Microsoft CRM - CRM 1.2 Demo License problem

Microsoft CRM - CRM 1.2 Demo License problem

CRM 1.2 Demo License problem

Posted: 12 Jun 2004 09:00 AM PDT

Hi Edwin,

Thanks for that. It's more relevant than you know ;-), as at present the
client has an accounting app (Accpac Enterprise) with pervasive.sql back
end, 15 users hitting Accpac. It's too bad that Accpac is on pervasive
because that complicates things; but that was an inherited application prior
to SBS.

They are considering moving Great Plains, but we're trying to satisfy an
immediate need for CRM first - moving to Great Plains at some later date,
using the integration as a primary motivator.

The goal is SBS, TS hosting user desktops, CRM and Great Plains. Their
current server will make a fine TS box, we're hoping to do this with not
more than 2 servers. It's a design challenge that I don't have much
experience with.

Not helping, is that there seems to be a push by CRM and Great Plains into
the SB and specifially SBS marketplace, but there is some disconnection when
one sees 'not supported' if you put all three in the same sentence.

I'd love to team with a CRM/MBS partner, but in this corner of the world it
isn't looking good just now. Perhaps SBS is going to be the odd man out, but
I hope not.

Access CRM by the internet.

Posted: 11 Jun 2004 12:54 PM PDT

Yes you can access CRM by the internet.
Users are able to point their browser to the url. They
will be prompted for a username and password.

Some pre-requisites

1. Create a host header for your CRM website in IIS.
[Start, programs, administrative tools, Internet
Information Services Manager.]
(IIS needs to know what people will call it from the
outside world. For development we have no static ip. So we
use no-ip.info... so in IIS right-click on the website,
select properties, from the general tab select the
advanced button, click add. From the drop down list select
the ip of the server, port 80 and then enter the public
URL. Ours is "ourcompany.no-ip.info".

2. Create a DNS entry for the host header on the server
that is running CRM.
DNS needs to know that ourcompany.no-ip.info lives here
locally. [Start, programs, administrative tools, DNS]
Expand your server, then forward looup zones, then click
on your domain. From the tool bar select action, New Host
(A). For name put, your company.no-ip.info, enter the ip
address of the CRM server and click add host. or whatever
your url is.

3. Make sure that you forward the correct ports on your
router to the CRM server.
(In my router I got away with only forwarding port 80 to
the CRM server.

4. Tell your reps to disable any pop up stoppers. They
will prevent CRM from opening in their browser. They will
see the log on screen, but whe it tries to open it will
just disappear.

View Notes list/activities in Information tab

Posted: 11 Jun 2004 10:32 AM PDT

Another way of doing this is placing a link to the
Activities and Notes report somewhere on the tab or forms
in question. Accessing a report via a url was covered in
this forum a while back.

Data will not synchronize to Outlook Sales

Posted: 11 Jun 2004 08:20 AM PDT

Only forms customization synchs. No data at all.
Accounts, leads, contacts. If I enter a contact in
offline mode to test, nothing goes up to the server. I
am doing this with Administrator settings and in the
correct company (only one). No errors occur. By what I
can see, it just says "no data to merge".

CRM 1.2, SBS 2003, Sharepoint Companyweb

Posted: 11 Jun 2004 03:52 AM PDT

I met the same need in a less elegant but very simple way by adding a new IP
address to the network adapter and installing CRM on a new IP address -
completely separate from SBS though both on same box. So far works
absolutely fine - not sure what (if any) implications there will be in terms
of new sharepoint integration in the recently announced CRM 1.2 Feature
Pack.

CRM backup and restore

Posted: 10 Jun 2004 08:35 PM PDT

No, not the GUIDs.
Every item in the database has something called a
Security Descriptor. This has to do with the integration
with AD. Every user in the AD has a unique number (not a
GUID though.). This identifier is reused in mscrm. (this
is what MS mean when they say that they "leverage AD
security." :-P )
When you create a new AD structure, like Mike did, all
users will have IDs that won't match with the user
identifiers in ms crm. This is where the Redeployment
Tools come in handy. They simply recalculate every single
Security Descriptor in the database to match the new AD
structure.

