Conflict with McAfee

Posted: 15 Feb 2005 01:31 PM PST

saw this reponse on the other group

Hi~

There is a setting with this release of McAfee Enterprise Edition 8.0 that
prevents Outlook from launching items from the TEMP directory. When
clicking on the MSCRM folders in the SFO Client, the client will produce
the '/' Application Error referencing the Machine.Config file. The
resolution is listed below.

RESOLUTION

1. Right Click Virus Scan in the Taskbar
2. Virus Console.
3. Double Click Access Protection
4. Select File, Share, and Folder Protection.
5. Deselect > Prevent Outlook from Launching anything from the TEMP folder.

In addition, the Rules at the Server AV may need to be changed so they
don't republish the rules to workstations.

We should have a KB article out on this shortly.

Minimum hardware requirements

Posted: 15 Feb 2005 10:12 AM PST

I run my demos with Virtual PC running on a Notebook running a 1.6GHz Centrino
with 1 GB RAM. The VPC has SBS on it and has only about 380MB RAM Allocated to
it. I keep my server VHD on an external hard drivve and my demos run fine.

I have several 2+GHz Pentium 4 machines all with a good amount of RAM. Our
web server (probably the best) is a 2.4GHz P4 with 4GB. It also supports our
SQL server and a few web applications as well as several websites.

I'm trying to get a good handle on this before it all blows-up.

Converting Accounts -> Leads

Thanks for your help, that is exactly what I ended up doing. Fortunately,
none of the contacts had any info in them, just the associates accounts, so I
was able to export the contacts and then split the name field to two field
for the import to the leads.

Quotenumber migration problem -Bug or Feature?

Posted: 15 Feb 2005 01:25 AM PST

Lars,

The field in the cdf that links the tables is QuoteId, not QuoteNumber, my
mistake, sorry! QuoteId is the link to cdf_QuoteDetail, cdf_Quote_ext &
cdf_Quote_info.

Which brings us back to your original question ... why is QuoteNumber
required if it's overwritten in the migration anyway? I've found a few
funnies in the migration tool, so I guess we can put it down as another
feature. Still, hopefully a custom field can provide the info you need to
migrate.

Sorry for the confusion!

Nasty surprise isn't it!

You can code around this by checking the XML attributes and only doing
your work for the user update depending on what you are doing

Goldmine Activities Conversion and Times

Hi Jim,

Honestly I can't give you a comparison as I have only had minimal experience
with Goldmine and it has only been during this conversion. From what I know
of our clients requirements, they too want the integration with Great Plains.
CRM offers the three-way type of integration (Sales, Support and Great
Plains) they are seeking plus the ease of a familiar front-end of Outlook for
their sales staff, offering a minumal learning curve.

I wish I could give you any more information, but I hope someone else
responds to this thread in more detail for you.

In Exchange server 2003 I created Connection filter and subscribed

Hi, Pleas help me solving this problem, atleast confirm me I am going in
right direction or not.

I created DNS zone by below mentioned steps
How to configure your DNS for your own block list
You can create and maintain your own RBL. The first thing you must do is to
create a forward lookup zone in DNS. You should own the name, so a good one
is to use relays.your.internal.ad.name. As mentioned before you add hosts
that you want to block by reversing the IP address and add that string as the
hostname. The host IP can be anything you choose, but most often, it is
127.0.0.1
Zone neme given: relays.ad.ex2k3i2.sri
After this zone creation added host as(192.168.1.40 i.e. Exchange server PC
ip address)
created connecting filter on M2, with this created DNS suffix provider.
192.168.1.40(M1) and 192.168.1.62 (M2)both are my exchange server Ip addresses
M1 machine Ip address is in blocklist,
so I created sender connector between M1 and M2, sended a mail from m1
domain to M21 domain user.
Expected Result: Should terminate the connection of M1, shouldn't deliver
the mail to M2 domain user.

A good idea would be if you have installed and using MS Intelligent Message
Filtering (IMF). You can build a piece of software that monitors the
UceArchive folder regularly and then if a sending IP comes up x number of
times in y number of minutes, the software can add an entry in your own DNS
zone and perhaps after a while delete it.

