Windows 98 + Windows XP + Ubuntu Linux Posted: 30 Aug 2005 10:24 AM PDT Impro Fane wrote: Which is correct, does this choice allow you to choose either Windows 98 and Windows XP? Are you saying from the Windows bootloader you cannot boot Windows 98? OK, but it will take some work... GRUB needs to be reinstalled and both Windows 98 and Windows XP needs to be (re)installed on primary partions (both need to be hidden from the other). This is possible but will require lots of additional work. Windows (both Windows 98 and Windows XP) uses it's own bootloader and the switches needed are not possible from the GRUB bootloader. howto for how to install windows xp partition on a disk already with a rh 9 partition Posted: 29 Aug 2005 02:50 AM PDT On Tue, 30 Aug 2005 12:03:13 UTC, "Nico Kadel-Garcia" <net> wrote: Safest route is to create a separate partition for /boot as well as a Grub boot-floppy, and the WinXP partition. The /boot partition can be quite small. It will only hold the boot images for any linux upgrades. You might also create a /data partition and symlink /home to /data/home. Then the other linux partitions can be easily upgraded. WinXP will over-write the MBR on installation. The Grub boot-floppy will allow you to re-write the MBR using install. And create a boot entry in menu.lst (grub.conf) for Windows for dual booting. Note that you can re-create a grub boot-floppy from within grub, so make some notes and store them in the /boot directory. But if your laptop doesn't have a floppy it's a little more difficult but you can do the same thing with a CD. Geoff |

So, I send a HTTP://GET request to your site. How does it get there? Have you paid the ISP to split the packets for load balancing? Or have you made arrangements with bt.com and several other ISPs to all have a route directly to this box with the five NICs. How do the upstream routers know to send the packets where to reach your system? Going the other way, where one inbound line triggers responses from three or four outbound addresses, how is my computer supposed to know that packets from foo.bar.btcentralplus.com are related to a request I sent to baz.bumble.btcentralplus.com. You are talking big bux there. That 'pipe' running down the street does not have infinite bandwidth, no matter what the advertisements say. You can do bonding and load balancing, but that takes the cooperation from (read that as "you have to pay") your upstream. Old guy |

In an early iteration, I managed to get all 3 controllers working with the on-board VIA controller in the middle {SiI680,VP_IDE,HPT370} I installed Gentoo and Grub on a mirrored (dmraid) pair on the HPT370.
