When you try to open a word file with word 2010, you get this message

(C:)users\sister\...\LiturgyL\AUG1813.DOT

Also, when you try to open the file with windows, a window opens with: (Enter your product key) for office 2007 appears.  The key for office 2010 is here but not for 2007.

When you try to open some files other than word, you get:

You don't have permission to open this file.

contact the new owner or an administrator to obtain permission.

They tell me there is no administrator or new owner.

Faulty fault finding

I perpetually find myself fighting the frown that wants to cross my brow when the grammar correction app tells me my sentence structure is incorrect. When is the system going to hire people who have actually studied English grammar?

I'm a poet and a writer. I perpetually find myself suppressing the frown which creeps across my brow, when your "grammar correction" app tells me my sentence structure is incorrect. When is the system going to hire people who have actually studied English grammar?

Help with pre-printed letterhead paper

Posted: 10 Aug 2013 09:33 AM PDT

Dear Community members, I need help with pre-printed letterhead paper.

I have a letterhead paper, which needs a 2 ½-inch top margin and 1 ½-bottom margin.  For the second and so forth pages, I need a 1-inch margin all over.

How can I set that in Word 2013?

Your help is very much appreciated.

Paste graphics

Posted: 10 Aug 2013 08:29 AM PDT

Vista - when I paste from the clipboard to Word (2007) the text is fine, but the grahics don't transfer. instead there is a large empty box where the graphics should be. ( No red X) Sometimes there is a small representation of the graphic with a jxx suffix.

when my friend does this on a W7 computer it transfers correctly.

My goal is to use mail merge to forward weather maps and NOAA comentary to about 150 people

Any suggestions appreciated

office 365 Word won't let me type into a new document

Posted: 10 Aug 2013 02:07 AM PDT

I've had Office 365 for a while now and all was good.

However for the last four weeks, or so, I have not been able to type into a new Word document. If I try to the pc just pings at me and refuses to type. No other office programme is doing this. If I open an old document, or save a new document before typing, close it then open it I can type into it.

I have Win 8 and have only installed updates from windows and new video drivers since the problem began.

I have deleted the normal template and let it recreate one on opening, but the problem still exists.

Any suggestions?

Wrong language in Word

Posted: 10 Aug 2013 01:28 AM PDT

When ever I spell check a Word document particularly one started from my templates it uses the USA Spell checker!  I have set the option in Word to be using UK English.  I have even set Windows to be UK English.  Why it is still going to US English for Spell check I can't understand.  I also told it NOT to determine the language.  Trusting it to use UK English as I set in the options.  I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and Word 2010 professional.  I have looked at answers on the Internet and tried some of the changes but nothing seems to stop my documents going to US English rather than UK.  Can any one let me know how to really stop this?  Thanks.

date format

Posted: 10 Aug 2013 12:13 AM PDT

I am working in Word 2007 compatibility mode. I want the print date of a document to appear in the following format:

nth day of month year

The current code I have is { DATE \@ "d" \*Ordinal } day of { DATE \@ "MMMM yyyy"} which displays as 10th day of August 2013

I would like the th to appear in superscript and I would like the date to be the print date not the current date.  What should the code be in order to do that?

I should note that this is going into a template and I want merged documents based on this template to follow the same rule.
Thanks.

Asterisk followed by numbers in footnotes

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 11:42 PM PDT

In a journal I'm editing the title of the article is footnoted with an asterisk and the footnote gives brief biographical details of the author. The next footnote starts with number 1 and the numbers are consecutive after that. Unfortunately some of the original Word versions of the articles start with number one after the title instead of an asterisk.

Is there an easy way to change that number one to an asterisk and have the footnote numbers starting at one after that? The only way I've found to do it is to put a continuous section break after the title and footnote 1 and using References, Footnotes, Number Format change the footnote 1 after the title to an asterisk and hit Restart each section. Then I go into the next section and select Number format 1,2,3.

Is there an easier way?

How can one save versions of a document in Word 13?

I am trying to locate the option that allows documents to be saved in versions- as in earlier releases of Word. Has this been removed from word 13?

No response for Word 2007

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 04:15 PM PDT

Hi,

I am using Window 7, 64-bit and last couple of weeks ago I did a Window Update. As a result, my Microsoft Word 2007 acted funny, as follows:

a) when I open a file, it will be no response for 1 min
b) When I move page down, it will no response
c) when I start to type, it will no response for a while and sometimes I could type but letter did not show up immediately.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you.

Word macros don't work when ugraded to 2010

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 03:38 PM PDT

I have numerous Word documents with a button on the bottom of each one that has a macro attached to it that opens an email addressed to an individual with certain parts of the email already filled out for the user.  All they have to do is click to send the email.

After upgrading from XP to 2010, none of the macros work.  I tried changing the settings to "Enable all macros" and "Trust access to the VBA Project Object Model", but the macros still do not work.  As a matter of fact, they don't even appear to still be there.

When I open the documents, they open in compatibility mode and then I tried clicking on "Convert", which seems like it should restore the macros, but it doesn't.

Can anyone offer suggestions, please?

Is there any tool to organize fonts by language in Office

Posted: 09 Aug 2013 04:20 AM PDT

I'm trying to group fonts by languages when I'm using MS WORD so I won't have to scroll all the way down when I'm changing a font to a non-English language.

For example, is there a way to "pin" favorite fonts to make the appear at the top of the font list?

Thanks
