Crystal Reports: Which Version? Posted: 10 Aug 2004 03:58 PM PDT Thanks John That was not as bad as I thought. Just for the record, here are some references that helped: 1. Chapter 5 in the Customization Training Kit has a excellent section on setting up Crystal Reports to work with CRM. If I had not found this I would have never figured out how to get CR to talk to CRM 2. FAQ about CRM 1.2 Reports (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;834789). Download the PDF for info on how to save your report to CRM 3. Tutorial in CR Help section. If you've ever created a report in Access, the basic concept is the same in CR, although not quite as intuitive (I still haven't figured out how to do a left join, i.e., give me all the accounts regardless of whether they have an associated contact.) Posted: 10 Aug 2004 03:40 PM PDT Problem is fixed. When I installed my DEV version of CRM I did not do an immediate backup. So when I wanted to restore DEV to a pristine state, I used the backups from my PROD CRM install (on which I did an immediate backup after installation). From a SQL Server point of view, this restore was successful. However, CRM would not start and generated login errors in Event Viewer. So I restored again, this time using the earliest backup of the DEV CRM that I had. Now CRM comes up fine, it's just not in a pristine state. But that's okay, it's just DEV. So I think the lesson here is that you cannot restore CRM from different installations. I thought that since both DEV and PROD were in the same domain and ran under the same domain account that I could restore one from the other. CRM must be assigning some type of GUID so that each installation is unique. I would be grateful if anyone can confirm this assumption One other lesson I learned. The import.xml that is included on the CD at: D:\ENGLISH\CRM1.2\SERVER\SQL\SCRIPTS\1.0\IMPORTEXP ORT\IMPORT.XML .... is for version 1.0 only. Apparently MS does not provide a base configuration file for v 1.2. So to make sure you can always "start over," immediately after a successful install of CRM you should: 1. Back up your databases (minimum of MSCRM and METABASE) 2. Export a configuration file. 3. Copy your web site files. Does anyone have comments or want to share their restore experinces? Posted: 10 Aug 2004 02:49 PM PDT One tip that I picked up from a Microsoft web conference: If you look at the SDK, you will notice that you call the same code a lot - this is because the classes are all derived from a base class. Especially, you will call things like WhoAmI to get a CUserAuth object quite a lot. What MBS did is to create a "user cache" of CUserAuth objects. You just check the cache and if the user has a CUserAuth object in there then use it instead of having to go through the WhoAmI stuff. Stephen "Jake Horn" <com> wrote in message news:%phx.gbl... |

Exchange 2003 OWA and recieving forwarded contacts Posted: 21 Sep 2005 12:52 PM PDT Oh yeah...I am aware of that, but i am not sure I believe that in this case. in OWA, when you create a new contact you use the same form on OWA that this attachment opened in. Its not that OWA needs some work around to open it up, it knows what it is and opens it in the correct form. It goes that far, why just stop there. Your remark would indicate that a user is unable to create contacts in OWA. "Ed Crowley [MVP]" wrote: |

KB 888619 contains old versions of exchange files Posted: 20 Sep 2005 08:03 PM PDT Scott I'm slightly confused by your response. you state that the files that have changed are different. When I look I find two files listed in both articles (store.exe and mdbmsg.dll). There isn't a list of files changed and a list of files touched. In short however you state I can install the patch over the one I already have installed, and the newer files will not be overwritten. Meaning that the newer version contains any fixes (or touches?) of the earlier versions. What do you mean by "If people are doing the same thing on the back-end as they do on the front-end, then the patch can easily go on both."? The hot fix appears to be a patch for OWA. Are the files used by the backend when using OWA on a front-end to access your mailbox? "Doing the same thing"?? please explain ... John "Scott Roberts [MSFT]" wrote: |
Adding E2k3 to replace old E2k3 Posted: 20 Sep 2005 07:11 PM PDT Assuming the name isn't too huge, can deal with that. Changing the ip to old server ip would make life easier for me because I have outside pointing inside with that address. Also, I have many sites in my domain. We are spread all over. Forest prep could take awhile. So basically, I am just building a W2k3 server loading E2k3, and in the setup does it ask if I want to join an exchange org? I can't remember. Last, when I do mailbox move, space will be a concern if data will be added to the OS disk. If it is the raid 5 set where info store is no problem. I just don't know which it is? Allowing users to modify distribution lists Posted: 20 Sep 2005 04:45 PM PDT Certainly, you can use Delegation wizard in AD Users & Computers to delegate permissions to change particular user attributes to one user (or Security Group, just make user member of that group, less hassle when the user leaves and someone else takes his/her place), and then create a custom MMC to only include the OUs/Containers that have users. -- Bharat Suneja MCSE, MCT -------------------------------- "Brad" <microsoft.com> wrote in message news:com... |

The MIME type for a file of this sort should be one of these: application/pkcs7-signature application/x-pkcs7-signature application/keychain_access Well, that may be understandable. If the MIME Content-type is different to the ones above the client should be able to work with the attachment, but Outlook (being an application) may have different ideas about that. So it's not an Exchange problem, but an Outlook problem. Yes, that's correct. But when you look at the MIME types for the different body parts, what are the "Content-type" values for the different ".p7s" attachments? Sure. Have the chose a different extension for the attachment. They're certainly free to use anything they like (they could even use .exe or ..com, but that would probably be an even worse choice!), but when they do so they should be careful to select something without a widely accepted meaning that differs from the intended purpose of the file. -- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP MS Exchange FAQ at http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Don't send mail to this address mailto:com |

After further test I have checked our old 2k enviroment and using 'check names' when using only the first name does return a list of all relevant people within the gal but our new 2003 does not. For example If i wrote 'richard' in the to field then hit check names our old (2k) exch would return about 10 names. Some would be richard smith, richard cooke, richard jones others would be debbie richardson alex richards etc etc. The new 2k3 exch would simply show debbie richardson alex richards etc etc. Does this shed any more light on the issue?
