Online source of information about the bugs in WORD 2013

Posted: 09 Nov 2014 02:21 PM PST

Rather than discover the problems with WORD 2013 one by one, perhaps someone knows of an online source that provides a list of common bugs with WORD 2013 and the work around.

Currently I am having problems with inserting a text box and then not being able to change the border to a double line.

I am sure there are probably other bugs.

I can use the side menu to change the text box border thickness, color etc. But I can choose one of the double line style boarders.

Sooner or later I will figure something regarding this or WORD 2013 has a unfixable bug.

But it would be more efficient to just learn all the problems ahead of time.

For example I have booked marked this page.

http://www.infoworld.com/article/2606393/office-software/85529-12-enraging-Office-2013-flaws-and-how-to-fix-them.html

Surely there are other pages like this to solve Office 2013 problems.

Printing envelopes from MS Word 2007 using a Brother MFC-J470DW

Posted: 09 Nov 2014 01:00 PM PST

I am trying to print a regular sized business envelopes ( approx. 4 1/8" x 9 1/2" and am either getting an error message "The margins of section 1 are set outside the printable area of the page" or it is telling me I have the wrong paper size selected.  I've tried several changes to the envelope size.  I called Brother and they told me it's an issue with the software application.  Although I can print 8 1/2 x 11 sized documents from Word and can also print form the internet.    I purchased this new printer about a month ago and am 99.9% sure I've printed envelopes from the same document I am trying to print from today.  The envelopes printed fine a few weeks ago.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this will be appreciated.

Word 2013 is making huge margins?

Posted: 09 Nov 2014 12:19 PM PST

I have a research paper due tomorrow that needs to be in MLA format. I had my margins set automatically to 1 inch all the way around, but when I finished typing the paper I noticed that on every other page, starting with the very first, the bottom margin gets bumped up to an inch and a half.

I went into the custom margin settings and tried setting them manually but they were still messed up, so I tried setting them to 0.9 inches instead. This didn't help.

Right now I have the bottom margin set to .04 inches and I have to go through my paper and move the lines by pressing enter until I get as close to a 1 inch bottom margin as possible, which isn't very accurate.

I've retyped my paper three times on two different computers and versions of word and this problem will not go away.

I also have page numbers set to .5 inches on the top right of every page in a header. I noticed that when I insert the header word automatically inserts a footer as well, and when I click "delete footer" it only deletes the sample text in the footer and not the actual footer itself. I don't know if this has anything to do with my margin problems but I thought I'd make a note of it just in case.

Please help!

Adjusting Margins within a Label Template

Posted: 09 Nov 2014 12:00 PM PST

I mail merged my Contacts into the template for Avery 5385 (Rolodex Cards) and am planning to print them on my HP Envy printer.  The format of the template is two cards across, and four down --- 8 per page.  I have 12 pages to print.

Problem: The left Margin on each column of labels (cards) is too close to the cut line for the card.

Question:  How do I adjust the margins to "push" all the content a space to the right?

Considerations:  Had I known this problem existed when I did the merge, I could have easily handled it in the way I formatted the data to flow into the template.  However, it didn't occur to me this would be a problem.  After the data was merged, I also (VERY LABORIOUSLY!) inserted a picture on each card.  There is no going back now --- I can't (won't) do another mail merge because it would require me to go back and insert all those pictures again.  So I must work from the merged data in the document as it sits.

Obviously, I could go through and manually insert space(s) in front of each line of text on each card.  But I am hoping there is a quick and easy way just to adjust the margins on each column of cards.

Extracting commandbar FaceIDs for use as image in an image control

Posted: 09 Nov 2014 11:26 AM PST

I've figured out how to extract both the PICTURE and MASK properties of the FaceId of any of the Office commandbar controls, and save those two properties as images on my computer.

