General question regarding activation

Posted: 14 Dec 2005 05:36 PM PST

Ron,

The 120 days is from an Article (about Windows XP) by late Alex Nichol,
MS-MVP. Have a look here:

http://aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.php#howlong

I assume the same rules apply about other retail products. OEM
reinstall on the same system always require telephone activation as
piracy seems to be on the increase with these types of CDs.

As far as I know, the Retail Version of any products can be moved to any
systems provided it is first uninstalled from the first system.
However, it is your word against Microsoft's and nobody is going to come
to your house to check you have done what you claim to have done. It is
a question of trust.

As far as MS support is concerned, they are required to continue support
for at least 10 years after first release of the product. After that
nobody knows what happens but it is likely that a patch may be issued to
avoid activation once the support has ceased. MS can't continue to have
a database of people's products installation for ever. The cost comes
into the equation whether to have a database permanently or not. Office
XP was release in 2002 and so by the time 2012 comes, people would have
stopped using their XP product - at least this is the theory! I still
use some DOS products and Windows 98SE! But hen I am eccentric!

Office 2003, Custom Installation Wizard, MST

Tom,

I haven't tried the Custom Maintenance Wizard, but from looking at it,
it would seem that it would defeat the purpose of me deploying the
install through Group Policy because I would then need to visit the
stations to run the Maintenance file. I think I might contact
Microsoft directly and have them explain to me why the .MST file is
being ignored. If I get anywhere, I will certainly post an answer to
this thread for others.

Thanks for your time,
Troy.

PhotoDraw works on some WinXP machines, but doesn't work on
others. PhotoDraw is a discontinued product, and Microsoft no
longer supports it. See

You can also do it at the command line but yes. installing an application
from add/remove programs puts the server into install mode as well.

NO Activation wizard, driving me mad..... can't activate Office 20

Posted: 11 Dec 2005 06:36 AM PST

Snap! Exactly same problems as you. Where's that damned wizard. Will let
you know if I resolve it. I bought a PC with student teacher 2003 trial
preinstalled - never gave me an option to activate when I first started an
Office application otherwise I would have. No link available on the Help
menu - nothing happens when you click Activate. I then uninstalled the trial
version and installed a proper retail Student Teacher version that I'd
bought. It is still in reduced functionality. No
way of activating.

of that worldwide. If you not yet use these services, would open in PayPal
on fee and cost-free Online account (Basis Premium-account) In order to
receive also credit-cards-payments. You go in with the opening of this
account no obligations.
The best at the PayPal-service is that the money can be sent by an E-MAIL
ADDRESS to the other E-MAIL ADDRESS without having to sacrifice the private
bank data.

And therefore also the Online-accounts are represented on the lower list
through E-mail-addresses.

- An example, how much you can earn through your participation alone at the
mail-lists of this program, if you have only 10 participants:

1St plain - 10 participants >> EUR 30.00
2Nd plain - 100 participants >> EUR 300.00
3Rd plain - 1,000 participants >> EUR 3,000.00
4Th plain - 10,000 participants >> EUR 30,000.00

DREAM AND THIS PROGRAM, CAN YOU YOUR DREAMS LIFE.
SEQUENCE THE INSTRUCTIONS HOWEVER EXACTLY, THAT IS IMPORTANT.
************************************************** *************************************

follow now the following steps to start:

Would register you in that "mail-lists" in order to be at the same time if
it concerns large money earn.

Click up: https://www.paypal.com

(should that link not active, would copy it please into your browser)

a) drawer now your Online-account with 12 Euros up
(You pay on your Paypal-account per bank-transfer or credit card the 12
Euros)

The 12 Euros are laughable in contrast to that what you salary if you are at
the same time and remain at the ball.

b ) would send now of your Online-account on each position of the list Per
PayPal 3,- Euro.

