1) Ensure you have not been turned into an open relay.
2) If mail is slow to leave the queue, please either wait or purge the DNS
cache.
3) Don't use file based AV on an Exchange server or exclude all the
directories that Exchange uses.

Cannot mail via Distribution group!!!

Posted: 24 Mar 2005 01:11 PM PST

Okay, I'm a little confused then by what you mean you can't send mail
external via the distribution group. Does this mean you are trying to email
the distribution group using an internet email account (e.g. hotmail, yahoo,
home isp, .etc) or you are trying to send something using the distribution
group as the "from" email address in Outlook when connected to Exchange?

Sending to external recipients.

Thanks for the links, Mark.
But if a user is restricted to send external mail, but need to be allowed to
send to 3 pre-defined external addresses, how would this be implemented?

Likewise with receiving from selected external addresses... how?

I am currently testing a demo copy of SBS2003 server, but I find Exchange
2003 quite complex.

Can Exchange Keep Copy of Relayed Messages?

Posted: 23 Mar 2005 06:37 AM PST

All messages that pass to the Exchange will be archived at this mailbox. The
exchange keeps a copy to this mailbox and nothing changes to the rest of
users :)

MX records for the server

Posted: 22 Mar 2005 10:15 AM PST

The way a host should react to that is to attempt to send to the lowest MX
record (10) and then try the highest record (20). Since you have 2 valid MX
records a host that has an issues delivering to the first should attempt the
second. You DSL line may not be as 100% reliable as your T1 or you could be
going over your bandwidth or etc... This will cause hosts to try your second
server which is off-line.

Get rid of the second MX record until you are ready to bring the new T1 up.

If you would post the domain name we could troubleshoot a little better, or
you could go here: http://www.dnsreport.com/ and get some information.

It might just be easier to set up another server with AD and the new name
and migrate to it.

Change password in OWA 2003 at LOGON

Posted: 21 Mar 2005 09:33 PM PST

The PC's Autologon as the computer number assigned to it, but it is logging
into the domain. Hope that clarifies that. The only thing they need to
check under their own name is email via OWA 2003.

system32/config/system corrupt OS still running

Posted: 21 Mar 2005 03:41 PM PST

Mark:
This is a Member Server. No amber lights, mirrored volumes. I think the
problem has been solved by MS Tech from Canada. There is documented problem
if you defrag the system volume that has mounted volume on another disk. The
MFT develops problems finding files. It took a week to get correct answer
and a number for files were deleted by chkdsk. The server restarted ok the
first time, after that it wanted to run chkdsk on each restart. Backup found
a number of corrupt files that is one reason I new I still had a problem.
DLLCache folder was empty after restart. Hot fixes in KB891189 and KB890018
were installed and seemed to have corrected the problem.

Hope this helps anyone else you has similar problems. Seems best not to
mount volume to system volume, at least not until SP1 is out.
