Posted: 27 May 2006 08:15 AM PDT Hi John, I think the clue is in Help for serialize. From help: "Works starts serializing with the next new record you add". In other words, serialization will start at the place where a new record is added, all existing records will be blank. --------------------- If you want to serialize existing records in your existing Field. Format the Field as General. Input 1 in the first record of the field. To highlight all the existing records of that field. Point mouse to first record of that field, click and hold down the mouse button, and then move the mouse pointer down until all records are highlighted. On the Edit menu, click Fill Series. Under Units, click the unit you want for the series. If you want the series to increase more than one unit, select the number that appears in the Step By box, and the type a different number. Click Ok. Note If you decide not to use the series, immediately click Undo Fill Series on the Edit menu. --------------------------- If all is okay so far you can now format that Field as serialize if you want. The only thing you want to remember is to start your serialize number with it's correct number. As explained by Help, "Works starts serializing with the next new record you add". Hope this helps, Ken "John Williams" <com> wrote in message news:y2_dg.241$news.pas.earthlink.net... | I serialized an existing empty field following the help instructions but no | numbers ever appear. | | In List View I click on the field name, then I click format>field ... and | then select serialized for the field, set next number to 001 and increment | to 1 and click OK. | | That field remains blank (protected) after the setup and, if I enter data in | other fields of the first record, it still remains blank. | | Any help would be appreciated. | | John Williams | | |
Works 8.5 How to set open folder? Posted: 26 May 2006 10:48 AM PDT The file save as or open type is something we dont have much control over. To choose *.* just go all the way down in the open dialog and choose "All files". This will display all the files in the drive you want to open even if works Word processor cannot open them. Is this what you are looking for? I would suggest not changing the list as that might be dangerous and lead to data loss. |
Office 2007 Beta Corrupts Works 6.0 Posted: 26 May 2006 07:29 AM PDT You might be able to apply the same method described in http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.office.misc/browse_frm/thread/2f72416502508885 to fix the problem with Works 6. Thomas Kossler wrote: |
Microsoft Works and Office 2007 Posted: 25 May 2006 06:57 PM PDT Been there done that NO DICE with works 8 (as part of Works Suite 2005) "Dennis Pack x64, IE7B2, O2007B2" <com> wrote in message news:phx.gbl... Debbie: I had the same problem after installing Office 2007 B2 of not being able to open Works 7. What I did to get Works 7 functioning again was: Uninstall Works 7, delete the Works folder from "Program files (x86)", reinstall Works 7. Everything works normally, if I open a WPS document in Word I get a warning about a possible malicious document which I ignore because I know the document source. Usually I'll open Works for viewing documents that were saved in Works. "DebbieRy <MSFT>" <com> wrote in message news:%23$phx.gbl... Hi Jim, After some research, here's some info for you: 1) A full installation of Word 2007 installs the latest Works converter (Works632.cnv), which includes some DLL's from beta Works 9. 2) These Works 9 DLL's have the same name and location as their Works 6/7/8/8.5 counterparts, meaning that the old Works DLL's get overwritten with their Works 9 counterparts. 3) Some differences in Works 9 cause these newer DLL's to be incompatible with the older versions of works, so the system loader complains about missing exports when trying to run the program. As a result, the Task Launcher is the only Works app that will run (it doesn't have the dependency on the files that get overwritten). Works can be restored via the following steps: 1) Start Office setup in maintenance mode 2) Uninstall the Works converter (the rest of Office 2007 is fine) 3) Uninstall Works 4) Reinstall Works Note that this will mean that Word will not be able to read WPS files. At the moment, I don't know of any way to fix this (I haven't tried it with the old converter from the web site, but I don't think it will work). HTH. Posted: 24 May 2006 11:25 AM PDT If you have deleted it from the drive it will not be visible in the works folder. If you are seeing the file in the Works task launcher, then you will have to delete the file, double click the file name in the history of the launcher and then approve the removal of that record from the task launcher history list. Does this help. please reply if you have any Questions. Thanks Homer J Simpson wrote: |
Posted: 24 May 2006 07:08 AM PDT Hi Jim, The cleanup utilities provide one to return their computer to a original Works installation. As you still have problems I can only assume it is not caused by Works. You might try searching this news group at Google for Font Cache, perhaps one of their suggestion may help. Works Spreadsheets, Can't Open Posted: 22 May 2006 03:29 PM PDT You may have a corrupted install of Works. I looked at my Works 6, and wkssole.dll does have an entry point of _MatGetObjName@8 I'm guessing that you are trying to start the spreadsheet from the Task Launcher. As a temporary work around, try starting the spreadsheet program directly it. It's typically located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\wksss.exe You can create a shortcut to the program. Starting wksss.exe directly should open a blank spreadsheet. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "harry3" <microsoft.com> wrote in message news:com... |