- for use-purpose write you: "Service"
- for E-mail-reference write you: "Mail-list" + Order-number (see below)

How you can send money, you find on the web page of Paypal simply declared.

the present list:

1) net >>>>Mail-list 1
2) de >>>>>Mail-list2
3) de >>>Mail-list 3
4) de >>>>>Mail-list4
5) de >>>>>Mail-list5

Through the fast payment per enamel and the reception , it lasts only a few
days until you get first payments on your Paypal-account.

C) would copy this letter / side, would open your letter program (editor,
Wordpad) and would join the letter there on.

The mail-address deletes now behind position 1.
The mail-address moves now behind position 2 towards the top to 1
The mail-address moves now behind position 3 towards the top to 2
The mail-address moves now behind position 4 towards the top to 3
The mail-address moves now behind position 5 towards the top to 4

Position 5 is now empty - would write here your enamel-address a (the same
like in PayPal)

Why the respectively 3 Euros?

-> The respectively 3 Euros are for your mail-lists-participation.
- > With your registration into the mail-list, you secure yourself the
opportunity to be AHEAD with at the same time if again LARGE business-ideas
become born.
- > You get independent of your present position in the list , faster than
other , information and programs in order to be again from the beginning at
the same time yourself the large money knocks with you.

The registration into the mail-list is the door.
Without your registration, the door remains locked you and earn others
otherwise the large money.

The example above stands for ONLY 10 participants.

Now would calculate once, how much money you salary if you have... 50, 100,
or 200 participants
And that is ONLY the BEGINNING.

There is no boundary for your income that you can produce through this
program!

This business functions, but you exactly must follow it!

No success have many persons BECAUSE they do not comply with the
business-plan.

Especially the direction to not to write to try your E-Mail-address to
another place, for that will not function and will lose you a quantity at
potential income. To write neither the registration WITHOUT payment, yet the
attempt, the characteristic E-Mail-address to position 1.
For without payment no the mail-lists include in, and through that reaches
set the characteristic E-Mail-address on position 1 ONLY the first
participants one and is deleted immediately after that.

It is to be made really a magnificent possibility relatively easily money
without large investments.

If you you decide to participate in this business , would follow the
instructions exactly and you betrittst the way to the financial freedom and
security.
If you read this program, you will recognize that this program is very
profitable, the ENTIRE mail-letter is logical, simple and for each
intelligibly.

Would send this mail-letter at personal contacts and as an answer at people,
who send you its programs , that work like you, already in the internet.
Would register you in Paid-mail-services, newsletter , Newsgroups, would
write in fora.

You show that this program already convinced functioned and are by this
system! It does NOT count AS a spam, if you on offer of the people, that
send you mails , with which sending of this mail-letter answer.

Because of the speed and the lucrative get into-possibility , this program
will overtake already soon other programs in internet.

And that is ONLY the BEGINNING.
If the first payments went in on your Paypal-account, all your remaining
doubts will disappear and will recognize you that this super-draft of other
is superior.

Would store your updated letter now. Would send it per E-MAIL or would
construct it into your Web-side on. Endure this letter
Free classified ads, Paid-mail-services, Newsgroups in the network, ect.
confessed.

Little hint:

Would copy this text / this side and would send it at 40 people. The number
40 in the head would retain is easily reach can, 40 a good number of people
that one in the internet.

Each has the chance to become rich. But only the least use the chance that
offers itself you.

UTILIZE YOUR CHANCE NOW AND BE THERE. HURRY UP !!!

How do I transfer Office to my new computer?

Posted: 09 Dec 2005 10:05 AM PST

If this is the full retail version of Office XP, you can install on one
desktop and one portable, not 2 desktops. If this is the Student's and
Teacher's edition, you can install a single copy only. If this is an OEM
version, it is tied to the machine on which it came preinstalled and cannot
be installed on any other machine, ever.

Office 2003 Student's and Teacher's Edition allows for 3 installs, any
combination. Maybe time for an upgrade if you qualify? I have seen prices
at around $125 for the STE - pretty good bargain for 3 machines.

