I am using Word 2013 in a virtual machine running Windows 7 and I use IE10 in that machine.

If I create a blank document and enter one line http://www.microsoft.com (without parentheses it will not link to the website but results in an error message:

<quote>

Your organisation's policies are preventing us from completing this acrtion for you. For more info, please contact your help desk

</quote>

I am the only one here and I need help.

I raised this in another thread about Excel failing to do the same and was advised that this may be due to the default web browser I am using.

I am unfamiliar with IE10 and cannot find out how modify the "policies" it mentions.

Help please or I may have to abandon Office 2013 and IE10.

For windows 8, microsoft office 2010.

Thank you to anyone who can help me today.

MS Update on 7/10 has left all Word Docs are in Read Only mode

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 07:08 AM PDT

Team

One correction to my issue noted below, I'm using Windows 7, not 8.  Also, all my documents have become "read only", including Excel and PowerPoint documents.  It all happened after the update on 7/10 was automatically downloaded.

It appears that some sort of update took place from Microsoft on the 10th/11th of July, and now all my Word 2013 documents are in "read only" mode.  Is there some easy way to correct this?  It says the only way to edit the documents is to resave them as save as ...   But I have a ga-billion and 5 documents   ...well OK, I have a LOT of documents.  Please advise.

Export to a pdf file

Posted: 08 Jul 2013 11:07 AM PDT

I would like to merge to Vba codes I found on the net to obtain a single output in Pdf format.
As for the below code, only the first and last page is output as Pdf.
I would to obtain a single Pdf file that consists of "IEnd" pages, with the same name of the Word document.
Can you please help?  I am using Word 2007.

Thanks and Regards

Thanks Mark, you made a good point. The only wrinkle there is that we have

the legacy apps off of the old NT 4.0 domain.

You do not pay for hotfixes -- call up Microsoft PSS and tell them you want
the hotfix for KB # xxxxx, they'll ask for your email address, and minutes
later you willhave an email with a link to the hotfix along with a password.

Outlook can use POP3, IMAP4 and MAPI, and if you are in corporate/workgroup

What about configuring your other systems to send through one of your
Exchange 2003 systems?

Also, do you have all of the latest security updates for Exchange 5.5

Hello,

If the information store that is experiencing the 217 error is not

this particular store is already dismounted?

This wasn't exactly clear to me:

dismount a store, see the "Dismount a Store" topic in Exchange Server 2003

When you say that you "actually have the finish date set", do you mean
that you entered a date by which you want your project to end? If this
is so, then that's what's causing your problems. The point of
scheduling software like MS Project is to tell you, given the amount
of work and number of resources you say you have, when you WILL
finish. If you tell it when you MUST finish, then you essentially
hamstring the software. It becomes basically a spreadsheet.

How do I create a project without actual dates? (where every mont.

Posted: 06 Sep 2004 02:37 AM PDT

Using elapsed time will allow you to specify your task durations themselves
in terms of equal length 30 day months. The Gantt chart time scale though
is a real civil or fiscal calendar so its months are their actual lengths
even when you display the labels as months from start. If month 1 begins 1
Sep, month 2 starts 1 Oct and month 3 starts 1 Nov and the labels read Month
1, Month 2, Month 3. Since this is a proposal and the durations you list
are going to be very very rough order-of-magnitude approximations until you
develop the actual WBS anyway, does it really matter if the timescale months
are slightly unequal? Would using weeks instead of months in the timescale
solve the problem if it is?

Rod:
Thanks a lot! this worked fine. I had not considered that the week start day
would make a dofference.

In regards to you suggestions, I really appreciate it.
In reality, what I am doing is to lay-out a standard process where different
Departments are involved, so in fact I initiated the plan from start (as you
suggest) to find out what the standard timing would be every time the same
process is repeated. After I had all the tasks and lead-times figured out,
that's when I was switching the format so it doesn't go by dates but by weeks
before the main event, which is Pilot run (this is when I got the problem).
This way, every time someone follows this process, they know how many weeks
in advance they need to start and also when they need to do what. Until
today, this process was inconsistent and events happend as people
"remembered". You can imagine how bad the results were. Things are getting
better!
Thanks again,

To answer your questions, only custom Project outline codes and custom
Resource outline codes appear as dimensions in the Portfolio Analyzer. If
you are using custom Project or Resource fields such as Text, Cost, etc.,
they will not appear. You must use custom Project and Resource outline
codes instead. Hope this helps.