Yes I am able to see Antispam tab,
I tried to add RBL service provider details
Provider name: Trend Micro RBL+
DNS: activationcode.r.mail-abuse.com
selected Any return code
after that I am not able to check "whether RBL service working or not?"
How can I check that one,
help in checking,
I Selected "Any return code" then if I am sending mail then also RBL service
will give return code as "un known host", then also it has to block my mail
server mails also but it is not happening.

Equation Editor Lags on first open in Office 2014

Posted: 15 Jun 2014 02:51 PM PDT

Hi Everyone,

I come to you guys after spending the past 4 hours working on this.

After opening an entire new session (no windows running) of Word 2013 the equation editor menus take about a minute to load. To clarify the tab opens fine, I can type things into the box that appears in my document but if I go to access the menus word hangs. At first I thought it was causing word to crash. After accidently ignoring the PC during one of these cycles I learned that it is just taking time to load the menu when I open it. After about a minute it comes back to life. This does not affect Excel or Powerpoint only word. After that minute hang up on the first equation, the equation editor operate normally.

I have the compatibility pack installed that is necessary for the fonts and I have done repairs and a manual uninstall including templates and additional files.

Any ideas as to why this might be happening. It is currently an annoyance but it seems like there should be a work around.

Thanks,

Will

Word 2013 prints auto duplex back to front incorrectly...

Posted: 15 Jun 2014 01:01 PM PDT

I like to print my documents from back to front so I don't need to shuffle the pages after printing a large document.  However, Word 2013 doesn't seem to do this properly.

Testing it on a small, 3 page document:  Blank, Page 1, Page 2, Page 3.

What it should do is:  Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, blank.

Is there a way to make Word smart enough to understand that in a document with an odd number of pages, no sections, continuous paging etc., that the intent is to have Page 1 be the front of the top page on the output tray? :)

I can force this behavior by padding blank pages in the document, but that's a bad solution because it's a manual step that needs to be corrected whenever the page count changes.

Thanks!

Jeff.

MS Word Slows Down with Heading Numbers

Posted: 15 Jun 2014 10:28 AM PDT

I am working with what is currently a 400 page document. I use Styles to define new headings and sub-headings.

Recently I added numbering to the headings, i.e

1 Heading 1

2 Heading 2

2.1 Heading 2, subheading 1

2.2 Heading 2, subheading 2

etc.

Word has really slowed down since then, there is a lag when I type that is infuriating.

Word used to exhibit a similar behavior when I had documents with lots of equations, but about 2 years ago that problem suddenly resolved itself, I imagine in a patch they introduced.

Is there any way to get word sped up again? I could upgrade to Word 2013 if anyone thinks that will help, but I don't want to go through the trouble if it won't fix the problem.

Thank you.

Cannot COM-automate a readonly Word 2013 document

Posted: 15 Jun 2014 08:11 AM PDT

Word 2013 introduce a rather strange behaviour, totally different from Word 97,2003, 2007.

Consider this piece of code

s:='test.doc'

 WordApp := CreateOleObject('Word.Application');

       WordApp.Visible := true;
       wordapp.Documents.Open(s);
       wordapp.selection.font.bold:=1; /// here's the problem with ReadOnly file!
       wordapp.selection.font.size:=20;
       wordapp.selection.typetext('Write test '+datetimetostr(now)+'  '+floattostr(now));

       Range := WordApp.Documents.Item(1).Range;
       wordapp.Selection.find.execute('Associazione',false,false,false,false,false,true,1,false,'');
       wordapp.selection.typetext('FRANCOCORBELLI');
       WordApp.Documents.Item(1).SaveAs('z:\oka.doc');
       ShowMessage('Ora chiuderò Word');
       Wordapp.Quit;

Here I open a DOC, change the font, write something, save to another file.

This works fine (Word <=2007) if test.doc is readonly or not.

If test.doc is readonly (attrib +r), then Word 2013 throw an exception of "unallowed" modifing of the file,

so I cannot work (and write back).

Is it possible to disable this (for me) big deal?

Thanks to all.