Alternatively, you need to run MS Insaller cleanup utility to delete

I ty to do a new install and it looks for my G:\ drive then when it
can't find it it won't let me install.

I have deleted everything I can find, renamed the Office11 directory and
even tried the resource kit. I even tried it's uninstall. And I got a
Registry Cleaner to get rind of unassociated entries.

Help, can someone tell me where that pointer is that points to my G:\
drive so I can delete it and do an install from scratch.

I have MS Office 2003 Small Business Edition.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and your guidance.

Re-Installing Office - Registering!!!

Posted: 02 Dec 2005 01:25 AM PST

No you can't deactivate any of the MS programs. Once you are on a
database, it is very difficult to come out of it. The cost of removing
somebody manually is exorbitant. I am on one spam database and I can't
get out of it. I stopped using an email address for about a year and
still the messages were still coming. the account was also closed for
one complete year but no effect!

What you need to do is to copy two files before formatting the HD. The
two files are:

OPA11.DAT
OPA11.bak

These files are located in (default location unless changed by you):

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office\Data

Also, please note that Office 2003 can be installed on two systems so if
you have used only one so far then it should be easy to install and
activate it on another.

Before copying the two files, please ensure you have renamed the new
files after reformatting to:

OPA11.001
OPA11.002

Please use common-sense when replacing the original files to avoid
headaches.

But I hoped I could just upload to the server and go, as the docs say. I would

I probably should not.

Wait. This is fairly pointless, and it will misreport the contents of
directories that have hardlinks between them for files on the same

You want to find out what your partitions are with "df", and run "du -x -h"
on those individual partitions to get the right information.

I'm afraid not.

Perhaps I have not described the problem properly.

The mouse has three buttons, with the mouse wheel providing the middle
button.

But this is very sensitive. So when I scroll, I often accidentally
click as well, which ends up pasting some selection in into what ever
I am trying to scroll over.

So I want to disable the mouse wheel button, whilst keeping mouse
wheel scrolling. Then I want to use three button emulation to get
middle mouse button functionality.

And alternative would be to have middle mouse button disabled while
scrolling with the wheel is happening. This would be the best option
of all.

I'm sure I had something like this working before.

Cannot boot Linux from hard disk Athlon 64, A8N-SLI

Posted: 01 Jun 2005 10:16 PM PDT

Upon further investigation, I discovered the problem is with ordering
of the
SATA disks. The disks are connected to connectors SATA1, SATA2, SATA3
on the motherboard, and they are seen as such by grub at bootup:
SATA1 = (hd0), SATA2 = (hd1) & SATA3 = (hd2). However the kernel sees
it differently: SATA1 = /dev/sdb, SATA2 = /dev/sdc & SATA3 = /dev/sda.
All the boot stuff is installed in /dev/sda1, but then at bootup time
that
partition appears as (hd2,0) to grub, not (hd0,0).

Any ideas how to fix this? Or should I just live with it.

Need help printer setup on Redhat Linux

[ Followup-To -> comp.os.linux.setup seems best match ]

In comp.os.linux.setup RC <noaa.gov>:

Sure you can, there's no need for any xserver on the system just
to run some xapplication. X is full network aware. Best idea to
use it through ssh, install the small XFree86-xauth package and
request X11 Forwarding via 'ssh -C -X remotebox'.

On the other hand cups can be setup through its web interface,
again you can use ssh to forward the connection from your GUI
browser to the remote system. Or reconfigure cups to be
accessible from your desktop, IIRC default is localhost only.

Good luck

I have a network server setup. I have a client server that I will use

recognizes the client via the PXE and the client recognizes the network
server. I need for the network server to partition the OS drive and
load the OS on the client server.
I am fairly new to this and need to know how I can make this happen?

Earned Value re BCWP at Task and Resource Level

Posted: 28 Jan 2005 11:23 AM PST

In the tools, Options menu, Calculation tab, make sure the first item
"Updating task status updates resource status" is turned on. That option
sets or severs the link between % Complete and % Work Complete. It's
slightly misleading in its wording because it seems to imply it's a one-way
connection when in fact it's two-way. With it turned on, entering %
Complete also updates Actual Work and entering Actual Work updates %
Complete.

