Why does Office10 mso.dll file get installed on an Office11 system?

Posted: 27 Apr 2004 10:11 PM PDT

> There was nothing to rev. Office 2003 is the only version of Office that

Actually, I meant on our side of the fence. Some Office 10 components
didn't really get rev'ed for Office 11 (e.g. some applet help files) and
it's remotely possible that some of the code pointed to the old MSO. Not
especially likely, I agree.

I think we might be talking about different things. Regardless of Office
automation, Visual Studio itself uses a version of MSO to render its
toolbars or some such thing. Since MSOs are not interchangeable, it seems
unlikely that it could itself call into ~both~ MSO11 and MSO10.

That is rather stupid advice and it won't work anyway. Under the OEM
agreement the manufacturer is totally responsible for the software. MS won't
help you at all. Your fraud won't work anyway...the software is generally
BIOS locked to the motherboard. The problem is he is trying to use a

Some suggestions for you:

1. Uninstall Office 2003 and XP(if it is on your machine) from Add/Remove

2. Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D
5E1BD/msicuu2.exe
3. Run the utility and remove the Office(XP and 2003) entry from the list.
4. Reinstall Office 2003 and re-apply the latest update for it.

For more information about the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, please
refer to the following KB article: 290301 Description of the Windows

compared to Mandrake for a workstation--stable enough, but it's got some
serious borkage going on with the package manager. If you're tech savvy
enough to install apt-get and synaptic, go for it. Mandrake and Suse will
automatically mount your windows partition at /mnt/windows :) But Redhat's

Yes, but it's not trivial. For RedHat, I think you'd have to merge the
contents of the CD's into a single directory with all the CD labeling .files
in place, then create a new ISO image with all of that material and the boot
image appropriately marked for booting, burn that to DVD, and when the
installation asks for the next CD, just hit "Enter" and it will find its
next CD contents on the same DVD.

Want to dual-boot Windows2K Pro and RH 9?

On Wed, 03 Mar 2004 03:56:47 +0000, Bill Weissborn wrote:

I see the post by Andy Fraser, and that has good information. You should
definitely look those documents over. Red Hat has had a link called
"understanding what you are doing." This is a good policy to save
time and mis-steps/mistakes.

Generally, I would say you are on the right track. Save any files you
need from the 10G drive as preparation for it to be reformatted to ext2 or
ext3 for use with Red Hat. To clarify, linux needs a native partition
type to install, and NTFS does not fit that requirement.

Back to dual boot issues:
Generally, I recommend grub for the loader for use with Windows/Linux.
I like it installed at the MBR on the primary disk. Check the manual and
the FAQ here:
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/index.html
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/grub-faq.en.html

If you keep Win2k as primary master IDE drive, then minimal tricks are
required to boot either windows or linux. Probably, this will be
built for you when you setup linux, in grub.conf:

title Windows 2000
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1

There will be another stanza which loads linux. Note: the stanza I have
shown above makes assumptions about the partitioning on your 40G drive
which may not be correct. Be careful that the only change on your
40G drive is to the MBR loader- don't damage your windows partition(s)
during your RH install.

Ask more questions as you go along, if necessary.

framebuffer-questions; fbdev for 1600x1200???

Posted: 02 Mar 2004 11:00 AM PST

I tried

knoppix screen=1600x1200 xmodule=nv

It produces the same result as

knoppix screen=1600x1200

And the /etc-files say that also in the latter case the module nv
is chosen. So the detection of the video card seems o.k.,
although during the start it reports (shown for a short time)
that an NVidia Quadro4 550 GoGL was detected.
It should be 500 GoGL.
I'm not sure, whether this card (550 GoGL) exists (it is not
contained in the list of cards given in the expert mode).
So it just may be a typo.

It seems that the problem is not solvable for knoppix.
The fbdev or vesafb doesn't support 1600x1200,
the module nv produces the distortion as already explained:
It looks as if an output with 1280 pixels per line is displayed
on 1600 pixels per line: each line is displaced a bit compared
to the prior.

However, I hope that the problem doesn't occur with Red Hat,
which I'll try in some weeks. Or are the basic drivers the same
for all distributions?