Try to do the same with a faaar smaller amount of data, and it still CRASH. Noting that windows update, I try to repair my office and those EXCEL problem is gone. Now I did a Microsoft Word editing, which I can say, a lightweight kind of edit (5 page with 4 sections, due to interchanging portrait - landscape page layout). When I try applying AND editing a page number style, The WWLIB.DLL is CRASH.

My questions: WHAT causes this, and HOW to solve ?

That's for forwarding inbound mail.
You have outbound mail queued.
Your Exchange server needs to have smtp connectivity to the smarthost -
which you're not able to verify.
Check if there are any firewalls on either host or between the two, or if
smarthost has any access restrictions.

Unfortunately, you will have to open up each mailbox and put a forwarding

Or, for each mailbox you could create a Custom Recipient with the new SMTP

address on their old mailbox.

A disclaimer will probably not hold up in court as being legal, but
companies love putting them on their messages. Lots of third parties

Microsoft Word 2013 will only print with certain fonts

Posted: 14 Jun 2014 12:21 PM PDT

hello my name is John and a few months ago my computer developed a weird problem after a regular microsoft windows update in that microsoft word 2013 home and student edition will only print in certain fonts such as Garamond or Arial but it will not print for others such as times new roman or calibri

a few things you need to know

1. I do not think it is the printer's drivers because I have uninstalled and reinstalled them several time

2. I do not think it is the printer because my family has two other computers connected to it and they have no problems with word or fonts at all

3. I can print things online such as booking orders and tickets

4. I have gone to programs and features and have done the quick repair twice and have done the online repair which leads me to believe its a problem with office

5. the I have the same problem with other programs wordpad

6. and yes I have restarted the computer

any help at all would be appreciated

Constant movement of page while typing 2013 Windows 8. Always adjusting the page to keep typing. Really annoying

Posted: 14 Jun 2014 12:20 PM PDT

I am using Office 365 with Windows 2013

When I type documents the lines are constantly jumping up or down.  With the touch screen I am always moving the text up and down to continue.

It really gets annoying and I have been putting up with it for a long time.

The typed text is not stable - I have to keep chasing it.

Because of my eyesight I type with the View set to 200% but the jumping also occurs at 100%

Editing a number in word with changes reflecting everywhere in the document wherever it appears

Posted: 14 Jun 2014 11:39 AM PDT

Basically i am working on a finance document in word  with a lot of numbers which are subject to revision. For example the total cost of a project say XXX keeps changing and appears many times within this long document. Is there a way I can change it at one place and the changes are reflected at all the places

I want to save Word files to my computer, not any of those other crappy places

How can I get it to stop asking me about the cloud and all that other nonsense? I want to skip the step of having to say that I want it on my computer.

Windows 8.1 does not recognize [roduct key of Office 2010

Posted: 14 Jun 2014 10:40 AM PDT

Kept getting error codes trying to install Office 2010 on 8.! so did every suggestion, over many hours, made in another discussion.   Now I can download, after putting in product key, and get right to the end of installation and the message appears:  Microsoft cannot verify license.  You should repair the office program using the control panel.  Office has not been installed completely so the use of the control panel is not possible.  I do not know how the control panel can correct a product key/license problem anyways  So, I entered the product key accepted by MS on their web site to begin the download but not verified by 8.1.   Now what?  Please do not suggest Office 2013, it is just as bad if no worse.

Word 2010: USB Stick-docx file-replaced with xml

Posted: 14 Jun 2014 10:29 AM PDT

Hi.

My wife brought home a USB stick with a Word 2010 docx file on it to work on. She was able to open it, but when she saved it, Word 2010 deleted the docx file completely and replaced it with a "filename.doc.xml" file. Completely removing the original docx file....

When you click to open it, Notepad tries to open it, but cannot. If you right click on it, select open with: Word, Word tries, but belly-aches about a character error in the file.

Not sure why it would completely remove the original file.....no temp file as a back up either....

Thanks,

Jim

PS Before she went back to the office to work on it, I did notice some sort of "encriptor" file at the bottom of the file list????

Research Task Pane query always returns "No results found"

Office 2010 Research Task Pane query always returns "No results found".  How can I fix this?

This question has been asked in various forums from 2010 to 2014 but never answered.  At least I cannot find an answer.

Can any one provide one?