Resource vs. Task Dependency

Posted: 28 Jan 2005 10:49 AM PST

You can get much the same effect with resource calendars and the leveling
engine although it doesn't give you any graphical indication of a "link."
Task dependencies sequence tasks based on their logical relationships in the
project's physical processes. Resource dependencies sequence tasks based on
the availability of the resources required to do the work. How does that
differ from Project's present method of leveling to sequence tasks to
resolve overallocations, coupled with using task priorities to establish a
preferred after-leveling order and the behavior of the resource calendar
governing what time periods in which it is possible for the task to occur?
As far as I know, "resource dependencies" allow the PM to say "I want Joe to
do tasks A and B and since I already know he's not going to be able to do
both of them at the same time, I sequence them with a link." But that's
just doing manually what leveling does for you.

printout prior to these problems occuring and these tasks where not
sub-tasks of the summary tasks at that stage .. they then got moved around
..... and this was the start of the problems with the file ... another
problem with this file was the summary task's durations were not calculating
correctly and every time you did anything in the file you got a circular
error message which the users had been ignoring for about 2 weeks!!!!
(luckily we resuced the file and all is well now)

Phased EMail from CRM?

For WorkFlow, what you do is assign a "on create" WF to wait for the custom
field to change to 1. When it does, send out a particular email template.
Then, tell it to wait 2 days, then send out the next. And so forth.

For post callout, you would create a COM object to handle the fact that the
field has been updated to 1 and then pass the information to another
application (a more sophisticated email application perhaps) that will
perform the actual sending.

User license vs. Server license

Posted: 13 Aug 2004 08:24 AM PDT

Arni,

You can add a Service license to a Sales only install. In reality, the "Server"
license doesn't actually generate a key, the keys are only for the user
licenses. So, there isn't a need to do a "new" install in this case.

But it still doesn't quite solve my case. I understand that for
Service functionality I need Service Server license. But the case I'm
wondering about is that if a customer already has a MS CRM deployment
that only contains Sales Server license and want to "upgrade to" Sales
and Service Server license.

For my best knowledge you can't upgrade Server license e.g. start with
Sales server license and then later on add the Service license... can
you?? So if I'm right you would have to set up a new deployment with
Sales and Server license. And then my question is, can I use the user
license already purchased for the first deployment or would one have
to buy them all over again.

If you can't move user license between server deployments, one would
really have to be quite sure that Service functionality will never be
needed before deciding to deploy only Sales server license.

Kind regards

Global Catalog with Exchange

Posted: 17 Oct 2005 10:29 AM PDT

The Directory Access tab shows the two GC's, DC A and DC B. So, they are
there are detected by the system. The ability to add/remove servers are
greyed out, although if I switch to show "Global Catalog Servers", the
display does allow me to check/uncheck "Automatically discover servers"
(which it is checked already). Just for some reason, it looks to DC A for GC
services. Now, for my testing, I've just been literally "pulling the plug"
on DC A (removing cat-5 cable). What if I do an actual shutdown to DC A?
Will that send a signal to the other domain controllers that it is going
down, and that DC B should now take on the GC services for the domain. Or do
I have to demote the server to fully relinquish it from GC services?

thanks again for the help!

GFI Mail Essential

The options that it has are great and it will catch a huge amount of junk if
configured correctly. I suggest running it using the "SPAM" tag for a few
weeks and tell your users to forward any emails tagged as "SPAM" to you so
you can adjust the safe senders list or filtering. Also use the reports to
see what is going on. Once you have a good configrunning change the "SPAM"
to either delete if you feel real good about your config or drop all the
"SPAM" into a public folder and tell users if they are missing an email they
think should have been sent to check that folder (make sure to clean it out
once a month).

On average I have seen sites that said spam was not a problem show me with
GFI reports that the total amount of spam was actually as much as 50% of all
emails.