Thanks so far,
Norbert

Hi,

That unfortunately is not a feature. Logical, since many tasks can have two
or more successors, other tasks may have no sucessors at all, so there is
not necessarily just one "the next in the order"
If you have a field that will determine the order you want to see, go to
Project, Sort, Sort by...
You probably will have to cross out "keep outline structure" and if so, you
shall also have to go to Tools, Options, View, and cross out "show summary
tasks".

How to manage tasks payment terms ?

Posted: 29 Apr 2004 09:46 AM PDT

You both have and haven't missed something. Project costs and your accounts
payable and receivable issues are two entirely different things. Project
tracks the former in order to help you estimate the project budget. It
tracks the accrual point to facilitate validation of the budget, estimating
cash flow requirements, and tracking progress against schedule and budget
through earned value analysis. The basic question it seeks to answer is
"how much will this cost our firm and does the ROI justify the expense?"
But it does not pretend to manage, nor in my opinion should one attempt to
use it, to track payables and receivables. Thats the job of an accounting
system, not a project management system. The budget is when the obligation
to pay is accrued, if you will, not when you actually write the check. I
may do a task today that I won't pay for until next week. Or I may have to
pay for a component in advance even though it won't be delivered until next
month. But the budget is hit with the cost today as I do the work or the
component is used - the money is effectively spent during the performance of
the work even though I may still have the funds in the bank for another
period of time or have released them before the work begins.

i need your urget help

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 04:51 PM PDT

Ruthie --

The process of estimating both Duration values and Work values is a bit
tricky. In fact, I refer to these values as "guesstimates" since I do both
"guessing" and "esimating" to come up with a number.

The Project Management Institute (PMI) recommends a "best practice" that
wherever possible, estimates should come from the team members who will
actually perform the work. I think you can see why this would be a "best
practice" in the estimation process:

1. You will draw upon the work experience of people who have performed the
task previously, which could make their estimate more reliable
2. You get "buy-in" from the person
3. Resources are more likely to report accurate progress on tasks in which
they provided the estimate

Therefore, in your scenario, I really can't tell you whether your Duration
estimates are accurate. Instead, I would recommend that you speak with your
team members and ask them for their estimates. If you cannot do this, then
I would recommend you speak with people who have worked on tasks like those
in the past. Hope this helps.

Overallocated Resources

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 04:36 PM PDT

K. Bolton --

A resource overallocation occurs when a resource is schedule for more work
than they are available to perform in any time period, including as little
as a 15-minute time period. To determine where your resource
overallocations are occurring in your project plan, apply the Resource Usage
view, examine the overallocated resources and the time periods in which the
overallocations are occurring. You can also zoom in to smaller time periods
to see overallocations that occur in less than a full working day time
period. Hope this helps.

Ongoing Items on Gantt Chart

Posted: 28 Apr 2004 04:18 PM PDT

Hi Nicole,

Sorry but PMS Project is all about Projects.
Projects by definition have a start and an end, and all tasks are planned to
have a start and an end date.
Training never stops, but for instance "The 2004 program for Management
Development" does, it has tasks that are linked together, dates top respect,
resources to plan...

Activities with no start and no end cannot be planned in Project.
If you really need to show some, make them for instance "Training through
2005" which has start and en dates.

Cannot sent to AOL e-mail addresses

AOL postmasters have implemented strict spam filters. If your server's
RDNS is not matching or non-existant, or if your server's SMTP EHLO banner
identifies itself as "domain.local", AOL will reject or destroy your mail.

Using your ISP's smart host SMTP relay may help.

Good friggin luck. I have been dealing with this D@MN
thing for 3 weeks now. Here is the skinny. Reboot the PC
in safe mode. Remove the virus from
HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Run and
delete any entery that is RunService.

Check C:\Winnt\System32\ for a file calles vstkmgr.exe and
delete this mother.
You can try this removal tool from Symantec. I have had
minor success with it.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32
..gaobot.removal.tool.html

I then reboot the computer in safe mode with network
support and go to:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
and scan my computer.

THis was the only way that I was able to clean these PC.

Exchange 2003 Architecture

Posted: 13 May 2004 04:21 PM PDT

Mark,
Thanks for the reply. I understand that the Empty Forest Root design is
not a guarantee but merely an additional security hoop for them to jump
through. We plan on closely monitoring and protecting the Root domain
accounts. They are not able to just jump in and modify the Forest schema
without notifying us and getting us to do it. If there is any Forest Prep
being run, we will be the one running it, not them. I understand that there
are some creative ways to elevating permissions but they are not that
advanced in skill.

