Building 2.6.10 kernel for Debian and ncurses Posted: 20 Jan 2005 02:58 PM PST In comp.os.linux.setup, John Beardmore uttered these immortal words: No. I don't use one on my Gentoo systems. You must make sure that every module that's needed before /lib/modules/$KERNEL_VERSION is available such as file system modules are built in to the kernel rather than as a module. -- Andy. |

So thanks to all those who replied, it is a lot easier than I thought it would be! I am making the switch to Vectorlinux SOHO v5 simply because it is so much faster than Mandrake in many ways, has everything I need and has a great community of users/developers on its forum. http://www.vectorlinux.com Larry Gagnon ******************************** to reply via email remove "fake" Microsoft will soon release their newest product: a vacuum cleaner. Upgrade RH Linux 7.1 to 9-will it keep existing applications? Posted: 19 Jan 2005 04:29 PM PST "Laurenz Albe" <com> wrote in message news:csnskc$9n$nextra.at... Don't do that. RPM itself, and glibc and gcc and the kernel, upgraded significantly between RH 7.1 and RH 9. It's really a lot safer to do it as a forklift upgrade rather than trying to recompile the SRPM's to install them under RH 7.1. |

Convert from testing/unstable to stable Posted: 18 Jan 2005 11:26 AM PST Bill Marcum <com.urgent> wrote: There is a way to back down - you can specify --reinstall in apt-get and specify the distro with -t (? - I'm not checking). But hi statement is false. It works fine, and he doesn't. Given that conjunction of capabilities, the best answer indeed is probably "reinstall" or "find somebody capable who can decide what you think is 'wrong' and fix it in five minutes". Hey, I'm still on potato! I have no difficulty installing anything - I serve as the boat anchor telling package maintainers not to up their dependency requirement statements for no flipping reason.
