb files (in /user/basic/) had

With the installation of a newer OOO those files where automatically

automatically and after removing the older installation (and paths) the
error message came up.

As said: it's easy to change the files.

Microsoft Word - Word UserForms: Saving .addItem answers in an Array

Word UserForms: Saving .addItem answers in an Array

Posted: 11 Dec 2012 10:48 AM PST

I have a number of UserForms where I have to use .addItem to populate comboboxes.

In some cases, I just create the .addItem entries manually in the Initialize stage.  In some other cases, I have Word VBA grab data from a local Access database.

In either case, this process can take a very long time, up to a minute.  It works, but it takes way too long.

It would seem to save time if I could save, on first use, the .addItems items in an array for the entire Word session.  While I use VBA quite a bit, I have no experience with arrays (and since some of the .addItem's have 2 or more columns, I'd need a multi-dimensional array).

How could I do that?

TIA

How to make table margins obey margin settings?

Posted: 10 Dec 2012 03:37 PM PST

Hello:

When you set page margins, and add a table to a page, you can drag the table edges outside the set page margins without "punishment" :-). How would you make the table edges obey the page margins? And/or where can you see the margin values for the edges of a table?

Sorry if this is simplistic, but I actually have never seen answers to the above questions, although I have only used 2010 for a while.

I cannot get the field code "style ref" to display the correct text in the last few pages of the document. All other pages work correctly. Please help.

Posted: 10 Dec 2012 07:32 AM PST

Hi,

I am working on a 15 page document.  This document uses a template that was created by our company.  In the document there is a field code at the top of every page "Style Ref" so that the title appears on the top of every page.  The field code reads {style ref "heading 3"}.  This works on every page except for the last two pages where it reads different text.  I don't know how this was corrupted.  I have tried to delete the last few pages and re-do everything.  I have locked down the field code so that it doesn't update but I need to correct this problem because after we finalize this we will re-use it to create several more documents that only replace a few elements of the original.

I do not know that much about field codes except for what I have learned on this document so please point me in the right direction.  We are using word 2007.

Thanks in advance

Global templates...deleting

Posted: 09 Dec 2012 07:51 AM PST

I downloaded an office template for ADA and now everytime I go to close office I have to go through several steps to close because it wants to make changes to the global template. I have deleted most files and even the word files associated with it. It still does it. It stopped for about 12 hours but now it is back. How do I get rid of this as it is very irratating to say the least?

Office 2003 - Unable to Save!

Posted: 08 Dec 2012 12:53 PM PST

Office 2003 will not work on Windows 7.  Have download Office 2003 and can enter information but am able to save anything.  I keep getting Error Messages "Basic Environment".  After closing this out several times and hitting save again, it will ask me if I want to save changes.  I say "Yes" but it doesn't close.  If I close that out with the "X" in the corner, my file still hasn't saved.  Can anyone help me with this?

Update table cross reference text to an updated table number

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 01:39 PM PST

Within my document I will refer to a table by writing "(see Table 12)". If I subsequently change the table location or add another table such that the table number would change as I updated the Table field, is there a way for the text value of the table, e.g., Table "12" to be updated to the new table number automatically?

thank you.

Process stops at request for Product key number.  All inquiries are for purchased download.  Consequently, there does not appear to be a number

for the free installation.  Where is this number for the free installation?

Following a cable company speed upgrade, my Word program in Mic.Works Suite 2006 pkg. rec'd with my Dell computer no longer loads.  Flashes briefly, then disappears.  All of my documents are in Word and none will open, not even my Christmas card list!  I have all disks.  Can you help a not-too-technical Grandma??

Can I remove unwanted Themes in Word 2010

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 03:17 AM PST

In the Page Layout tab, the first button is THEMES.   I have created my own Theme, which has its own title, 'Custom' and I only want this theme to show.  There are about 40 built-in Themes, I want to either remove them or just not show them, does anyone know if this can be done.  I thank you in hoplefullness.

Word wont save documents I have created in .doc or docx format

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 07:38 AM PST

Word does not save the documents I have produced as .doc or .docx.  When viewing these saved files in windows explorer it does not have the Word icon that usually appears next to the file name, just an icon that looks like it has a sheet of writing on it and when you click on the file the message "To open this file windows needs to know what programme created it" appeares and I have to select open with Word. Question "How do I get Word to save it's own documents"

Page numbers aren't updating

I have a document that contains a table of contents, header, and page numbers. Currently it is at 10 pages, and when I am on the 10th page, the numbering shows "Page 10 of 10". When I type/Ctrl+Enter to a new page, it shows "Page 11 of 10". There is a page after page 10 that is not part of the numbering, however (section break, I believe), so could that be the problem? Is there a way to fix this?

