Newer office products still require source when installing patches but they also have a Local Install Source that they can referrence. You may want to try installing the filehashpatch from KB835220 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=835220 This patch has been known to reduce the need for source when Office 2000 installs updates. It wont eliminate the need, but should curb it. Note: Installing the LIP assumes that Proofing is also installed. However (I can send you screenshots) when “adding†the language, Office reports that the Proofing is not complete. What we do NOT have is: other Languages only for Proofing purposes (Spanish, Ukraine, Portuguese, German, etc.). We could theoretically install the full LIP’s (on average 250 MB per language (!) which makes the image far too big) or somehow “extract†the proofing component out if these LIP’s. Conclusion: We cannot create the “promised†“single global image†now. In fact we have 3 questions left: 1) The Vista 64 Bits problem (I posted that one on the Vista forum). 2) The “incomplete†proofing when installing a LIP. 3) The Proofing Tools DVD (when will it be available). You really don't even need to uninstall it before changing the hard drive. Minor hardware changes will not result in license issues. If you change a lot of the computer's hardware at once, then you might experience issues, but that can usually be cleared up by activating over the telephone.
