Office365-Word-Win8.1 Headers Change Size on random pages

Posted: 17 Aug 2014 01:48 PM PDT

When formatting a multi-page document, using page breaks and section breaks, with alternating headers, the headers appear as designed with this exception:

on certain random pages (not right after or before breaks, etc.) the header space is suddenly taking up half the page, so the text appears under an expanse of white in the middle of the page, rather than at the top.

If I attempt to edit the header, I can see the bottom margin is just above the text, half-way down the page.

Changing the "space from top" does not reduce this deep margin. The header is showing exactly where it should, so doesn't need to be higher.

What could be causing this? How can I correct this problem when it is only happening on completely random pages?

Grateful for any and all suggestions.

Thank you.

Need to limit resume to one page

Posted: 17 Aug 2014 08:24 AM PDT

My problem is that the resume fills the whole page, and Word automatically inserts the second blank page as if I were going to continue writing.  I need to limit the document to one page.  The resume is mostly made of table to make everything easily ordered.  Not sure if that is what is causing the problem.  When I go to the next page and attempt to backspace to get rid of it, nothing happens.

Microsoft Word - The most defective Word Processing Program on The Market Today

Posted: 17 Aug 2014 04:48 AM PDT

I cannot help but believe that Microsoft products have become so frustratingly defective, that, by now, they must actually be hurting the US economy.

Hundreds of thousands of employees across the Country have been forced to waste hundreds of thousands of hours of work time, wrestling with defective Microsoft programs which either do not function, or are so counter-intuitive, that they have employees ripping their hair out, just trying to perform basic functions so that they can work accomplished.

Lets look at the newest version of Microsoft Word.  So many of its functions no longer operate that this product should never have been made available to the public.  Non-working functions are those that simply do not work when you choose them.

By way of example, if you tell the program to stop opening documents in safe mode, by turning off the options in the trust center, the program will ignore you, and will keep opening documents in safe mode.  Want to know if this defect really exists?  Just go onto google and search to see how many people are complaining about this, receiving no CORRECT answers as to how to fix this defect.

The same goes for the remove page numbering command, and the change page orientation command, each of which will often simply not function.  These are just three, of a very long list.

It is just amazing that they took what was an excellent word processing program, and turned it into garbage.

As for the abomination known as Windows 8, god only knows how much employees' time US companies have lost as a result of that moronic diatribe of computer coding.

I think the entire Board of Directors at Microsoft needs to be replaced.  Any competent board would have never let a respectable company put out garbage such as this.

Word prompts me to save changes to a .dot template created by me

Posted: 17 Aug 2014 04:13 AM PDT

I have a template file (.dot) file which is there in my C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033 folder. This file is accessed by a third party add-in also created by me. This add-in makes use of the template file and creates a new file with that template.

Word prompts me saying that the .dot file has been modified and do you want to save the new .dot file every time I use the add-in to create a new file.

"You have modified styles, building blocks (such as cover pages or headers), or other content that is stored in "external.dot". Do you want to save changes to "external.dot"?"

This has been bothering me a lot lately. Kindly help me.

Thanks in advance,

ASUS T100 May Have Virus, Microsoft Word has disappeared

Posted: 16 Aug 2014 03:39 PM PDT

Hi,
On every internet browser I've tried (Explorer, Chrome, Firefox), I am getting an inordinate number of pop-ups and difficulty opening said browsers.
I'm not sure the origin of this problem, but it wasn't like this initially.
Recently, Microsoft Word has malfunctioned, the shortcut was corrupted, and now Word has completely disappeared from my tablet. It is no longer in any search of the hard drive.
1. How do I find out if there is a virus?
2. Can I reinstall Microsoft Word, despite having no traces of it on my tablet? and if so, How can it be reinstalled?
(I still have the original packaging and informative booklets.

Thank you for your time with this request.

This does not seem to agree with the featured Microsoft designs (see screenshot)

Will this be adressed in future versions of Office?

Asigning multiple resources with delay Microsoft Project

Asigning multiple resources with delay Microsoft Project

Asigning multiple resources with delay

Posted: 25 Aug 2005 03:18 AM PDT

In MS Project use the Resource Schedule View. This view lets you define the
dates when the resources start work on the tasks. In your scenario simply
define the date (5th day) when Bob joins Dave in coding.

Secondly you need to take into account the work involved. When Bob joins
Dave how much work would have been completed. Then define how they will share
the work, i.e., from 5th day onward how much work is allocated to Bob.

