Major problem when working in Excel 2010 and upload an earlier version/losing data to Sharepoint document set

We are using SharePoint 2010 server, IE 8 and Office 2010.

We have several users that works on a Excel document all day, but when closing excel and the Upload center seems to work right (successful logged) it uploads an "earlier" version of the Excel document to SharePoint document set. See below that shows the size (størrelse) is exactly the same.

There is no conflict in the upload center.

We have issued a couple of things that shows that Excel is not robust enough.

  1. When saving twice (button and/or ctrl+S) with 1-2 seconds between we get the yellow line "Keep my version" or "Keep server version". When keeping server version it overwrites my existing Exceldata.
The odd thing is that saving continuous and the date on file in SharePoint is updated, but somehow it has an older version when using "Keep server version"
  2. The users have the Excel document in edit modus, working with something else, and when going back to the Excel document they click on the link in SharePoint document set to open it again. Sometimes my excel documents will be overwritten with old data. The users get a message sometimes - but not always

What we are wondering most about is:

  • Is Excel not robust enough with SharePoint (and upload center) and because of some wrong user interactions the data is lost? Even if using edit in excel from dropdown list og Edit workbook inside Excel
  • Or is there another issue to this that uploads an earlier version?
