[discuss] OpenOffice Writer - Page Numbering issue Posted: 15 Oct 2007 11:40 AM PDT ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sam Eubanks" <com> To: <org> Sent: Friday, October 12, 2007 2:30 PM Subject: [discuss] OpenOffice Writer - Page Numbering issue For discussion/action: I think OpenOffice Writer needs a much better page numbering function. It would be much better if there was an easier way to edit the page numbers and global page numbers in the OpenOffice Writer. Presently, it's hard to set page numbers up unless you want to go nuts editing page footers, etc. There really ought to be a better user-friendly option in the OpenOffice Writer to set, edit and remove page numbers easily for the entire document. Yes, presently you can edit the footer on a specific page, but it doesn't work for the entire document. I'm hoping that some gifted programmer out there can fix this problem, I think it wouldn't be too difficult. [discuss] OpenOffice and Sharepoint Posted: 09 Oct 2007 12:48 PM PDT --=_alternative 000DD79F85257376_= Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Consider some other alternatives to sharepoint. Lotus has team rooms and repositories that are acessible by both Windows and Linux clients. You can use CVS or Subversion, these are also commonly used repositories. There are GUI interfaces such as Tortoise. Microsoft is attempting to use Sharepointe to protect their monopoly. CVS and Subversion provide the ability to save change-by-change revisions, to merge revisions, and to manager the history efficiently. Since these repositories can also be secured using LDAP, access control can be very tightly constricted and controlled. Try to determine the real goal. What are the top 5 features they want from Sharepoint? Then look at how OSS applications can meet those same goals. Since OSS implementations can support both Windows AND Linux, make the case for the OSS alternatives. We will be implementing Microsoft SharePoint over the next several months. I personally love Open Office but unfortunately it appears that there is no connector so that Open Office will integrate with SharePoint the same way that Office 2003 and Office 2007 integrate with SharePoint. This is a bit frightening because SharePoint is rapidly expanding in many enterprise environments such as ours. Anyway, I wanted to pass along the suggestion that the someone look into a SharePoint connector much the same way that the Linux Evolution e-mail client came up with an Exchange connector. That's a different situation but the same concept is the same. Thanks again for your wonderful product. At home it is the only office suite that I use but I'm afraid that I'm getting wedged out from using it at work since there is an almost seamless integration between Office and Sharepoint now.