A somewhat simplified description, but you get the
general idea.

Dave,

Thanks for your reply.
Our CRM implementation is in a relatively early stage of implementation.
Yes - these errors are occurring on a production box.
We don't have a tremendous amount of data in the DBs as of yet:
approx 200 accounts;
approx 130 contacts;
approx 20 incidents.
About 1 month ago, we moved the DBs to a new DB Server - and things haven't
been right since.
Fortunately, all the accounts were moved in using the DMF, so we'll likely
rebuild the environment rather then burn an incident.

Thanks again.

Microsoft Word - Computer came with MS Word Starter 2010

Microsoft Word - Computer came with MS Word Starter 2010

Computer came with MS Word Starter 2010

Posted: 14 Sep 2013 02:41 PM PDT

My HP, Windows 7 computer came with MS Word Starter 2010, which has been working fine until yesterday when I wanted to open a document and saw that all my documents now have a DOCX next to them.  When I clicked on it, it came up with an option to buy Word or give a pin no. and it came with the computer so I have no pin.  What is going on and did MS change it for some reason?  How recover these files so I don't lose them and can open them.  I'm not that advanced in computer use.  I did go to the default area, clicked on one and tried to change it to what was offered which is my Word 2010 starter and nothing took.  It wouldn't change back.  Someone suggested I must have changed something in my default, but I did not.  Help.  By the way, I have Norton 360 so didn't think it was caused by a virus.  However, unless I was also dreaming, when I went on my computer I didn't notice the Norton logo on my toolbar at the bottom, but thinking it must have been there as I put in the disk for Norton which has 3 times it can be used and although it sounded like it was running, I never was asked for the code that has to be put in so I thought it must have been on there all along.  However, I did now see the logo.  I did a full system scan and it came up with 70 things it found and fixed or eliminated but also I noticed it had a bunch of medium risk ones which I've never seen on before with a scan and it said it blocked them.  Don't know if there's anything that could knock Norton off my computer so I'd have to reload it and that would give a virus time to get into the computer.  I need help to do something simple or probably can't do it myself.  The man at Staples tried to tell me that Word starter is not free anymore but that would insinuate that MS made the changes remotely.  I'm not buying that idea as it was said to come with Starter and never told me it had an expiration period and never saw that posted either.  I got the computer in 2011.  Thanks for any help.

How do I get Microsoft Office 2010 to stop asking for the product key?

Posted: 14 Sep 2013 02:31 PM PDT

In spring of 2012, I bought this HP Pavilion desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium, and it came pre-installed with Microsoft Office Starter and Excel Starter. No powerpoint or anything, but I didn't need those, so that was fine.  It is now mid-September of 2013, and everything had been working fine... until today. Now, whenever I try to open an Office document that is either in the "My Documents" folder or shortcutted on my screen, it will refuse to open the document saying that Office is not installed on my computer and that I need to either install it or enter a product key.

BUT. I have Office pinned to my task bar, and whenever I open the program by clicking on it there, or by going through the start menu, it opens just fine. Indeed, I can get to my documents now by opening Office first and then opening the document from inside of there. Still, though... It's annoying that I can't just open the folder I need anymore, or even use "My Documents" or any of my office shortcuts. I've tried restarting my computer, and checking for updates, but no dice. It's not like I was running a trial version and it ran out, either. One of the major reasons I chose this computer was because I wouldn't have to put up with that.

Is there any way to fix this? I don't like how much this problem is slowing down my work flow, and I'm seeing less and less reason all the time to not just work in Google Docs for everything. (The product key is long-gone in all the chaos of moving three times since I bought this, but there's no reason why I should have to use that at all.)

