Windows Update keeps trying to install the same update

Posted: 15 May 2004 11:12 AM PDT

Even though Mark F. is right about this being the wrong group, I'll try to
help you out.
I had the same problem myself just a short while ago. After installing the
same patch at least 10 times I was really tired of it. The next time it
showed up I pressed "details" ant took a note of the exact name of the
update. I then chose "remind me later". In add/remove programs I uninstalled
the patch and booted the pc. Next time I was told to install the patch I
answered yes and I haven't seen this error again.

Hope this helps you.

How to configure Outlook 2003 to use RPC over HTTP

Posted: 15 May 2004 12:01 AM PDT

Hi Ruwan,

I'm going to try the steps that are mentioned in the first article, some of
these steps can be indeed a solution for my problem.

Thanks for the tip and I will post after my test if they work,

Using your ISP's smart host SMTP relay may help.

Good friggin luck. I have been dealing with this D@MN
thing for 3 weeks now. Here is the skinny. Reboot the PC
in safe mode. Remove the virus from
HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Run and
delete any entery that is RunService.

Check C:\Winnt\System32\ for a file calles vstkmgr.exe and
delete this mother.
You can try this removal tool from Symantec. I have had
minor success with it.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32
..gaobot.removal.tool.html

I then reboot the computer in safe mode with network
support and go to:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
and scan my computer.

THis was the only way that I was able to clean these PC.

Exchange 2003 Architecture

Posted: 13 May 2004 04:21 PM PDT

Mark,
Thanks for the reply. I understand that the Empty Forest Root design is
not a guarantee but merely an additional security hoop for them to jump
through. We plan on closely monitoring and protecting the Root domain
accounts. They are not able to just jump in and modify the Forest schema
without notifying us and getting us to do it. If there is any Forest Prep
being run, we will be the one running it, not them. I understand that there
are some creative ways to elevating permissions but they are not that
advanced in skill.

I have already run Forest Prep in all 3 domains for our upcoming
Exchange 2003 upgrade. Why would they need to run it?

Thanks,
Fred

Move Mailbox question

Posted: 12 May 2004 03:27 PM PDT

Yes the ADC should replicate the data on Groups and COntacts to your Windows
directory from the 5.5 server.
You should be able to check by using the Active Directory Users and Computer
on the Exchange Server, and looking for one of the groups or contacts.

Time of Setup for an Exchange account when setup from AD

Posted: 11 May 2004 02:01 PM PDT

UPDATE--
Our team spoke with Microsoft yesterday and they had us rebuild the RUS and then update it. We then ran diagnostics on the Exchange Server and within about 15 mins we went back to Active Directory and the user accounts were updated with the Exchange attributes
----- TomB wrote: ----

Our netowork is on the smaller side.We only have one back end exchange server set up in a cluster and one front end server set up for OWA/OMA/ & blackberry services. Locally we have 2 Domain Controllers, They synch over the wan to 6 other locations with their own Domain Controllers. We have less then 300 Users on our Network in Total and bewteen 30-40 Servers in total across our Whole network. Replication between th Dc's seems to complete between every 20-25 min. However As previously stated it takes forever for the email account to be created
Nick stated
You can speed up the process by requesting the Recipient Update Servic
instance for the domain to update. It is found in System Manager, unde
Recipients. Right click the RUS for the domain and select Update

I will try again I believe we did try this to no avail, thoughts? Also based on what I have stated in this reply can anyone fathom a guesstimate on how long it should take with forcing the RUs for email creation to happen

Exchange Server 2003 Site VS AD Site

Posted: 11 May 2004 01:26 PM PDT

Okay great.

I have two more questions though regarding this.

Even though sites are not important there is still a submenu for them in the
E2K3 MMC Snap in... So what's it for?

Now for the real question. I have a forest that's made of 3 domains in 3
different geographical locations (1 domain per office).

root.com hosts the main E2K3 server, alpha.root.com and beta.root.com will
also host an E2K3 server. The name of mail domain however is root.com so no
matter in which domain a user is, his mail adress will always be
com. Will the root.com E2K3 servers in the alpha.root.com and
beta.root.com cause any problems? Is there anything else I should consider?

thanks

Sending file shortcuts

Posted: 11 May 2004 10:58 AM PDT

I do know how to send a hyper link. I used to be able to
insert a file, and choose insert as shortcut. It would
show up the same way a shortcut shows up on your desktop
(ie looks like a file, but directs you to a file on the
server).

Any thoughts?

OWA will not display certain messages

Paul,

I read article 309677 and looked for the file it refers to
and our Microsoft Windows Server 2003 does not have that
file. We only have one user that can't see their emails
using OWA but can when using Outlook on his local
machine. Would you recommend that we save his current
Outlook into a .pst file, eliminate his user from the
server and recreate it from scratch and import his .pst
file. We are stuck and this is happening to one of the
owners of the company -so you can imagine we need to get
it fixed quickly.

Thanks!

Advanced Microsoft Exchange 2003 questions (POP3/SMTP/SPAM)

It could be the solution you are looking for. Take a look at the online
manual since there is a small section that describes the connector and some
of its caveats. (looks like you can get a 30 day eval via the download
option.)

The sizes that show up under the mailbox storage group in

not total up to the size of the PRIV1.STM. We need more
information about the PRIV1.STM file.

Second exchange 2003 srv

Posted: 11 May 2004 04:28 AM PDT

yes that is correct you want to create a mailbox store for each site and put
the users from that site on their local exchange server.
depending on the link speed you might need to put the servers on different
storage groups and setup a rounting group connector so the two servers can
communicate.

yes, you cannot upgrade from 5.5. to 2003, however you can upgrade to 2k and
then upgrade to 2003. if the 5.5 server has nothing of value, might be
easier to wipe it out and load exchange 2003.

problems with DNS

You haven't said who's DNS server you are using... If it is yours (in
house) then I'd suspect a configuration error. If it is outside, there
may well be problems with that domain's connectivity.

You don't say where you are located, but if you are a ways
(physically) from the site there may be routing issues.
