Identification of software key for Office 2004 install

Hi Bob:

Yes, sort-of. If you look in the Application menu for the About item and
display that, it will display the Product ID to you.

If you find two machines on which all but the last five digits match, the
same key was used on those two machines.

It won't tell you "which" key was used, just that the "same" key was used.

Cheers

Illegal handling of Greek Characters in Speller (Office 2008)

Posted: 03 Feb 2008 10:45 AM PST

Thanks for the try.

I am sure that this is a bug in these two apps. It is correct that the
language is applied to the whole doc but this is not the problem.
Try the following. Write a few greek words in an excel sheet (i hope
you can) like the ones in the list (ðÜëé, ððð Ýíáò). Calling the
speller, the words containing greek letter pi (ð) presented with only
the pi letter in the spell dialog. All other characters are missing.
The word with three pi (ððð) appears correctly. This means that excel
passes only pi from greek chars to the speller. If the greek word
contains two nonconsecutive pi then the speller presents the first as
unknown word and then the second as a different unknown word
considering the characters between the two pi as space chars. If
instead of greek chars you put english chars between two
nonconsecutive pi then the whole word is correctly passed to speller
and handled normally.
In Entourage not even the pi is passed to speller. Greek chars
considered as empty space.

PS to my own (which I actually tried to cancel):

While there are free scripts out there, this question has a lot of
different variations and issues that you could run into that would take
a lot of time to work around, so it's probably worth just biting the
bullet and paying for MacLinkPlus (that Michel linked), which is a more
extensive program that should already have taken all these issues into
account.

3. Click on the icon for your boot volume.
4. Click the repair permissions button.

Don't run from CD. Updates contain a newer versions of the application's

Thanks so much, Matt!

Alas, to the best of my knowledge we haven't added any funky utilities that I'm aware of; I'll have to check when I'm back in the office. And I know we aren't running any virus-check utilities—though we probably should start thinking about it again at this point.

Ah, well! Perhaps someone has added something without my knowing! I'll have to check the processes and see if there's anything odd running.

Again, thanks for your help!

If you expose the server through your firewall, you can do this. You need to
open the port for the website (80 by default). When connecting, the users will

When you say that you "actually have the finish date set", do you mean
that you entered a date by which you want your project to end? If this
is so, then that's what's causing your problems. The point of
scheduling software like MS Project is to tell you, given the amount
of work and number of resources you say you have, when you WILL
finish. If you tell it when you MUST finish, then you essentially
hamstring the software. It becomes basically a spreadsheet.

Hi Ken,

I've no idea! Try resetting the Gantt Chart view EXACTLY the same as when
you created the arrows - same timescale, same date, same tasks.

OneNote: Add capability to IE to capture a web page in OneNote

Download the latest upgrades to OneNote. This will give you the capacity to
do Screen Clippings.
With OneNote open, all you have to do is press the Windows Logo button and
S. Drag what you want, and it will dump it into OneNote.

How do I create a project without actual dates? (where every mont.

Posted: 06 Sep 2004 02:37 AM PDT

Using elapsed time will allow you to specify your task durations themselves
in terms of equal length 30 day months. The Gantt chart time scale though
is a real civil or fiscal calendar so its months are their actual lengths
even when you display the labels as months from start. If month 1 begins 1
Sep, month 2 starts 1 Oct and month 3 starts 1 Nov and the labels read Month
1, Month 2, Month 3. Since this is a proposal and the durations you list
are going to be very very rough order-of-magnitude approximations until you
develop the actual WBS anyway, does it really matter if the timescale months
are slightly unequal? Would using weeks instead of months in the timescale
solve the problem if it is?

Week1, Week2...(from end)

Posted: 03 Sep 2004 01:09 PM PDT

Rod:
Thanks a lot! this worked fine. I had not considered that the week start day
would make a dofference.

In regards to you suggestions, I really appreciate it.
In reality, what I am doing is to lay-out a standard process where different
Departments are involved, so in fact I initiated the plan from start (as you
suggest) to find out what the standard timing would be every time the same
process is repeated. After I had all the tasks and lead-times figured out,
that's when I was switching the format so it doesn't go by dates but by weeks
before the main event, which is Pilot run (this is when I got the problem).
This way, every time someone follows this process, they know how many weeks
in advance they need to start and also when they need to do what. Until
today, this process was inconsistent and events happend as people
"remembered". You can imagine how bad the results were. Things are getting
better!
Thanks again,

Enterprise Tasks Codes

Posted: 02 Sep 2004 04:12 PM PDT

Mark E --

I misunderstood what you meant by "Project Portfolio" in your original
question. I thought you were referring to the Project Center views. Sorry.