If Dave has to do 60h and Bob 20h then you will get the schedule
automatically calculated by MS project as 7.5 days. This considers that when
Bob joined Dave, Dave had done 50% of the work and the remaining was shared
50% each.

Kind regards,

How do I put a watermark (i.e. "DRAFT") on a MSProject printout?

Posted: 24 Aug 2005 03:15 PM PDT

Mike,
This will work when printing on normal paper (letter or legal), but I
frequently have to present to an audience and larger paper is sometimes
needed from a plotter. Since the paper source is a 36in wide roll,
reprinting from the same paper is not doable.

I guess I have an expectation that since Word has this feature, why not all
MS products?

Thanks for suggestion using Word, though.

Duration is not adding up

Posted: 24 Aug 2005 07:19 AM PDT

In article <com>,
"NK" <microsoft.com> wrote:

Nick,
Mike explained how Duration of a Summary Line is calculated by Project.
However, I note in your second post that you are talking about "time".
Perhaps you are looking at the Work field and the Work field of a
Summary Line WILL equal the sum of Work for all subtasks - unless
Calculation (Tools/Options/Calculation tab) is set to manual.

Duration time and Work time are two different entities in Project.
Duration is the time (normally in days) during which a task will/needs
to be accomplished. Conversely, Work time is the effort by one or more
resources to actually perform the task. Depending on how resources are
assigned, the two values (minutes, hours, days, etc.) may or may not be
equal.

If we still are not "getting it", please elaborate so we can give you
the answer you need (although it may not be the answer you want or
expect). For example, what "numbers" don't add up?

Hope this helps.

this was a learning experience for me too.

The macro is set up to use spare Task field Number1 to display the
indicators (I chose a simple sphere). You didn't indicate what you
wanted to do with Summary Lines. Since % Complete for Summary Lines is
calculated by Project there is always some argument as to its validity.
As written indicators for Summary Lines are not displayed. If you want
indicators for Summary Lines, simply comment out (insert an apostrophe
at the beginning of the line) the first line of code and remove the
comment indicator from the second line of code.

Herewith is the macro. If you need help in setting it up and running it,

pay attention to line continuation indicators (i.e. space and
underscore).

Early and Late S Curve.

Posted: 24 Aug 2005 03:58 AM PDT

Thanks John,

I wasn't going to write a piece of vba, as this only has to be performed
when we re-baseline a schedule.

I was using the timescaled analysis facilities. the only solution I came up
with is to copy the schedule to a temporary file, copy the late dates over
the early and perform a timescaled analysis to export the data to excel.

But the company I work for has the option to upgrade to project professional
2003, from 2000. But I don't know what the advantages would be to advise them
to do so.

Formula Question

Posted: 23 Aug 2005 08:18 AM PDT

Got it! Thank you, Jack.

Now I am trying to figure out the next piece of what I am trying to do, but
I am lost. How do I change the color of the text? Can you do that? Is
there an example formula I can look at?

To make my question clearer: Here is one formula that I got off this site
that I am now using: IIf([%
Complete]=100,"Complete",IIf((ProjDateDiff(datevalue([Finish]),Datevalue([Current
Date]),[Project Calendar])/480)>4,"Late by 5 or
More",IIf((ProjDateDiff(datevalue([Finish]),Datevalue([Current
Date]),[Project Calendar])/480)>0,"Late by 1-4","Not Late")))

In cases where the value yields either "Late by 5 or More" and "Late by
1-4", how can I change those tasks to, say, red? Is that possible?

Thanks!

How do I add an entry on the "New" context menu (Win 7, Office XP, 2007 Compatibility Pack) ??

Posted: 16 Aug 2014 08:27 AM PDT

I used ShellNewhandler.exe to put Office XP on my "New" context menu.  All's OK, except I can't get the Word entry to work correctly, probably because of the Compatibility Pack.  The Word entry on the context menu only opens a blank  .DOCX template, and I then have to go thru a lot of shenanigans to get it into .doc format so I can use it (eg, change font, Save As...).  So how do I get Word to open in Office XP (Word 2002) straightaway, not in Word 2007? Thnx (Win 7/64 Hm Prem).

Word registry settings - not obeying printer properties

Posted: 16 Aug 2014 05:33 AM PDT

This is a really weird one. A while ago I had a little accident with the registry on my laptop and corrupted my user profile. I managed to rescue the situation by using Windows Easy Transfer to archive my user settings to an external disk, deleted the user then reinstated it from the save file. So far, so good. This seemed to fix all my registry problems and everything was back to normal.