Microsoft Word 2010 will not open my saved documents

Posted: 14 Sep 2013 12:52 PM PDT

I have Microsoft Word 2010 that was already installed on my computer when I purchased it at Costco.  Recently it stopped allowing me to open my documents or any documents that were sent to me.  Now whenever I click on one of my documents the Microsoft Installation screen pops up and I say to Activate then it asks for a Product Key.

But the program was already installed on my computer when I bought it back in 2010 from Costco when they still had Word Starter on the computers instead of the 90-Day trial like they do now.  I was told that this is happening because of Microsoft's recent update.

It is NOT a trial edition, I bought my computer 3 years ago and just recently stopped working.

Does anyone know how to fix this please?

Thank you!

Microsoft Word Starter 2010

Posted: 14 Sep 2013 12:10 PM PDT

All my documents from Microsoft Word Starter 2010 that I have saved in my Document folder; the icons have turned to gold and say that the Microsoft Office product necessary to open this file is not installed on your computer.  It says that I have to purchase the program or if I already purchased the program to put in the product key number. I am not sure what this is.

When I bought my computer Microsoft Word Starter 2010 was already on my computer.

Why did this happen. I was able to open my documents a few days ago and it seems that since my computer did the windows updates, I have not been able to access them.  Not sure if this is the reason why.

Could you please help me out.

Word docs convert into Journal whenever I turn off computer

Posted: 14 Sep 2013 09:30 AM PDT

When I turned off the computer 2 nights ago, it automatically installed new updates .  When I next turned it on, my 100's of Word docs had been converted to Journal docs, which I couldn't open since I don't have Journal.  I recovered them using System Restore, but when I turned on computer today, the same thing had happened again.  Another symptom is I don't have an option to open a new Word doc inside a folder, although I can outside a folder with my Microsoft Word Starter.  Any ideas how to stop this besides never turning off my computer?

Word 2013: Cannot find Table > Design tools > Draw Table and Table Line Eraser

Posted: 14 Sep 2013 08:38 AM PDT

Hi,

I am using Word 2013. I drew a table and wanted to erase a single line from the table. I tried using the method in your website:

According to the very last statement:

  1. To erase a line, click the Table Tools Layout tab, click Eraser, and then click the line that you want to erase.
But as you can see from the screenshots attached below, there is no such option! This is very irritating, i can't manipulate the table as i could in office 2010 and 2007! The DRAW options are MISSING!

My System information:
Windows 8 32 Bit, Office 2013, Samsung ATIV 500T (uses atom clover trail x86 Z2760 with 2GB RAM)

Help will be appreciated. Thank You!

Space above paragraph on first page

Is it possible to remove the space above a paragraph on both the first and following pages? That would make my document look more consistent.

Word2010 MailMerge Repeating fields

Posted: 14 Sep 2013 07:22 AM PDT

Way back in Word97 I created a mail merge for an invoice type document with the Customer name and address at the top, a line for each item and a total and payment information at the bottom. The secret seemed to be with putting the item fields for each line into a table.

I don't seem to be able to do this in Word2010, can it still be done or have we moved to a different way of doing this sort of thing?

Thanks

Microsoft Word will not let me close without problems when I don't want to save

Posted: 13 Sep 2013 07:25 PM PDT

I have Microsoft Word 2007. Whenever I try to close out of the program without saving, a pop up box says do you want to save the document? I click no (because I don't want to). After that, another pop up comes on saying that it cannot save or create this file. I click ok. Then another one pops up saying it had trouble saving and it asks if I want to save the document as (some long title) and do I want it to be marked to be recovered. I say no. Then save as pops up along with another message saying I don't have permission to access this folder. I click cancel on the folder box and then cancel on the save as box. Then I click the 'x' on Microsoft Word and yet another box pops up saying changes have been made to the global template and do I want to save those changes. I click no.
I'm so confused as to why this happens every time I try to close Microsoft Word without saving. I hope someone can understand my question and answer it. Please and thanks!!

office starter 2010

Yesterday after a Windows update installed, MS Office Starter 2010 would not work and all the document icons changed to orange folders.  The same thing happened last April--I corrected it then by following directions at support.microsoft.com/kb/2465140.  I attempted to follow the same directions today only to find, after I'd uninstalled Office Starter, that I can't reinstall it using Microsoft Office 2010.  How can I get Office Starter back and get it working again?

