Exchange 2003 OWA and recieving forwarded contacts

Posted: 21 Sep 2005 12:52 PM PDT

Oh yeah...I am aware of that, but i am not sure I believe that in this case.
in OWA, when you create a new contact you use the same form on OWA that this
attachment opened in. Its not that OWA needs some work around to open it up,
it knows what it is and opens it in the correct form. It goes that far, why
just stop there. Your remark would indicate that a user is unable to create
contacts in OWA.

Exchange 2003 on Server 2003

Thanks for your recommendation. If I had found a specific newsgroup for
what I wanted, I would have used just that one. Since I didn't...

Exchange 2003 failed restore

Agree with Ed the DR paper from MS is excellent. From what you describe it
sounds as though you have the transaction files in the wrong place or mixed
with transaction logs from other servers.

This email was sent by Me on Behalf of You....

In news:%23Y$phx.gbl,
Thief_ <com> typed:

Send on Behalf does that. You can set that (and users can set that) in
Outlook.
Send As, does what you're describing now - Joe sends mail that looks like it
came from Mary. And if Send As rights are set on the server itself (you
can't set this in Outlook) it will override the 'send on behalf of' rights
you set in Outlook.

Check for the presence of send as rights....via users or groups - in ADUC.

KB 888619 contains old versions of exchange files

Posted: 20 Sep 2005 08:03 PM PDT

Scott

I'm slightly confused by your response. you state that the files that have
changed are different. When I look I find two files listed in both articles
(store.exe and mdbmsg.dll). There isn't a list of files changed and a list of
files touched.

In short however you state I can install the patch over the one I already
have installed, and the newer files will not be overwritten. Meaning that the
newer version contains any fixes (or touches?) of the earlier versions.

What do you mean by "If people are doing the same thing on the back-end as
they do on the front-end, then the patch can easily go on both."? The hot fix
appears to be a patch for OWA. Are the files used by the backend when using
OWA on a front-end to access your mailbox? "Doing the same thing"?? please
explain ...

Adding E2k3 to replace old E2k3

Posted: 20 Sep 2005 07:11 PM PDT

Assuming the name isn't too huge, can deal with that.
Changing the ip to old server ip would make life easier for me because I
have outside pointing inside with that address. Also, I have many sites in my
domain. We are spread all over. Forest prep could take awhile.
So basically, I am just building a W2k3 server loading E2k3, and in the
setup does it ask if I want to join an exchange org? I can't remember.
Last, when I do mailbox move, space will be a concern if data will be added
to the OS disk. If it is the raid 5 set where info store is no problem. I
just don't know which it is?

Allowing users to modify distribution lists

Certainly, you can use Delegation wizard in AD Users & Computers to delegate
permissions to change particular user attributes to one user (or Security
Group, just make user member of that group, less hassle when the user leaves
and someone else takes his/her place), and then create a custom MMC to only
include the OUs/Containers that have users.

For Exchange 2000, Enterprise Edition is required for the front-end.
Standard Edition is supported for the back-end, but you will be limited to a
single 16GB maximum mailbox store.

How to send a Welcome mail & letting users change password through

Posted: 19 Sep 2005 05:19 AM PDT

There is a mechanism in Outlook 2003 to deliver a welcome mail when Outlook
is installed, but I agree that there is no standard way to do this in
Exchange.

Dear Sir,

When external users have typed messages in Thai and sent using yahoo mail,
the exchange users cannot read them which the characters are suspicious. I
asked other people for this problem they found the same.

Thank you for your kindly help

Free Exchange based web mail?

Yes, but do you know of any provider of free web based e-mail that uses
Exchange (or maybe Open eXchange or whatever it is called) for it? For
example, a lot of the smaller players use Outblaze. Do you anywhere I
can get free e-mail account where they use Exchange as the server?

Don't worry about that. As soon as I find an Exchange-based e-mail
service that supports Outlook's addressbook syncing/sharing I can work
out this myself.

p7s attachements

The ".p7s" file extention is the PKCS #7 signature file. The MIME type
for a file of this sort should be one of these:

application/pkcs7-signature
application/x-pkcs7-signature
application/keychain_access

Well, that may be understandable. If the MIME Content-type is
different to the ones above the client should be able to work with the
attachment, but Outlook (being an application) may have different
ideas about that.

So it's not an Exchange problem, but an Outlook problem.

Yes, that's correct. But when you look at the MIME types for the
different body parts, what are the "Content-type" values for the
different ".p7s" attachments?

Sure. Have the chose a different extension for the attachment. They're
certainly free to use anything they like (they could even use .exe or
..com, but that would probably be an even worse choice!), but when they
do so they should be careful to select something without a widely
accepted meaning that differs from the intended purpose of the file.

SBS 2K3 Exchange & Vmail

Perhaps you ought to have your Exchange server hosted by somebody on the
other side of your unreliable T1 line, or perhaps you ought to have a backup
network link. Commercial DSL is pretty cheap in most places. I think
either of those suggestions is far less kludgy than your line of thinking.

user name resolution

Posted: 16 Sep 2005 04:58 AM PDT

The given name does have all three attributes checked within the schema.
After further test I have checked our old 2k enviroment and using 'check
names' when using only the first name does return a list of all relevant
people within the gal but our new 2003 does not. For example If i wrote
'richard' in the to field then hit check names our old (2k) exch would
return about 10 names. Some would be richard smith, richard cooke, richard
jones others would be debbie richardson alex richards etc etc. The new 2k3
exch would simply show debbie richardson alex richards etc etc. Does this
shed any more light on the issue?

Thanks in advance

Craig

Restoring a Storage Group after of remove a server

Posted: 15 Sep 2005 05:19 AM PDT

That's right, but when you have to restore a storage group of removed server,
and you use the REcovery Storage Group, you have to specify the same storage
group. Even, after restore restore the storage and you use Exmerge to restore
a mailbox, it doesn't work if the user mailbox is not move to the original
storage.

Thanks