Show hide button does not fully work, Word 2007

Posted: 14 Jun 2014 04:54 AM PDT

The Show Hide button on the Home tab of the Ribbon has lost some of its functionality.  When turned on, pushed in, all of the formatting marks; Paragraph marks, tab markers, space,etc are displayed.  Also Page and Section Breaks, Indexing, and all other fields are viewable.

However when turned off, all the fields and breaks become hidden but the paragraph, space, tab, etc remain visible. I usually leave them turned on, but with all the fields that are in this document, I turn them off because viewing all the fields can be confusing

 I have not changed any of the Option settings in Word, and can not figure out why the change in behavior.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Hugh

Help - Copying/pasting to WordPad

Posted: 14 Jun 2014 01:17 AM PDT

Having changed this week to Word Pad (using windows 7).  I'm struggling with copying and pasting from the internet.

I have always been able to highlight the page I want to copy (free patterns)  then I right clicked copy and put it in Word document and it saved it all pictures and text.

This week having upgraded to WordPad 2013 I can still right click and copy but when I paste only the text is visible not the pictures.

Can anyone help me please?

Thankyou

Cannot Open Office 365 Documents

Posted: 13 Jun 2014 10:01 PM PDT

Following a number of Windows 7 updates a few days ago I was unable to open Office documents. I restored my PC to an 'earlier time', the day before the updates, and I was then able to open Office documents. However when I came to shutdown the same Windows updates appeared and the problem returned.

Can anyone help?

Microsoft Word Styles hyperlink, bottom-border

Posted: 13 Jun 2014 09:17 PM PDT

In web design I am accustomed to styling my links as a border-bottom and not as an underline.
Excepting a few rare fonts like Gautami (Microsoft) or Naskh Medium (Adobe), underlines gouge through lower ligaments - often making words less readable.

Always cramped.

Office 365, in its functioning Virtualization ethos, has removed the capability to style hyperlink border-bottom. And therefore, has also lost the ability to condition the default Word template with appropriately styled hyperlinks.

A few things about this capture. Notice that Hyperlink Followed is missing! It was removed from Styles gallery Styles/Manage Styles as soon as Hyperlink Followed style was adjusted and saved. Not so good. Something went wrong with my styling of Hyperlink Followed

While creating a Custom bottom border link (bottom-only), border only looked good in preview. But obviously converted from Custom bottom to Box when saved, as now every followed link in Word based on this template is enclosed in a box. Multiple subsequent efforts in Styles gallery Manage Styles to restore border bottom link style all regress to Box.

Now, to adjust Hyperlink Followed, I have to place cursor on any followed link in a document using the failed border-bottom link styling. And follow more than a dozen steps!

  1. Click the followed link.
  2. Right click the followed link. (2 popups appear, use top one)
  3. Click Styles.
  4. Then click Create a Style.
  5. Name the style Hyperlink Followed..
  6. Click Modify.
  7. Change Style type to Character.
  8. Change Style type based on to a FollowedHyperlink.
  9. Select radio button New documents based on this template.
  10. Click Format button.
  11. Click Border.
  12. Change Box to None.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Again, click OK.

I wish we could at least place link underlines behind currently gouged text. And hopefully change the opacity of underlines so they don't BLARE SO LOUDLY! The only other option for now is equally as buggy as Word's Border antics. In Manage Styles again, style Fonts underline by messing around with underlines (generally). You have to place cursor on a hyperlink first, so that Manage Styles focuses now named FollowedHyperlink (???) style. Now click another dozen times to effect hyperlink style as not being underlined. Word links are really not very 'stylish'. Nor are links easily styled.

How do I get back my office-before-365-windows-8.1-pro much more flexible border-bottom link styling?

Turn on Track Changes by default

Posted: 13 Jun 2014 03:36 PM PDT

I use Microsoft Word only to edit documents for clients, and I'm constantly forgetting to turn on Track Changes -- and then, after I finish, I have to go through and try to mentally reconstruct every change. It's maddening, but the only directions I've managed to find online involve changing a "normal.dotm."

I've found normal.dotm, and I try to change it, but Word will not allow me to change it. Is there not some simple setting to turn on Track Changes by default>

Help, please, anybody.
