Word 2013 won't start even in safe mode. No error messages. Posted: 18 Nov 2014 02:53 PM PST I set up a new laptop running Windows 8.1 two days ago, and installed Office yesterday. Word worked fine yesterday but when I try to start it today, nothing happens. I've tried rebooting and starting Word in safe mode, and also compatibility troubleshooting, but no luck yet. There are no error messages and I can't find any logged events or errors. I would rather avoid uninstalling / re-installing. Can anyone help? |
Merging Documents with Endnotes Posted: 18 Nov 2014 02:22 PM PST Hi, all, I have been trying to combine several word documents using Word 2010 and am having no success. I have seven .docx files, several of which have end notes, that I want to combine into a single document. I wish for the end notes to appear at the end of each document with the numbers starting at 1 with each document. After inserting all seven documents using the 'Text from File' option, I then entered Page breaks at the end of each of the documents. After, I right-clicked on one of the Endnotes to ensure that the option for Endnotes was set to "End of section" and applied all of the document. Unfortunately, however, all of the Endnotes still appear at the end of the document. Could someone please explain what precisely to do and why I am having these issues? I have spen over four hours online searching for a solution and trying new ideas. Thanks! |

Word 2010 - Hyperlinks to a location in the same document stop working Posted: 18 Nov 2014 01:25 PM PST I'm a Business Analyst who documents requirements for changes to our systems. In my requirements documents I often create hyperlinks to other locations within my document. For example, in the requirements area of my document I might add a hyperlink to Business Rules or a mock up within the same document that apply to the topic I have writing about. I have found that the hyperlinks to locations in the same document stop working and I can't figure out how to fix them. I've Edited the hyperlink, removed and readded them. But noting works. When I click on a hyperlink I get an message "Opening <path\filename> Some files can contain viruses or otherwise......" Most of the time I am adding a hyperlink to another section within the document, but I also will add a bookmark and then create a hyperlink to the bookmark. I add hyperlinks by: 1) right-clicking my mouse at the desired location which launches a list of options 2) Select hyperlink 3) Choose Place in This Document 4) select the section or bookmark and click OK. The hyperlink will usually work after I first create it but later when I open the file they no longer work. I either get the above mentioned message or the system will display the title page instead of going to the section of the document that I want it to. |
creating an IF THEN ELSE merge field that contains supporting text? Posted: 18 Nov 2014 11:17 AM PST I have strung together three merge fields with some supporting text: «DEGREE_CODE1» «DEGREE_YEAR1» UB «SCHOOL1» («MAJOR1») When I execute the merge, it looks something like this: BA 1976 UB School of Social Sciences (Philosophy) However, if the fields are blank, it returns this: UB () If the fields are blank, I'd like it to suppress the line entirely. How do I build the IF THEN ELSE statement? Or should I be doing something else? Thanks! |
Posted: 18 Nov 2014 09:59 AM PST I know you can search Bing directly from Word by clicking review>research, but how do I get the images results? It would be so much easier to type something in, copy the image, and paste it without leaving Word. Any ideas? Help is appreciated. |
Font size variation in Windows Tech Preview compared to Windows 7 Posted: 18 Nov 2014 09:22 AM PST I routinely use the Tahoma font in Word 2007 selecting Bold and font size 10. I have been using this continuously in Windows 7 (ongoing project). However, when doing exactly the same thing in Windows Technical Preview, the type is noticeably smaller even though it is the same Tahoma Bold font size 10. Can anyone suggest a reason for this and a possibly solution. Increasing the font size to 11 or 12 when using Word while running Technical Preview does not really work. Please do not suggest updating to Word 2010 or 2013 as I am completely happy with my Word 2007. I simply want an answer to my question eather than well intentioned "advice" to update |
Microsoft Office 2010 does not show track changes sent via Email Posted: 18 Nov 2014 07:25 AM PST Hi All, I have someone sent me an attachment of .docx file with track changes. I opened the attachment but no track change displayed. I am using Office 2010. When trying to accept the track changes anyway it says There is no Track change on that document. But the sender sent me a screenshot of the document with the track changes displayed from their end. If I forward same document to someone else, they cannot see the track change either. It looks like the only person who can see the track change is the sender. I can make track change on the same document and send it to another person, they can see the changes I made. Please advise. Thank you! |

Posted: 18 Nov 2014 06:55 AM PST Split from this thread. I have someone sending me a Word document .docx who can see the track changes from their side. When I receive it and open it, there is no track change. None. When I click "Accept" gives me "The document contains no comments or tracked changes". If I made track changes on it and send it to another user, they can see only the changes I made, not the original that supposed to be there. The only person who can see the track changes is the original sender. I could not see it and if I forward to another person, the could not see it either. Please help. |

MS Word 2010 Freezes Every Few Minutes Posted: 18 Nov 2014 02:53 AM PST I have seen a lot of threads about this but no proper answers. Just installed Office 2010, and having problems. MS Word 2010 freezes every 3-4minutes
This is the EventVwr entry The program WINWORD.EXE version 14.0.7134.5000 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel. I have seen some other posts about this, but the steps listed there (turning off AutoSave, problem Macros, for example) do not work or apply for me. Any help much appreciated.

Recovering Deleted Clipboard Items in MS Word 2010 Posted: 17 Nov 2014 08:27 PM PST I lost about 13 pages of text today on the MS Word 2010 clipboard. After being prompted with the save function, when originally exiting the application, I did not save the items attached to the clipboard. I did not have the "save backup file" radio button selected in the advanced options of the application. Due to this mistake, I believe MS Word did not save the current text file to the third party file application Dropbox. There was a deleted version of the file within the recycling bin, but after recovering the file I still do not have the most recent 14 page file I was working on. Is there anyway I can recover these items from the clipboard? Thanks |
How to capitalize easily in Word 2013 Posted: 17 Nov 2014 06:32 PM PST I've been an MS Word user since 1995, and until I purchased the 2013 version, I made extensive use of the <shift> f3 shortcut to correct capitalization when proofreading documents. This shortcut doesn't work in 2013. Why? I hate this version. Difficult to navigate and all of my favorite features are gone. I can't even get a calendar without finding a template online. Hate, hate, hate it and would rather downgrade back to 2010, but I have Windows 8.1, and the computer came with Office 2013. YUCK!!! Does anyone have a shortcut keys quick reference I can use to retrain myself to this necessary evil? |
Posted: 17 Nov 2014 05:13 PM PST If I have shaded the cells in a table Gray 65%, and I want to change them to Gray 80%, is there an easy way to do it? |
Posted: 17 Nov 2014 04:17 PM PST I'm a teacher - when I mark students papers submitted electronically in Word I insert a wingdings tick beside correct answers. The paste options dropdown box then displays just below the tick. This often hides the text on the line below - annoying because then I can't read it without clicking somewhere else in the document. Is there any way to make the options box display above the pasted item so it hides text I've already marked and doesn't hide the text I'm about to read? I don't want to get rid of the options box altogether because sometimes I need it, but moving where it displays would solve the problem. |