MS Monthly Updates Causes Problems with Office 2013

Posted: 13 Sep 2013 05:44 PM PDT

Team I purchased MS Office Home & Business 2013 in June, and I installed it without problems on my Windows 7 Dell laptop.  Everything was fine until the Microsoft monthly updates were issued in July, then all my Word and Excel documents became read only, and they all showed that they were created using Word or Excel 2007, even the ones that were created with Word or Excel 2013.  I posted the issue here on the Community site and was told to run "Quick Repair" or "remove and re-install" Office 2013.  I removed and reinstalled the software and that fixed the problem.

Everything was fine until the August MS updates were received, after which I was in the same situation, so this time I ran "quick repair" which fixed the problem.  Then everything was fine until the September MS updates were received, and the same thing has happened.  Again I ran quick repair, and the documents are returned to normal.

The laptop I'm using did come with a trial version of Office 2007, which I removed/de-installed after the first problem in July.  But still the problem keeps coming back each month right after the MS monthly update is received.

Please help.

I have a problem with office word as it updates to save the text.

Posted: 13 Sep 2013 11:03 AM PDT

I have a problem with office word as it updates to save the text, it takes a long time. At first, I thought it was just the large amount of information I added. But, it don't have to be a large amount the whole system slows down even after five minutes of information I put inor add. In addition, the reference tab, in the drop box for in putting reference sources has less categories, and this takes away the quality of the program. That's because it's been forwarded to A's mailbox. If you granted rights to

Behalf Of - take those away & add Send As permissions in ADUC - security
tab), and A opens mail in B's inbox, and replies, it should send work fine -

Did you read the Help topic on the Restrict method? You need to specify what
field to look in as well as what value to look for:

strFind = "[MessageClass] = " & Chr(34) & "IPM.Contact" & Chr(34)
Set colItems = = myFolder.Items.Restrict(strFind)

Good eye! I had made the registry change on one of our BE servers but
not the other 2. I thought about that this morning as I was getting ready
to go to work. I assume that altering the cookie timeout parameter must be
made on both the FE and BE too?

Yes, that is strange behavior. Probably a combination of steps that the

This tool is what you need. The CRM Redeployment tools. These tools can
definately take a crm system from one active directory to another. In fact
Microsoft have told me that they could package up my entire CRM system using
this tool then bring it into their test domain if i needed advanced
troubleshooting. Microsoft also told me that it is VERY important to follow
all the guidelines in the tool and do not try to take shortcuts

Simple tip

read the implementation guide and follow what it says. If this is your first
install you may want to set up a test domain using virtualpc and do a test
install on that setup before deploying on your production servers.

Microsoft actually recommends that the first go offline is performed on your
office network as that is the one that takes the longest. However of course
you can do this over VPN but keep in mind that the sync could take at least
an hour maybe two. minimum dsl connection would have to be at least 512k
however these days anything over 1mb is good. There is no whitepaper
discussing this as it involves so many factors such as network speed, crm
server speed, client computer speed etc.

sounds like you removed the quantity field from the form, which is needed by one

If you pull all the code from the MSDN article and perge it together into one
module, and use the SQL scripts provided, it will work. It just takes some
patience and time.

I've asked my local MS to help, but they are just asking one-liner questions

So can I ask.....Please Would someone ZIP up a working solution as well as
the SQL script to use against the meta base and email it to me or post it on
this newgroup. That way I've eliminated all coding errors etc.

I don't mind if the example, writes to the MSMQ/ File or even says 'Hello
World' in the NT Event log, but I need to get started somewhere!

The only SQL script I've seen to use against the meta base for example,
referes to a column IsEnabled.....it seems in version 1.2 this column does
not exist or has changed to IsEnable, yet my questions to the local MS
office don't say 'Yes' or 'No'.
