Customization with SDK : add related form

Posted: 30 Apr 2004 05:07 AM PDT

Hi

I would like to give the possibility to users to be able to duplicat
an opportunity since a first opportunity without having to recaptur
information
For it I added a button in the toolbar of the Opportunity form.
associated the url <servername> /SFA/opps/edit.aspx to this button
How can I do to simulate an " add related " and to take al
information but the id of the first form (I have already done th
mapping)

Thanks

Will new fields get upgraded?

Thanks Matt

So, I guess it is always better to build an external application and then
integrate it with CRM. This will minimize maintenance issues during
upgrades.

2 Remote User Connections

Posted: 29 Apr 2004 08:18 AM PDT

SFO requires that the laptop be a member of the Domain in order to be installed.
It also will not sync across the web.

They do not need email capabilities it would just be so

Thanks for your time.

Can not Create cases

Posted: 29 Apr 2004 07:24 AM PDT

I figured out the problem. It had to do with the current case value in the
system and case numbers that I had imported from another CRM installation.
I changed the current case value and that took care of the problem.

DC and CRM

Posted: 29 Apr 2004 06:56 AM PDT

It "can" work, but it also might not. If the DC config is relatively clean,
then you might be OK. However, there have been some issues with the SFO client
and replication in a single server (non-SBS) environment.

How can I take back a licence

Posted: 29 Apr 2004 06:06 AM PDT

Assuming you have the authority, go to Settings -->
Business Unit Settings --> Users.
Select the user, click on the Licenses tab, then Manage
Licenses. You can then highlight the license and remove it
from the Selected Licenses field.

How can I take back the licence? Does anyone know?

link our database schema to CRM

Posted: 29 Apr 2004 01:02 AM PDT

Yingwu,

If I understand you correctly, the information you need to track is basically
"child" tables that are tied to the Account or Contact. The following MSDN
article covers how to setup a new page within MSCRM that displays info from
another database. You can use this as a base for creating pages that maintain
the additional information you need.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dnmbscrm/html/mbs_crmapp_database.asp

You will obviously need to work out the PK/FK issues, but the concepts are
there. There are also several other articles there that will get you pointed in
the right direction.

Matt, thanks a lot for your reply.

Yes, I believe that it is better for us to covert our database schema
to CRM database schema. But we realized a problem that it is quite
hard for us to convert as we are selling software online which is
typically include refund and chargeback. We have such tables to track
refund and chargeback orders. However, there is no such information in
CRM tables.

It will be too difficult for us to change the CRM mapping system to
use our schema, and also it will be too difficult to maintain.

So how is your thinking/suggestion to deal with this refund/charge
back things?

Thanks for your input!

Insert other Table

not within the existing framework of the app. However, you could develop this
on your own and interate the logic into MSCRM. Refere to the SDK and MSDN
articles for some examples.

Please help - CRM client Installation asking for web URL

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 01:26 PM PDT

Raj

On the pc where you want to install the client you need to be log in as a user which exists on the Active Directory where the CRM server is a member of. The Username/Password have to be the same. The user also needs to have a licence assigned to him/her

Duplication of Production CRM Install to Test environment

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 11:50 AM PDT

I just got back from a 2 day SharePoint development class, and the
instructor recommended using Microsoft Virtual Machine for developing
applications on MS CRM, rather than devoting another Windows 2003 server for
a "test environment." Might this be an option for you?

Internal AND External Customer Service

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 10:24 AM PDT

We have strict security - most folks have user-level
privileges or team-shared which should cut down on the
confusion. Also, most of the communication b\w depts will
be in the form of tasks instead of emails. (i.e. Sales
needs contract amendment from legal - submits task to
Legal queue). We want a way to track\analyze internal
customers.

I'll let you know if I see an iceberg approaching.. ;)

Sales: Lead become Opportunity, then Account?

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 10:09 AM PDT

Thanks for your feedback, KB :)

I think you're right in stating that sales people have to create all three
accounts from a Lead, whether that Lead has actually bought something or
not. It makes more sense to me to escalate a Lead to an Opportunity, then
to an Account rather than do the latter two at the same time, but I guess
our sales staff will just have to use the program as is :(

Create new field???

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 10:05 AM PDT

Hank - Keep in mind when you add fields in MS-CRM that you cannot delete
them. Also, yes you can create fields with look-up values/drop-down list
fields. Create the field first and publish the customization from
deployment manager. Then customize the form itself within MS-CRM (System
Customization) to add the values for that item. Publish the form
customization. Then IISRESET on the web server. Should be it. At least
that is how I do it! brian

Jscript problem with CRM?

Since Upgrading To SBS 2003 Cannot Start CRM Security Service

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 08:45 AM PDT

I thought it was going to be a much easier process. The
biggest issue that I found was an error every time I
booted saying:
"The procedure entry point GetTextExtentPointI could not
be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL"

Turns out that the OLEDB32.DLL that I had was old and the
upgrade did not replace it and that caused services to
fail.

MS CRM still won't run because now it is telling me that I
am trying to log on with a bad user id but at least I am
closer.

Thanks for your response.

Demo on single laptop

I do this

single 2.4ghz laptop
1GB ram

4 virtualpc images
1 - domain controller in its own forest
2 - crm +sql server
3 - server 2000 running vs.net for development and client
4 - exchange server

when its all started up it is sluggish but not unusable. I have developed
crm custom code on this setup and believe me, if it was slow i would not use
it

MS CRM 1.2 - Sales for Outllok

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 07:09 AM PDT

I'm sure you can get it to work, but I don't know what you'd have to do to get
it to be successful. I'm pretty sure the problem has to do with the security
tied to the replication.

I know there have been many people who have posted problems about trying to get
it to work, but have not seen an answer yet. Having the workstation in the CRM
Domain is listed as a req for SFO.

Thanks, Matt, but... do you mean that users in an enterprise, that shares

Domain for CRM/SFO client to work?

What about if an user (let's say... within the DW2K domain) wants to install SFO
in his outlook? I mean, the installation process would complete successfully or
no? And, if so, the Outlook client will connect to the server without trouble?

Thanks in advance

Error when synchronizing in Outlook

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 06:29 AM PDT

Peter

Is your CRM server on Windows 2003? I had this same problem because my CRM was on Windows Server 2003 and my active directory was on 2000. If this is the case for you, you have to open an incident with Microsoft (mbs.microsoft.com) to get a hotfix for an updated authx.dll file

What would be a suggested methodology to resolve this kind of issues ? Ar
there settings in client PC registry that we can compare to server sid

how that could be a problem. I'll see what MS support offers and post back

ISV.config and teams

Posted: 27 Apr 2004 11:36 PM PDT

No this is not possible using standard CRM. There is no way to say only
user1 can see your addin etc.

However as CRM uses the Active Directory you could have your code ask the AD
if they are a member of a certain group and if they are run the code and if
not drop out.

Never tried it but I'm sure it is possible