I have already run Forest Prep in all 3 domains for our upcoming
Exchange 2003 upgrade. Why would they need to run it?

Thanks,
Fred

Move Mailbox question

Yes the ADC should replicate the data on Groups and COntacts to your Windows
directory from the 5.5 server.
You should be able to check by using the Active Directory Users and Computer
on the Exchange Server, and looking for one of the groups or contacts.

Time of Setup for an Exchange account when setup from AD

Posted: 11 May 2004 02:01 PM PDT

UPDATE--
Our team spoke with Microsoft yesterday and they had us rebuild the RUS and then update it. We then ran diagnostics on the Exchange Server and within about 15 mins we went back to Active Directory and the user accounts were updated with the Exchange attributes
----- TomB wrote: ----

Our netowork is on the smaller side.We only have one back end exchange server set up in a cluster and one front end server set up for OWA/OMA/ & blackberry services. Locally we have 2 Domain Controllers, They synch over the wan to 6 other locations with their own Domain Controllers. We have less then 300 Users on our Network in Total and bewteen 30-40 Servers in total across our Whole network. Replication between th Dc's seems to complete between every 20-25 min. However As previously stated it takes forever for the email account to be created
Nick stated
You can speed up the process by requesting the Recipient Update Servic
instance for the domain to update. It is found in System Manager, unde
Recipients. Right click the RUS for the domain and select Update

I will try again I believe we did try this to no avail, thoughts? Also based on what I have stated in this reply can anyone fathom a guesstimate on how long it should take with forcing the RUs for email creation to happen

Exchange Server 2003 Site VS AD Site

Posted: 11 May 2004 01:26 PM PDT

Okay great.

I have two more questions though regarding this.

Even though sites are not important there is still a submenu for them in the
E2K3 MMC Snap in... So what's it for?

Now for the real question. I have a forest that's made of 3 domains in 3
different geographical locations (1 domain per office).

root.com hosts the main E2K3 server, alpha.root.com and beta.root.com will
also host an E2K3 server. The name of mail domain however is root.com so no
matter in which domain a user is, his mail adress will always be
com. Will the root.com E2K3 servers in the alpha.root.com and
beta.root.com cause any problems? Is there anything else I should consider?

thanks

Sending file shortcuts

Posted: 11 May 2004 10:58 AM PDT

I do know how to send a hyper link. I used to be able to
insert a file, and choose insert as shortcut. It would
show up the same way a shortcut shows up on your desktop
(ie looks like a file, but directs you to a file on the
server).

Any thoughts?

OWA will not display certain messages

Paul,

I read article 309677 and looked for the file it refers to
and our Microsoft Windows Server 2003 does not have that
file. We only have one user that can't see their emails
using OWA but can when using Outlook on his local
machine. Would you recommend that we save his current
Outlook into a .pst file, eliminate his user from the
server and recreate it from scratch and import his .pst
file. We are stuck and this is happening to one of the
owners of the company -so you can imagine we need to get
it fixed quickly.

Thanks!

Advanced Microsoft Exchange 2003 questions (POP3/SMTP/SPAM)

It could be the solution you are looking for. Take a look at the online
manual since there is a small section that describes the connector and some
of its caveats. (looks like you can get a 30 day eval via the download
option.)

The sizes that show up under the mailbox storage group in
the ESM are not what is in the PRIV1.STM file. They do
not total up to the size of the PRIV1.STM. We need more
information about the PRIV1.STM file.

Second exchange 2003 srv

Posted: 11 May 2004 04:28 AM PDT

yes that is correct you want to create a mailbox store for each site and put
the users from that site on their local exchange server.
depending on the link speed you might need to put the servers on different
storage groups and setup a rounting group connector so the two servers can
communicate.

yes, you cannot upgrade from 5.5. to 2003, however you can upgrade to 2k and
then upgrade to 2003. if the 5.5 server has nothing of value, might be
easier to wipe it out and load exchange 2003.

problems with DNS

Posted: 11 May 2004 01:56 AM PDT

You haven't said who's DNS server you are using... If it is yours (in
house) then I'd suspect a configuration error. If it is outside, there
may well be problems with that domain's connectivity.

You don't say where you are located, but if you are a ways
(physically) from the site there may be routing issues.
