Exchange within SBS2003 Trial

Posted: 03 Aug 2006 01:46 AM PDT

OK, I've managed to duplicate the problem. I set-up my mobile device to sync
with the server through ActiveSync 4.2. It didn't seem to sync very well so
I disabled the sync with server option and went back to syncing directly with
Outlook. It appears that doing this will delete all the messages from the
last month without warning. I've managed to recover the deleted emails and
all is OK, phew!!!

How to access all my mailboxes with OWA

Oh lord, are we still on this? (I just followed up in your original
thread that Ed has been looking after)
it's the /greg and /fred format.

So you've decided that you have two Active Directory accounts, each
have a mailbox and that mailbox has a single SMTP address, or are we
still all mired in confusion here? (bear in mind that you have three
MVPs on this, two of whom are now confused about how many AD accounts
exist and one who is probably racing off to find your other thread to
become as confused as Ed Crowley and myself)

HOW DO I: Limits and Reporting in Exchange 2003

Posted: 02 Aug 2006 11:21 AM PDT

1) You can't limit the number of items in a folder. Folders with lots of
items (thousands and thousands) can cause performance problems for the user.

2) Check out Glen Scales blog. He has some great scripts and samples out
there.

Email account still exist after deleting the account and email

OK; that wasn't clear from your post. Perhaps one of the actual recipients
has a delegate set up in Outlook - or a rule. Or you're sending to a
distribution group set up in your contacts or a personal folder.

See if you can isolate the "real" address you were trying to send to, to
find out what triggered the NDR - send to one at a time.

Also make sure you aren't accidentally using Outlook's autocomplete and
inadvertently including the old address.

I think the OP means, he's trying to make sure that the HP Digital Senders
can *relay* through the SMTP server.
If so - I'd want to know how the 10.10.0.0 network is even connected/routed
to the 192.168.0.0 network.....

Yes I think so. Problem certainly seemed to occur for all emails sent from
various users to server B. Not sure about from B to A though. Not seen any
evidence of that.

Exchange within SBS 2003 emails from news groups

Posted: 01 Aug 2006 07:54 AM PDT

Well, you're into a limitation with POP3 and how it's supposed to
work. You could try POPCON Pro as I don't think that I suffer from
that problem in my lab. It's a free trial for 60 days or something and
it's tons better than that train wreck you get with SBS. It's cheap as
well and does a lot of rules so you can even get those subscriptions
sent to public folders, other mailboxes or drop stuff. It's pretty
flexible and your cited problem can be fixed one way or another with
it.

External Mail to Public Folders appearing as News

Posted: 01 Aug 2006 04:45 AM PDT

Thanks for the speedy response Leif!

Sorry but no joy!
I am running Exchange SP1 under Windows 2003SBS and the article you
referenced suggests I do not need to update anything as I'm already on SP1.
So I created the new registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\MSExchangeIS\<ServerName>\Public-<GUID>
and set the value to "1". I've restarted Exchange (twice) and rebooted the
server, but it is still logging incoming Public Folder SMTP as IPM.Post.

It appears that my version/configuration is not sensitive to this registry
key, however according to http://support.microsoft.com/?id=817809 the way to
accomplish this is to install SP1. However SP1 came pre-installed on my
system...

Any more thoughts?

Ben.

Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange can. I don't have such a

Legal requirement to backup emails in UK

Posted: 31 Jul 2006 06:45 AM PDT

First, I'm not a lawyer.

No, it would not suffice. Retention policy does not apply only to
backups. The policy would have to hard delete any e-mails from the
mailboxes if they aer more than 2 weeks old.

We are talking about different intersecting concepts.

In Canada, I'm erquired to be able to support my tax returns for 7 years.
It can be boxes of paper. If it's electronic, I must be able to not only
recover the data, but run the apps.

Some industries also have government mandated retention period.

The your company's legal department can dictate a retention policy. The
difference between a company's and government is that government policy
dictates a minimum amount of time you must keep the records. A company
policy dictates a maximum amount of time. In essence it maens that if
your company dictates a 12 month policy, at no time will there ever be
anything older than 12 months on your systems. It does not mean you can't
delete stuff that is less than 12 months, just that you can't keep
anything longer than that.
