This is my first help question ever.  When I pull up a Word document, change it and then try to resave with a new name, the program closes down but tells me first they will notify me with a solution.  No solution has come to me.  I am now having problems with my Excel program.  I can not open and then resave it.  I have Office Home and Business 2010.

microsoft office starter vanished from my programs

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 08:29 PM PST

My computer came preloaded with microsoft office 2010. I  have a toshiba with windows 7. I had the computer 1 year. I finally wen't to use microsoft office a window came up. I clicked on microsoft office starter, it said it was already preinstalled on my computer. I granted changes to microsoft to finish installtion of 2010?  although it was already on my computer. Eventually office 2010 starter opened. I used it for a document and closed it. Later I tried to use it again. When I clicked on office 2010 it states microsoft officer starter 2010 is already installed on my computer. It says to click on all programs at the start menu and it should be there, but it isn't. Microsoft excel starter is though. What happened to the microsoft office starter that was pre-installed on my computer. I'm so tired of buying expensive computers that come preloaded with microsoft this or that but the programs always stop working  or you have to purchase them again through microsoft.
Thanks

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 10:12 AM PST

When adding shapes in a Word doc, how do I get the shape layout to move with the image if I resize the picture or move it?

For example, I take a screenshot of a paragraph from a website. I then highlight a sentence using a circle, but then resize the screenshot but the circle does not keep its place. Which option or how do I get it to stay in its place?

Fixing Paragraphs Indents How To?

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 08:30 AM PST

I have documents where the paragraphs are indented. I want to flush it all to the right. However, when I do this it does not work with select all, paragraph align left . I am using the backspace or delete space button to get the sentence to move over to the left. It's time consuming. Is their a way to do this all at once for the entire document?
Here is an example of what I want to fix.

In issuing the injunction, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan ordered Chevron to post a $21.8 million bond.
Though he noted that the Lago Agrio plaintiffs, or LAPs, would have preferred a bond with at least four more digits, Kaplan said bonds are not meant to secure judgment collection.
"It is simply to protect the LAP representatives against any injury they may suffer if they are enjoined for a period from seeking to enforce that judgment and the injunction ultimately proves to have been inappropriate - in other words, to ensure payment of any damages caused by the delay in enforcement," he wrote.
The 2nd Circuit struck this injunction down in September 2011 and called it "radical" in a January 2012 opinion.
About a month later, Patton Boggs filed a federal complaint against Chevron in New Jersey, saying that Kaplan's orders "incapacitated" it from trying to enforce the judgment for their clients in Ecuador, whom the firm names in court papers as "los Afectados," Spanish for the Affected Ones.

this sample is multi-monitor aware, which means that if the monitor on which

This requires using the following Win32 APIs (from User32.dll):

WINDOWPLACEMENT: To store window size, location, and state (see

GetWindowPlacement: To retrieve the current WINDOWPLACEMENT data for the

Word 2003 - "File Conversion - ~$FMaker" Add-in Template is not valid. (C:\ Program Files\...\~$FMaker.dot). Windows XP

Posted: 26 Dec 2012 06:18 AM PST

Hello.

When I open Word 2003, I get the following:
"File Conversion - ~$FMaker"  with a list of 3 choices: Windows (default), MS Dos, Other.  Other is checked and Japanese (shift-JIS) is higlighted (not by me).

The sample box below still shows english letters but not in the right format. Changing to Windows (default) does or selecting another language in Other does nothing.

Clicking on OK, it then says, "The add-in Template is not valid. (C:\ Program Files\...\~$FMaker.dot).

Initially when this occurred, I could create, read and save files but not print - printing comes out with nothing but strange characters.  Today, I am still getting the message when I open Word but printing is normal.

I am using Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3.   No problems with Excel at all  Thank you for your suggestions!

I don't plan on printing this document, so the difficulty of fitting it all within the dimensions of a physical sheet of paper is not an issue. How do I set up my document to work like this?

I can type documents in Word but it won't open docx files and when I try to save new files in Word they wouldn't open. I did a diagnostic and it said to install updates. I did and now when I open word this message appears "application version does not match." I did second diagnostics and it found no problems. After the update I can open docx but only by right clicking and choosing "open with" and choosing Word. The icons look like note pads instead of regular Word icons.

Generating documents by populating a database / form

Posted: 20 Dec 2012 04:08 AM PST

Hi folks

I'm not sure of the best way to go about this.  Basically, what I'm trying to do is find a way whereby a user can fill in a pre-defined form, which will then generate a number of sub-documents on the basis of the data entered into the form.

I have the templates of the documents that I want populated, but I'm not sure of the best way to link them to the form.

I was thinking of having the form consist of bookmarked text form fields, which could be filled in and then linked to the relevant parts of the sub-documents.  But my problem with this is, I could set it up initially, but when I wanted to create a new set of documents, I'd have to copy the form and then redirect all the new sub-documents to the location of the new form.  So, I don't know if this is the right way to go about doing this, or if I should be looking at mail merges or some kind of combination of processes.

The people that are looking for this are very specific about what they want - and they basically want to fill out the form and let magic take care of the rest.

I would appreciate any help or thoughts!

Thanks

Rodney, Whether a mistaken post or not, I figure you have earned the right
after all the years you have been helping out in this newsgroup. I am a
holdover from the days of Works 4.5 when you, Omar, Kevin and others used to
twist and wring every last bit of functionality out of the software and
share your results here. I still use Works daily, and have used Works on a
DOS, ME, 95 and 98se machine, and finally broke down this year and bought an
XP machine. I dread the day that Microsoft produces an operating system that
would not allow me to use 4.5.

