You may also want to check out CustomerEffective's Interactions product.
It's free and performance is better than Activity Summary. We have used both
and are now with Interactions.

Test environment set up

Posted: 28 Mar 2005 01:33 PM PST

you can use virtualpc or even install a simple two server setup where one
server functions as a domain controller in a new forest (is disconnected
from your companies domain entirely) then add a second server to that new
domain. Users connecting to it from your production domain will get a login
prompt for their domain\username but that is not mich of an issue.

You can even use SBS 2003 to give the same result using one server.

I think you need you need to be using the browser client to have the Send
Direct Email option. From Sales for Outlook you get the Mail Merge option
instead

Combining Account Activities

Posted: 28 Mar 2005 11:45 AM PST

I'm sorry, I don't mean we want 'their' data. I mean I want to take
two Account records in our CRM and put them together. Widco no longer
exists, so we want to remove the Account record. However, since they
were bought by Acme, we want the history of Widco to show up under the
Acme Account record.

Error when working with Accounts that have a deleted user still as

Posted: 25 Mar 2005 11:59 AM PST

Hi Brian,

If you recreate the account in AD it will not fix the issue, The reason
being the SID will not be the same as the previous account.

The solution to your issue lies in a hotfix mentione in the KB article: You
receive an error message when you try to assign Microsoft CRM records to a
valid user account after the original user account has been deleted from
Active Directory (835319).

This should resolve your issue.

Thanks and Regards

You're correct, there's no supported way to delete the field - Microsoft
Support should be able to help you out. - It's worth it to open a ticket
with them when you're ready.
Unfortunately, unless you're very SQL savvy the only way to know is that
when you try to add a new field to an object, it will fail and say that it's
unable to add the field.

** Never 'experiment' with updating any of the SQL tables directly - this
query is only a select against the metabase **
** If you try and update the database directly and make a mistake, it will
absolutely hose it up. - **

The following query can be run in SQL Query Analyzer to determine row length
in bytes. It should be executed against your metabase database for Microsoft
CRM. You have to enter the appropriate entityid's. These can be found in the
Entity table in the metabase.

SELECT SUM(Length) as TotalLength from Attribute WHERE EntityId =
N'{C0A328C7-B25D-4965-9E0B-BA7EF71A483E}' and IsLogical = 0

After custom fields have been added to the schema, the fields cannot be
shortened or deleted. You must restore both the MSCRM and METABASE databases
from a point before adding the custom attributes to Microsoft CRM objects.
Then access Deployment Manager to publish the customizations for all objects
to update the .xsl files.

If this makes your eye glaze over, then don't even attempt it. - just let
Microsoft handle it. -

Cheers!
Scott.

Saed -
I am receiving a similar error on my CRM server, but only for Contact. How
would the script differ?
Thanks,
Amy

Hi~

Your only option without having CRM database and Active Directory backups
is to reinstall CRM to new databases and then use data migration to bring
existing data from the old CRM install into the new installation.

CRM Database Access for .Net Web Application

Posted: 24 Mar 2005 01:53 PM PST

One of the things you will lose is the security layer that CRM sdk layer
provides. If this is something which will be used by multiple people, then,
unless everyone can see everything, you will be letting users see things
which they otherwise would not have been able to.
Also, as Matt says, updating the database directly, is certainly not
recommended.
Is your main requirement/investigation around accessing the db directly? or
is it around writing a web application to access crm data? if it is the
second, you certainly dont need to go directly to the db...

SFO email not being sent

Actually ignor my last post, it was the SPAM filter.

The last auto update turned on a new any spam option which was blocking
outbound mail but only from CRM clients. I guess it must have been the guid
bit.

Thanks for the hint.

Are you trying to add a user back to CRM with the exact name that was
deleted? If so you will not be able to do this.

Turn back on CRM for Outlook 2003

You may also need to uninstall the SFO Client. Add/Remove Programs can do
this fairly easily, though sometimes there is a .pst file that get in the way
when you try to re-install. The install wizard will tell you where to go to
remove it. Very rarely, you will have problems re-installing. The MS CRM KB
has many articles to resolve most of the more advanced issues with
re-installing the SFO Client. Search on the Text you receive with your error
msgbox and you should be able to find the appropriate article...

Unknown Contacts?

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the post.

John is right on with his response. If the email address exists on two
records then a red question mark is displayed in either the To or From
field. CRM doesn't know which record to associate with the email.

Kind regards,

Mike Christl
