CRM on SBS (Internet, Domain)

Posted: 03 Jan 2005 01:10 AM PST

Hi Henrik,

As far as I know, Remote Desktop should be possible to use it under SBS2003.
Have a look at the following article:

SYMPTOMS

========

When you browse for computers by using the Remote Desktop tool or the
Terminal Services Client tool, Windows XP-based and Windows Server
2003-based computers with Remote Desktop enabled may not appear in the list
of available computers. Additionally, Windows XP-based and Windows Server
2003-based computers with Remote Desktop enabled may not appear in Microsoft
Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services Manager.

CAUSE

=====

By default, only Windows Server 2003-based Terminal Services servers and
Windows 2000-based servers with Terminal Services installed in either
Application Server mode or in Remote Administration mode advertise
themselves as Terminal Services servers. This behavior makes the browse list
in Remote Desktop and Terminal Services Client more usable, and makes sure
that only Terminal Services servers appear in Windows 2000 and Windows
Server 2003 Terminal Services Manager.

RESOLUTION

==========

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may

require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee
that you can solve

problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry
Editor at your own

risk.

To cause a computer that is running Windows XP Professional or Windows
Server 2003, but is not configured as a Terminal Services server, to
advertise itself as a Terminal Services server:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Terminal Server

3. Change the value of the TSAdvertise DWORD value from 0 to 1.

4. Quit Registry Editor.

5. Restart the computer.

Note Windows Server 2003-based computers that are configured as Terminal
Services servers, and Windows 2000 Server-based servers or Windows 2000
Advanced Server-based servers with Terminal Services installed in either
Application Server mode or in Remote Administration mode already have the

TSAdvertise

registry value set to 1. Therefore, these servers advertise themselves as
Terminal Services servers.

STATUS

=====

This behavior is by design

Going mad with crm migration

Posted: 02 Jan 2005 10:31 PM PST

The documentation says that I just need to make sure that the required fields
have values for the data to migrate. The are only two required field values
in the cdf_products table the rest are all null. But if what your saying is
true about the prices then does that mean I have to import the data into to
two sets of tables at once?

As to the idea of using scribe, surely its not unreasonable to believe that
the DMK cant manage something as simple as this. Also buying another third
party piece of software isn't an option right now.

Thanks for your ideas

check activities condition doesn't work .. HELP

Posted: 31 Dec 2004 01:12 PM PST

Hi Matt ... I am testing a workflow rule using the example you send me and
it looks like this

When Case Is Created
Email Template: New Support Case
Wait for 1 hour(s)
If
Check any activities created for this object
then
Note: There are activities
Else if
<<add conditions here>>
Then
Note: There are NO activities
End If

As you can see, after a case is created I send an email to notify about
the new case after that I want to wait 1 hour and if any activity has been
created besides the email send I create a note but I always get There Are
Activities even if the option Include activities created by workflow is
checked or not ..

I did another test without sending the email and it works OK

I thought that if I dont check the option Include activities created by
the workflow it won´t consider the activities created by the workflow so
it won't consider the email send as an activity ..

What can I do to check if no activities has been created after the email
send automatically by a workflow rule ? or is not possible ?

I hope you can help me ..

Karolina

Hi George,

If you like, please extract the CDF_product table (5-10 records) in excel
format and email it to me, I will try and migrate them into my test
environment.

This is actually how the product works out of the box. You have to re-add
the attachment.

Does CRM allow products to be grouped by categories?

Posted: 29 Dec 2004 03:55 PM PST

George,
You can also add custom fields to the Product object using the Deployment
manager. We did this to create product type and product line fields. And
you can display these fields on the Product views, and/or create new views
that show products based on the values in those new custom fields.

But, unfortunately, you can't use these groupings when you add products to
an Opportunity, or Order... (You can use the Product views to find the
products you want, and copy/paste the product name/id into the search field
when adding a product. Kludgy, bit we're working on a better workaround. HTH,

Dave

Feature Requirements

Posted: 29 Dec 2004 10:22 AM PST

Here's my short list of must-haves for CRM 2005:

-More robust workflow programming tool (and accompanying documentation!)
-Fewer new windows popping up (or none at all)
-A way for end-users to save queries in Advanced Find
-A way to view leads/contacts/accounts and click a "Next Lead" button to get
to the next one in the view
-Field masking (phone number formatting!)
-A way for an end-user to quickly and easily see what workflow is processing
on a given record, and the ability to stop or alter the workflow
-Improved Fetch querying (Ability to do cross-entity queries for null sets)
-De-duplication of records on the fly (ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!)
-Real-time synching of activities between web client and Outlook
-Same functionality between Outlook client and web client (mail merges, etc.)
-More robust email template editing (or at least the ability to paste in
HTML developed in another webpage development application) and CSS support

That will get me started. I could go on, but I'll leave some room for other
folks to contribute.

I'm looking forward to the finished list, Jake. Keep us posted.

Thanks,
Matt Wittemann

This will be a free download starting in early January via our website

Several additional products will be also be launched

You will be able to see screenshots, request a trial, or buy the
product suite directly from the website.

Hi Ed,

to clear the ol cache please go to Tools|Options |Other|Advanced
Options|Custom Forms|Manage Forms and click on clear cache.

Are you using some kinds of PDA/Handheld, something which uses ActiveSync?
If yes, this can be a problem for the sync. Please create a cleant without
any ActiveSync.

If this will not help, please open call at MS CRM Support.

The intial sync (and subsequent syncs) consume significant memory in my
experience. I would strongly recommend more memory in your SQL server.

Thanks! I solved the problem in a different way, using SQL Enterprise I

it and now it works. Trail and error can do it sometimes.

DR and HA

Posted: 27 Dec 2004 04:41 AM PST

As you can see the database is the critical piece of the entire Microsoft
CRM solution. The web servers can be rebuilt easily but if your database
goes down you are in trouble.

This means you need to make sure you invest in reliable hardware for your
server with adequate manufacturer support. This of course means no building
servers from spare parts your company has lying around the office (trust me
this happens)

You SQL server should have RAID 5 support so you can handle a single disk
failure. In addition you should also consider mirroring the operating system
drive as well.

At the minimum should be performing regular transaction log backups of the
sql database as well as a daily full backup of the database. I recommend a
thorough read of the Microsoft CRM Implementation Guide to familiarize you
with disaster recovery situations.

And a happy new year to you to!