Static row heights in Word Tables

How to know number of lines in a selected text, not part of a table.

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 02:31 AM PST

Is there some way of finding starting line number and ending line number of a selection that is not in a table, or at least the number of lines in that selection.
I used Selection.Information(wdFirstCharacterLineNumber) to get the starting line number, but how to get the ending line number?
Even if we can find the number of lines selected, I can add it to the starting line number to get the ending line number.
I can't use Selection.Information(wdEndOfRangeRowNumber) as it works only for tables (it seems).

Works DB not showing many records for a mailmerge. Why?

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 12:43 PM PST

sorry guys - I'm near end of my tether . . I'm trying to do my annual/Christmas address labels and it's seldom troublefree. This year, my underlying data source, a Works database, is showing only a small portion of my 170 records. I've not had this problem before so I'm wondering whether it might be due, as administrator, to recently setting up a password/keeping files 'private' or perhaps because not all records have data in all fields or my .wdb file is corrupt. Any ideas will be appreciated.  I am using XP and preferably Word 2005.

Client unable to edit excel spreadsheet object

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 11:18 AM PST

Hello,

I've been asked to make a word document that includes an excel spreadsheet object for a client, but he's having issues trying to edit the object.

I've successfully managed to create the document including the object, and I'm able to edit it myself perfectly fine. But after I sent it over to the client he says he's unable to do so himself, saying he gets a message saying he doesn't have excel installed (He does have excel installed).

The error code is the following:

"The program used to create this object is Excel.  That program is not installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program that can open the object."

I've come to understand that it's a problem on his side because of the following:
  1. I've asked him to shut down all office programs he was using
  2. I then asked him to open up WORD
  3. I then asked him to create an excel spreadsheet object
  4. I asked him if he was able to edit this object, to which he replied he was able to.
  5. I then asked him to save the document, and exit word completely.
  6. I then asked him to start up word again, and load up the document to see if he was then able to edit the object, to which he replied he was not able anymore.
Would anyone know why this could be happening and possibly a way to fix this for him?

Kind regards and thanks in advanced,

Michael.

Using MS Word 2007 to print Christmas card labels. Made the Excel Spreadsheet last year and printed labels just fine. Follow the same process this year and cannot get anything to print.

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 08:34 AM PST

I know the correct spreadsheet is in there because if I go to Edit Recipient List, the correct ones are there. So I make the final step, click "Merge and Finish", and then ask it to print. Only get blank sheets and it thinks each address is a separate page so it tries to pring 30 blank pages.

Formating Table Location in a Numbered List

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 07:47 AM PST

I would like to insert a table after the 4th item in a numbered list and have the 5th item in the numbered list appear after the table in a uniform looking way (text in the numbered items equidistant from the table at the top and bottom).  How can I format the table/list to achieve this?

Delete Caption Label off of List

Okay, I Boo-boo'ed. I created a new caption label without thinking and it makes a caption like "Step: 1" instead of "Step 1:" Now I would like to get the incorrect version off the list because it bugs me to see it there. Is there any way to delete it?

Avery Templates/Word 2007

problem with text box converting word 2007 to pdf

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 12:24 PM PST

I converted a document from Word 2007 using Adobe Acrobat 9. The document converts but when I look at one of the pages that had 2 pictures on it, only one picture remains on that page.  That particular page has 2 pictures within one text box.

I went back to Word 2003 using Adobe Acrobat 9 and converted the document to pdf from Word 2003 and the document converts correctly with the 2 pictures on the page.

Is 2007 textbox NOT compatible with Word 2003 textbox?

I know a solution probable would be to just put the picture in two separate text boxes but that is not the answer to my question. If I had not double check the pdf file, I never would have known that this was an issue converting text boxes and my document would have gone out minus one picture. Everything else convertted fine.

Thank you for any response.

How do I update cross references in footnotes?

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 09:40 AM PST

Hello,

I have several footnotes in Word that include cross-references to other chapters (numbered items). I know that usually I have to right click on cross references to update them, but this doesn't seem to work in footnotes? When I right click it just doesn't show "update field" as it does when i right click on cross-references in normal test.

Does anyone have a solution to this Problem?

Thanks, Michael