Setting the cursor position on Open

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 03:47 PM PDT

I am seeing several documents that consistently open to seemingly random locations in the file rather than the Home position.  One of the files had some bookmarks.  We created a new version of the file and removed them, and the behavior resolved.  The other does not contain bookmarks or cross references,  but cursor returns to mid document nonetheless.

I don't see any kind of autoexec macro, (can they be hidden?) that goes to last edit point and would be surprised if any of the authors or editors of the document knew of such magical things.

Suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

Heading in MS Word 2010 makes the text jump page

I'm using the heading feature in MS Word 2010 and most of my headings work perfectly. However, one heading in particular (Heading 4) makes the text of the entire paragraph jump to the next page. There is plenty of room for the text on the existing page, so I'm confused. I've right-clicked on the paragraph, selected "Paragraph", went to the "Line and Page Breaks" tab, and made sure that "Page break before" and "Keep with next" are both unchecked. Please help!

Styleref field is ignoring tables - how do I make it search them too?

Posted: 08 Jul 2013 05:55 AM PDT

I have a rather large document that consists mainly of a huge table containing various levels of legal text. I want to have the main article number listed in the header of each page. I've added a particular style for this and started formatting the appropriate table text with it.

I've added a StyleRef field to the header, which works for anything outside the table, but returns an error when only text inside the table is matching ("Error! No text with this style found" or something to that effect). The logical conclusion is that StyleRef fields are ignoring content of tables, and I need to reverse that somehow.

Any ideas? I should probably say I'm fairly new to Word 2010, so any arcane instructions would need to be a little spelled out probably ;)

How to change second-level form of bullets

Posted: 07 Jul 2013 08:58 AM PDT

I have a list that has bullets (circles that are entirely black). Under one of these points, I want to put a second-level bullet (I thought a circle that was white inside would appear). Instead, the bullet for that item is full black, just like the first-level items. Now I saw in Word how to change the form of bullets, but when I changed the form of that second-level item, all the other bullets changed as well. I was sure that Word would automatically provide a different form for these second-level items, just like on a numbered list, they go from Hindu-Arabic to Roman numerals, to letters.

How can I get Word to do this?

MS Works freezes

Posted: 08 Mar 2005 08:25 PM PST

Thanks for responding.

I have updated the printer driver in the past (HP). I had not considered
that possiblity however. The video driver from my computer manufacturer is
version prior to the one I downloaded from MS update, but still a ProSavage
driver. I am going to paste a more thorough description of my system for you
and others now:

"When I go into MS Works version 6.0,then tools and try to change the font
in envelopes, the dropdown freezes. Other selections can also do the same and
the program crashes. Sometimes Tool Manager can shut down Works, sometimes
only pulling the plug will turn off the computer. In December 2004 I had no
problem, but I have no restore point that far back.

Installed MS Service pak 2. All Critical Updates up to date.

75% free drive space. 512 RAM. Windows XP home edition factory installed.

Sometimes a virtual memory ballon appeared indicating more virtual memory
is needed, but not while using Works. I have since allocated more space for
that, but it did not help.

No other functional problems.

I use ZAFirewall,AVG antivirus,ewido security
suite,bazooka,WinPatrol,SpyBlaster,Ie-spyad,CWShredder,Ad-Aware SE by
LavaSoft, Stinger,SysClean,SpyBot Search&Destroy. No malware detected in
scans.

Is my video driver suspect? or what? Hardware acceleration is set at
minimum. Defraggmented weekly in SafeMode. When crash occurs CPU use is
100%. Temp files and recycle bin emptied daily. No disk errors or fixes by
Chkdsk found.

Works & XP problem

Posted: 07 Mar 2005 07:07 PM PST

Hi John,

I have only used Works 6.0.

Is Works 4 better then newer versions? Reading previous post in this news
group the answer seems to be yes, they say all versions of Works above
version 4.5 are a down grade.

At the download site...
http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/downloads.mspx#EnglishY2K

There is a Year 2000 Update, it's a 2.89 MB download, seem to recall it
fixes a lot of problems other then year 2000. Think it updates the program
to version 4.5a. Perhaps it might help with your existing problems.