That was until I tried to do a two-sided print, two pages per sheet. Word for Windows now insists on ignoring whatever I say in printer properties and instead always prints full-sized and on only one side of the paper. This only applies to Word for Windows (other applications print fine) and it's user-specific. I can log-on to the same machine using a different user account and, using the same version of Word for Windows, print the same file to the same printer and have it come out two-sided etc. as requested.

OK, I admit I am using a very old version of Word (2003 11.8411.8405, SP3) but it meets my requirements and, as a now-retired software developer, I cannot justify the expense of upgrading. My laptop is running Windows 7, SP1. The printer is a Canon Pixma ip5200R. It is not connected directly to my laptop but is connected to a tower PC running Windows XP. I connect to the printer via LAN.

Printing using specific properties used to work from all user accounts on my laptop. It's only since my registry accident that I've had the problem with this one user account so I am convinced it is a registry problem. Has anyone any good ideas where to look for a quick fix?

Unwanted spaces

Posted: 16 Aug 2014 03:45 AM PDT

I was changing selected spaces in a long block of text to pairs of paragraph breaks into a long block of text (i.e., replace 'space' with ^p^p if I were using the replace function), and found that in addition to the paragraph markers, Word was inserting a space before the first paragraph mark, and after the second (i.e., replace 'space' with 'space'^p^p'space').  How can I turn this imbecility off, permanently?

My Word 2013 was working flawlessly, until one time that I tried to open file 'A' and it crashed. Since then it keeps crashing no matter what file I'm trying to

open. If I try to open file 'A'  from Word itself, it tells me that, the last time I tried to open it it caused a serious problem, and that I could recover the file but lose all my formatting.

Now, Word's not even opening a New File.

Here's the Event Log;

Description:
Faulting application name: WINWORD.EXE, version: 15.0.4631.1000, time stamp: 0x5396ace5

I'd really appreciate help. Thank you.

Quotation marks and apostrophes change to Calibri (Body)

Posted: 15 Aug 2014 10:38 PM PDT

Typing in New Times Roman, a document started changing quotation marks and apostrophes to Calibri (Body) and leaving a gap before the opening quotation mark and after the closing quotation mark, and adding a gap after the apostrophe, as in ( "gaps before and after" ) and don'  t.  Anyone know why it's changing just those punctuation marks to Calibri (Body)?

Adobe fonts do not render correctly in MS Word (2013)

Posted: 15 Aug 2014 09:04 PM PDT

Some time ago I purchased as set of different Adobe Caslon fonts and have carried them with me from computer to computer.

They install just fine on my new Windows 7 PC.  However, they will not render properly in MS Word.  They appear in the font box as expected (e.g., ACaslon Regular). If I click on a word and then right click > Font, they will render correctly in the Preview pane.  If I convert the file to PDF, they render perfectly. BUT I can't them to appear properly in the Word document itself.

Any help would be appreciated.

How to Set backcolour in Word Textbox?

Posted: 15 Aug 2014 07:26 PM PDT

I've imported a picture into word and placed a textbox on part of it.  It's set to No Fill.

If I type into it - no problem - but I want to paste something in. The paste includes a white background which I don't want (I want it to

be transparent so the text is on top of my image).

How can I remove the white backcolour please ?

Can't open any older files in word, powerpoint or excel

Posted: 15 Aug 2014 05:26 PM PDT

I have a 365 university Office and I can't open any files that the school gives us, (which is something very important) !! which are in 97-2003 formats I think, which shouldnt be a problem??

In powerpoint it says it cant read the file and in word it says there was an error trying to open the file.

This is not acceptable and I need help NOW!!! And dont want any tricks to get around the problem I need a solution! Obviously I need to be able to access older files then the 2013 ones.

This is the second problem I had with this product last time it was the proofing and spell checker that just disappeared so I'm not that impressed with the product.

How Do You Spell Relief? I Spell It Office 2000

Posted: 06 Apr 2007 04:45 AM PDT

Calm down emanon. MS makes one type of product and other companies make
their own type of products. It is not up to MS to make its products
compatible with all the products out their in the wild. It is up to the
product makers to make sure its products are compatible with de facto
industry standard OS and Office packages!!.

Don't you think it makes sense for companies to make sure its products
are compatible rather than expecting MS to make sure its products are
compatible with 1000s of products out their? It is virtually impossible
for one company to take this responsibility and moreover, if it does
then anti-trust law suits will stop them from doing so. Do you remember
what happens to pdf convertibility in office 2007? MS was forced to
remove it because adobe objected to it!!

You really need to realistic about your expectations!!

Hope this helps.