        Set ctrl = CommandBars.FindControl(Id:=rs!FaceId)
        stdole.SavePicture ctrl.Picture, "E:\TempPic.bmp"
        stdole.SavePicture ctrl.Mask, "E:\TempMask.bmp"

But what I want to do is create an image picker that displays a set of these images in a form, either in an image control or as the picture property of a command button.  Unfortunately, neither the image control or the command button has a Mask property, so the background of all of the picture images are black, rather than what they are supposed to be.  The attached image shows the first 15 faceIDs, with the top row displaying the image saved with the PICTURE property and the bottom row showing the image created with the MASK property.

Is there a way to combine these to properties, or to save the image as a gif or other image type, which can then be assigned to the PICTURE property of an image control or a command button?

Can't change borders on inserted text boxes or inserted rectangles.

Posted: 09 Nov 2014 08:27 AM PST

I click on the object and the side menus appear. I make formatting changes, but I don't see an apply button or anything.

When I exit there borders are changed at all.

This really is annoying that every simple thing in Word 2013 is a problem.

I was able to run WORD 2007 fine, but with this, new WORD everything seems to be clever for cleverness sake.

Really hating the product.

WORD 2013 won't print labels

Posted: 09 Nov 2014 06:04 AM PST

I have Windows 8.1 and I went to printout out some labels and it won't print them. The print icon comes on for a few seconds and then the whole print job disappears.

I had just printed out some other material that wasn't labels. Now I need labels to do a mailing and WORD isn't working.

I had everything working on Windows 7 my older versions of Word.

The printer is HP Officejet Pro 8100.

Also, it is turned on, and the cable is in. I had just printed out some WORD documents.

I had a working version of everything, now I am living in Windows 8.1 bug land.

I doubt it is the printer and really won't be entertaining suggestions that it is. It is something wrong with the WORD or Windows 8.1.

Hi,

I am trying to open Microsoft word 2013 on windows 8.1 but every time I do this message keeps popping up:

Setup needs to run to configure your Microsoft office program, but setup is already running on your computer installing another program or prompting you for information.  You must close this office program until the current setup program has finished running and then start this office program again.

How do I resolve this as I cant use word at the moment as it closes down if I hit Okay or Help.

Thanks.

Creating Paragraph Breaks within Conditional Field Codes

Posted: 08 Nov 2014 06:04 PM PST

I'm trying to create a sequential list using field codes and mail merge. My problem is that certain items do not need to appear on the list, depending on how the mail merge goes. This is confusing, so I will give an example.

Let's say I'm putting together a list of quantities for various fruits. I've got a mail merge document that tells me how many apples, oranges, and pears I have. So the list might look like:

1. There are 32 apples.

2. There are 27 oranges.

3. There are 3 pears.

Using field codes it looks more like:

(SEQ list1) There are (MERGEFIELD "Apples") apples.

(SEQ list1) There are (MERGEFIELD "Oranges") oranges.

(SEQ list 1) There are (MERGEFIELD "Pears") pears.

Now, if there are no oranges, I don't want it to be on the list at all. I just want the list to look this this:

1. There are 32 apples.

2. There are 3 pears.

To do this, I use if/then conditioning. (IF (MERGEFIELD Oranges) = 0 "" "(SEQ list1) There are (MERGEFIELD "Apples") apples. This is successful in removing the oranges from the list, but there remains a space:

1. There are 32 apples.

2. There are 3 pears.

I've tried every which way I can thing to get rid of that space, but I can't figure it out. Perhaps someone here could help me.

Cannot Delete Style

Posted: 08 Nov 2014 04:20 PM PST

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1

Word 2013 (15.0.4659.1000) MSO (15.0.4659.1001) 32-bit

Part of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013

I have a DOCM document.

In the Styles panel, there is an entry for

"Times New Roman, 12 pt, Centered"

I hover over and it shows 15 instances.

It does not take cursor to the first instance.

This is strange.

I hover and select the 15 instances.

Nothing is selected. This is strange.

I then click on "normal". No change.

I hover over it and select Delete.

It does not delete.

I open the file in repair mode and Save As to a different filename.

I start Word in Safe mode using Ctrl so add-ins are disabled.

I hover over it and select Delete.

It does not delete.

I create a new document and select all from the old document and

paste into the new document using Destination.

That does not help.

How do I delete this pesky style?

Thanks in advance.