RPC/HTTPS config without being on domain or network

Certainly.

I did setup the profile using VPN in my home system where the system is
never part of my company domain and local network either. Once you are
able to resolve your mailbox with the server, disconnect the VPN and
then you are in RPC HTTP mode.

One note if you are setting up RPC HTTP in your company laptop -- Under
"Exchange proxy Settings", I cleared the check box for "On fast
networks, connect using HTTP first , then connect using TCP/IP" to
avoid your laptop using RPC HTTP mode when you are the office.

Well I believe it's allowing forms based authentication that takes that

That is what we did.

In the exchange system manager, you navigate to Administrative Groups, First

Then you select settings and check the box which says "Enable Forms Based

At least that is what we did on our Exchange 2003 server to get rid of the

es2003 or active directory on main server

Posted: 11 Oct 2005 11:36 PM PDT

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your advice this far.

My biggest problem is I do not have Winbdows 2003. I got the ok for
Exchange 2003 with 25 CALs which has just come through.
We had one NT4 server and three four windows 2000 servers. I have basically
been told to use what servers we have due to cost.

Therefore I need the current es5.5 upgraded to 2003 on the same server it is
on.

Original Network

Server1 - NT4 PDC - Dell dual p3 500Mhz
Server2 - Win 2000 Server with Exchange 5.5 - Dell dual Xeon 2Ghz
Server3 - Win 2000 Server - File server - Dell dual p3 500Mhz
Server4 - Win 2000 Server - Dell dual p3 700Mhz (Original Exchange before
last upgrade)
Server5 - Win 2000 Server - Dell 3Ghz

Done so far

I have installed NT4 on Server5 with service pack6 as BDC, then promoted to
PDC.
Upgraded Server5 to Windows 2000 Server global catalogue, new domain in new
forest.
Tested ADC install on Server5 which passed all tests ok but did not
complete.

Desired outcome

Server2 - Win 2000 Server - Exchange 2003, OWA - Dell dual Xeon 2Ghz
Server5 - Win 2000 Server as Active Directory PDC and global catalogue -
Dell 3Ghz

I see two options

Migrate to Exchange 2000 first onto Server5 and then migrate back to Server2
as exchange 2003

Or

Install Exchange Server 2003 on Server5 joining the existing Exchange 5.5
site and use the move mailbox method.

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=822942

- You can perform an in-place upgrade from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003;
however, an in-place upgrade from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2003 is
not supported.

To upgrade from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange Server 2003, you must join
an Exchange 2003 computer to the Exchange 5.5 site, and then move Exchange
resources such as mailboxes to the Exchange 2003 computer. Use the Exchange
Server Deployment Tools to migrate from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003.
Although Exchange 2000 did support in-place upgrades from Exchange 5.5,
moving the resources from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 is still the
recommended upgrade path.

I would prefer not to do an in place upgrade,

1 - the drive us partitioned too many times and I want to reformat first
2 - dont really trust the roll back options if anything goes wrong

I have done a lot of readin and there are numerous options. If you could
help advise which route is the best I am sure I will be fine fomr there.

Thanks again.
Jess

Absolutley they will. SP2 will support the features described (The CP
release remains feature-incomplete) when coupled with 2005 mobile
devices. 2003 mobiles will be fine (and are, I'm using it from my
device)

that is not an option

basiacally waht we have is 120 totally seperate domains that are really
seperate companies - they have to use nt due to app dependencies

there mail is hosted on a central site - this is AD - 2003 with exchange 2003

they need to be able to open outlook without user prompt - ie pass the
password through
i assume this means lower some security on the central AD domain - i know
this is incorrect but that is what is dictated .
any changes to remote places is not an option

Mail missing from SMTP queue

I was wondering. I know we can track the message by message tracking center,
but then I was thinking, if the message was sent from the client to the
server and the server didn't received it, or it just past through the server
without going into the SMTP queue. How do we track it ?