Works 6.0 includes it's Works Word Processor

I have Works Suite 2001, it includes Works 6.0 with it's Works Word
Processor and Microsoft Word Processor.

Thanks Ken,

I downloaded the 'Mail Merg Patch' from that site but still have the
problem. Can you please tell me why I can find no reference to WORD
PROCESSOR in Works 6? Works 4 has database, spreadsheet and word processor -
when I try to open my Works 4 WP document (an invoice I made to print from
database) it only asks me which program and the only one that will open it
is 'WORD' and then it does not have any of the original connections to the
database.

I have both versions 4 and 6 installed and if you say the 4 is as good as 6
I will uninstall the 6 and try to find help on my problems with 4
disappearing whenever it feels like it.

Works-2004 - Install Streets & Trips data?

Posted: 07 Mar 2005 01:37 AM PST

Hello Ken:

Thanks for the help it worked when I used the Custom Install but with a
glitch. When the program started installing the data it stopped mid way with
an Error Message stating that it could not find a file with a choice to
retry, ignore or close. I hit retry several times and then realized that the
file must be on the data CD or Work's disk 5. In put in disk 5 hit retry and
it installed all the data. Everything works just fine. Microsoft should
have done a better job; instead of there being an error message it should
state "Please insert disk 5 and press the continue button [instead of retry]
This would be consistant with the rest of the Works program.
Thanks again for your help

It might be due to the type of account you have. Is it "Limited" or

Thanks Ken. I uninstalled Works again: then searched for that file, including
in Hidden files and nothing came up in the search results: then reinstalled
Works. For a start the same problem was still there, and now I couldn't
open
the Portfolio either- so reinstalled Works again over the top and it seems
to
be Ok now, touch wood.
Thanks for your help

Office XP Problems

Posted: 10 Oct 2004 12:50 PM PDT

Hi Matthew,

If you have an Office11 folder that would indicate that
you had/have installed MS Office System 2003 (v11) over
or with Office XP(2003). What MS Office programs are
listed in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel?

If your program was installed from a CD or a network server
and you need to repair or reinstall you'll need access to
that installation media.

OFFICE11 is the folder I tried to run the applications from, but it had that
error. There are no shortcuts to the program on the system anywhere, except
in the program files (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11) But I
tried going to the Office11 folder and got the same error. Maybe the
software is faulty? >>

Correct as I stated above but that's not the question. The question
is: "Is this legal according to the EULA?" That's the question and the
person involved doesn't care to violate the EULA regardless of whether
it activates properly, he's concerned as to the "letter of the
agreement".

Personally, I'm with you, if it activates it's OK but he's not as
casual about it as I am...... ;-)

Couple of suggestions, have you tried cleaning the disk? You can get
disk cleaners but a careful wash with mild dish soap and warm water
followed by placing the disk on paper towels will remove dirt and
smudges and often the disk will read OK. Next, do you have a CD or a
DVD burner as well as a CDROM? If so, try reading the disk on the
burner, they seem to read damaged disks better than a CD ROM.
IMPORTANT! If it will read on the burner, copy it to your harddisk and
burn a copy so you'll have it next time.

Last, call MSFT. They have a program to replace damaged disks, they'll
need proof of purchase and a couple of bucks for shipping, I'm not sure
what software is covered but it won't hurt to try. If your copy is OEM
call the manufacturer.

office xp width 98, then xp pro?

Posted: 07 Oct 2004 07:23 PM PDT

Thanks David for you prompt reply. It is a full version, not an upgrade, and
I bought it from the college bookstore, at a special educational price; big
discount, no documentation, just 3 sealed CDs.

From reading some other threads here, I see it is permitted to put office on
one desktop computer, and also on a laptop, so long as it is mine also, and
to be used when I am away from the desktop one. So that is two activations
allowed.

If I install it on this older desktop and a laptop, and eventually buy a
replacement desktop, that would require three activations. Will MS give the
three activations in such a situatiion?

Printer and XP compatibility

You did not say how you installed WinXp if you did an upgrade then you
should have done a check to see what hardware and software should have been
removed before an upgrade
What you probably should have done was remove the printer drivers before an
upgrade then did the upgrade
A 5150 should have XP drivers they should be on the disk that came with the
printer
Check with HP for a uninstalled which may remove all the software
If there isn't one then uninstall XP going back to your original OS
then remove the drivers and upgrade again