To answer your questions, only custom Project outline codes and custom
Resource outline codes appear as dimensions in the Portfolio Analyzer. If
you are using custom Project or Resource fields such as Text, Cost, etc.,
they will not appear. You must use custom Project and Resource outline
codes instead. Hope this helps.

Microsoft Word - smart graphics with protection

Microsoft Word - smart graphics with protection

smart graphics with protection

Posted: 12 Jul 2013 06:13 AM PDT

Dear Colleagues,

I created a form and included the Smart Art with a Nondirectional cycle. In order have the users open the document to complete the form fields, it was saved as a protected template. But the user can not enter data in the Smart Art. Is it possible that data cannot be entered in Smart Art when the file it protected?

Please advise. Thanks.

Setting the cursor position on Open

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 03:47 PM PDT

I am seeing several documents that consistently open to seemingly random locations in the file rather than the Home position.  One of the files had some bookmarks.  We created a new version of the file and removed them, and the behavior resolved.  The other does not contain bookmarks or cross references,  but cursor returns to mid document nonetheless.

I don't see any kind of autoexec macro, (can they be hidden?) that goes to last edit point and would be surprised if any of the authors or editors of the document knew of such magical things.

Suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

Heading in MS Word 2010 makes the text jump page

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 10:39 AM PDT

I'm using the heading feature in MS Word 2010 and most of my headings work perfectly. However, one heading in particular (Heading 4) makes the text of the entire paragraph jump to the next page. There is plenty of room for the text on the existing page, so I'm confused. I've right-clicked on the paragraph, selected "Paragraph", went to the "Line and Page Breaks" tab, and made sure that "Page break before" and "Keep with next" are both unchecked. Please help!

Permanent "Can't Undo/Redo"

Posted: 11 Jul 2013 08:53 AM PDT

My Undo and Redo buttons in the trial version of Word 2013 I have installed are constantly grayed out and unselectable and the keyboard commands do not work. When I begin to type the Undo button becomes selectable, but if I mouse over to the buttons or wait longer than a few seconds (or as soon as I hit ctrl+z) Undo and Redo go grey  and nothing happens to my document.

This is making Word unusable for me. Please help!

Best,
Toby

Apparent downgrade of Office Applications

We used to have MS Word 2007 with features such as tracking - now we have a more basic version 2010 Starter. Same with Excel. How come we've been downgraded?

Help! Where's 'ignore all' and 'Add to dictionary'?

Posted: 10 Jul 2013 04:43 PM PDT

Hi,

I just started using Word 2013 and, for check spell, there are no options to "ignore all" or "Add to Dictionary".  What's going on? I only see "ignore".

Thanks,

Rusty

Styleref field is ignoring tables - how do I make it search them too?

Posted: 08 Jul 2013 05:55 AM PDT

I have a rather large document that consists mainly of a huge table containing various levels of legal text. I want to have the main article number listed in the header of each page. I've added a particular style for this and started formatting the appropriate table text with it.

I've added a StyleRef field to the header, which works for anything outside the table, but returns an error when only text inside the table is matching ("Error! No text with this style found" or something to that effect). The logical conclusion is that StyleRef fields are ignoring content of tables, and I need to reverse that somehow.

Any ideas? I should probably say I'm fairly new to Word 2010, so any arcane instructions would need to be a little spelled out probably ;)

How to change second-level form of bullets

Posted: 07 Jul 2013 08:58 AM PDT

I have a list that has bullets (circles that are entirely black). Under one of these points, I want to put a second-level bullet (I thought a circle that was white inside would appear). Instead, the bullet for that item is full black, just like the first-level items. Now I saw in Word how to change the form of bullets, but when I changed the form of that second-level item, all the other bullets changed as well. I was sure that Word would automatically provide a different form for these second-level items, just like on a numbered list, they go from Hindu-Arabic to Roman numerals, to letters.

How can I get Word to do this?