As Microsoft changed the focus of Works, and this NG has evolved into a more
general NG with more OT questions from newbies, I have been glad to see new
folks such as Erik and Ken step up to help out the MVPs and other regular
posters. I also don't want to put down, or be 'mean' to folks like Craig who
have good intentions, but are sometimes less than helpful. We were all
newbies at one point, and should not be chided for ignorance of how these
newsgroups work or the occasional OT post given the gamut of software now
included in the Works Suite. In my opinion this is a place to learn, and
everyone should be encourged to participate...even Craig. I meant no
disrespect.

Anyway, I will continue to look for your posts and tips, and....which NG
does this other DavidF post in? With a name like that, he must be pretty
sharp <grin>. later...DavidF

CLIP OF ART PROBLEM!! HELP!

Posted: 06 Jul 2004 05:31 PM PDT

Hi Nancy,

To insert "any picture", then use Insert>Picture.

Browse to the file you require.

In Works 7, to insert ClipArt, you have the option of loading ClipArt
direct from the Works CD, to save hard disc (HD) space.

You may also, if space is not an issue, load the ClipArt onto your
HD and thereafter load ClipArt direct from the HD, saving time.

Copy the file: Wksv7std.sbs from the CDROM to your hard disc.
When asked, you can redirect Works to this new location.

You need to do a File, Save As to a format that other programs can use.

CSV (Comma Separated Values) text file can be read by any spreadsheet, data base or word
processing program. However, this will have just the data and none of the formatting.

You might also try a dBase format (DBF). Most data base programs can read this and it
contains some of the formatting.

2 (or More) MSCRM's talking to each other

Posted: 03 Feb 2004 07:36 PM PST

Thanks John, but I was thinking of the MSCRM's being on
different domains. Ported entities may not work across
different domains though because the owner of the record
wouldnt exist in domain #2.

Still, if anyone has looked into something like this I
would appreciate further feedback.

Hello,

Depend on the version you got.
Version 1.2 beta has its license on page 124 of the implementation
guide, also in chapter for Sample database.

But, this version, just for the bicycle company, and license works
till dec-31-03, yes! it has expired. So... it´s up to you to find the
workarround.

good luck.

Banking

Posted: 03 Feb 2004 04:41 PM PST

Hal,

What exactly do you want to import from those files? The financial
data that would be in one of these files doesn't really fit into any
of the objects in CRM.

Bottom line though, you will need to use the SDK to write a routine to
update CRM. How you get the data out of the file file is up to you.

CRM Install and Config exam

Posted: 03 Feb 2004 02:32 PM PST

I feel your pain. It took me two tries on the I&C exam and I'm prep'g
for my third attack on Customization. Definately do better after I've
done it on our CRM system. On partnersource there is a guide that kind
of summarizes the topics tested.

https://www.greatplains.com/partnersource/communities/cpp/preparation/CRM_Install_prep.htm
(you'll need login credentials)

Generally, though you've learned alot about timing and level of detail
in your first two attempts. Use this to your advantage.

Good Luck

Try restarting the sql server. For somereason just publishing and
restarting IIS does not work, you have to restart the sql server as well.
This works fine for me

Microsoft Word - Issue with Microsoft Starter 2010

Issue with Microsoft Starter 2010

Posted: 25 Dec 2012 08:25 AM PST

The last couple of days Microsoft Starter 2010 has on it's own started changing text format sizes. None of the sizes it adjusts to are the correct text sizes. It also now has a scroll bar on the bottom forcing me to make sure the page is centered before typing. I never had either of these issues before. How do I correct them? If they can't be corrected will downloading the full version of Office Home resolve the issue?

No ending quotes, then double quites

Posted: 24 Dec 2012 04:27 PM PST

Opening quotation marks are working fine. When I type the close quote nothing happens until I enter the quotation mark a second time. Then 2 appear side by side. I need to backspace to clear the unneeded quotation mark. I am using Windows 2010 on a Dell Inspirion with Windows 7.

Extra lines have appeared in my 600+ page document.  One minute, all OK, and then suddenly...Instead of:

I have:

word 2007 crashes when trying to use SAVE or SAVE as and keep asking if I want to restart programe and restore. I do that but get "unspecified error" message at the completion of the exercise

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 05:18 PM PST

why does Save and Save As fail and goes out to "automatic restart the computer and return", spend time finding a solution and come back with the message "unspecified error" at the end of the exercise, with the same problem recurring?

Microsoft Word 2007 does not allow page numbers to appear on the printed sheet. Is there any way of overcoming this extremely irritating problem?

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 10:52 AM PST

Microsoft weirdly set the printing default so as NOT to be able to print page numbers in a document.  Equally, they provide NO indication how to overcome this fundamental error!

Office 2007 Paragraph function slow to open and respond

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 07:42 AM PST

In the last couple of days, I have had trouble with the paragraph function loading smoothly, regardles of whether I am using the dropdown menu on the Word home page, or using the right click button on my mouse.  When it eventually loads the paragraph box and I make my changes and click okay, it again takes it a long time (say 10-15 seconds) to responf.  Also I will hear a wavering  high pitched whine through my monitor speakers during this process.  Anybody have any ideas of what might be causing this and how to fix?  Maybe reload office software?