Install Office 2000 and Office 2003 on one machine

Posted: 05 Apr 2007 02:02 AM PDT

Hi, Mo,

Install them in order of their release (2000 first, then 2003). Microsoft
does not recommend running multiple versions on the same operating system,
and you can not have more than one version of Outlook. Here is an article
to get you started:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828956/en-us

Virtual PC is a nice option for running multiple versions, because you can
isolate them and run Outlook in each Virtual PC session.

Problems with Off. Pro Accounting & SQL Server connecting remotely

Posted: 04 Apr 2007 06:06 PM PDT

Hi Chris,

There are a number of factors that can affect the MS Office Business Contact Manager (BCM), including whether or not you're using a
MS Exchange Server. As it can work with the Office Accounting product and that is also giving you a bit of bother, you may want to
followup on the relationship aspect of the two products and describe how you'd like to be able to work with the products in your
setup in the BCM discussion group through the link below.

Thank You, any ideas why this also does not work with Contact Manager, are
these products not designed to be run over a network like this?

Thanks, Greg. You may need to contact Microsoft PSS, then, if peer support
isn't of any assistance. If Norton 360 is also doing this, then Office
isn't likely the issue, either, and perhaps it's related to the operating
system.

sure it's a DVD - it runs some DVDs and has run them in the past. It works
fine as a CD drive. I'm running out of ideas here which is why I thought I'd
try here. It's looking like I won't be running Office 2007 any time soon.

Event Error 5000

Posted: 30 Mar 2007 02:32 PM PDT

Hi Adam,

Sorry for the delay due to the weekend.

Based on the information you provided, this error may be cause by many
reasons. I have listed some of them for your reference:

* Reason 1: Large .pst or .ost file
===============

Are you using a large .pst or .ost file? If your .pst or .ost file is
larger than 2GB, you may experience a performance issue in Outlook 2007.

In order to accommodate new features, Outlook 2007 introduced a new data
structure for .pst and .ost files. In this new data structure, the
frequency of writing data to the hard disk increases as the number of items
in the .pst or .ost files increases.

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:

# Method 1: Reduce the size of the Exchange mailbox
# Method 2: Use an online mode profile instead of a cached mode profile
# Method 3: Split your large .pst file into several smaller .pst files
# Method 4: Use a filter to restrict the items that you synchronized from
Exchange into your .ost file

For more information, please refer to the following KB article:

KB932086 You may experience performance problems when you are working with
items in a large .pst file or in a large .ost file in Outlook 2007
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;932086

* Reason 2: Windows Desktop Search 3.0
===============

Have you installed any desktop search engine such as Windows Desktop Search
3.0? If this is the case, please temporarily uninstall it and then test the
issue.

If this does not match your situation, then please also try some
suggestions below to narrow it down:

* Suggestion 1: Temporarily turn off/remove antivirus program
================

Many times such issue can be caused by the antivirus program currently
running on the machine. Please temporarily turn off or remove antivirus
application and see if this scenario is gone.

* Suggestion 2: Temporarily remove Adobe Reader
================

Sometimes Adobe Reader can also cause this issue. If you have this program
installed on your computer, please temporarily remove it and see if this
issue can be resolved.

* Suggestion 3: Test in Outlook Safe Mode
================

Outlook Safe Mode can narrow down issues which are caused by any
extensions, corrupted resources, files, registries, or templates.

1. Click Start | Run.
2. In the Open box, type: "Outlook /safe" (without the quotation marks)
Notes: There is a space character between Outlook and the forward slash (/).
3. Click OK.

If all fail, then please help us collect more information so that we can do
further research:

* Information Collection
=================

1. When does the error message appear? What are the steps to reproduce this
issue?
2. Does the produce ever worked? If so, what have been changed?
3. Please take a screenshot on the exact error message and send it to me.
** To take a screenshot
---------------------
1. When this error message appears, press PrScrn key on your keyboard.
2. Type "mspaint" (without the quotation marks) in Start>Run box and click
OK.
3. Click Edit>Paste to paste the screenshot.
4. Save it as JPEG file type and send it as Email attachment.
---------------------

You can send it directly to this newsgroup or you can send it to me at
<com>

Please try my suggestions, and update me with the results and information.
If something is unclear, please feel free to let me know.

Leon Hao

There is no way to "completely" remove Office from your system without
re-formatting, unfortunately. Uninstalling via the Control Panel does a
pretty good job, if it works.

I would still suggest you consider trying the steps in the order I showed.
The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility should help you remove registry
references to old versions of Office, and then you can try re-installing
Office to restore them properly.

Just make sure you have all the installation CDs and product keys you need
to re-install before you remove the registry references.
