Web to Lead or Web to Case

Posted: 23 Feb 2004 02:56 PM PST

If you want this all to happen automatically (rather than an email arriving
in a support queue and being manually assigned to someone)...

Microsoft Exchange server has events that can be attached to whenever an
email arrives. We once used it to receive EDI documents attached to emails,
and automatically submit them to BizTalk messaging. You could do the same
kind of thing for CRM using the CRM SDK. Your component that creates the
lead/case would need to run as a CRM user with enough permissions. If you
have a professional license for MSCRM, you would have received an additional
integration license (used for the BizTalk/GP integration), that you could
use for your component as well.

Service Portal provides Customers, Partners, and other external users a password protected web interface to initiate, view and update Service Cases in Microsoft CRM. Microsoft CRM users can make changes and add notes to Service Cases in Microsoft CRM that are viewable to users in the Service Portal. Service Portal is sold as a company site license.

PDA Sync

We have a solution for PDAs, but it does not have an offline database that syncs.

Mobile Portal for Microsoft CRM runs on Pocket PC, Smartphone, Palm and Blackberry devices. It is live information when connected to the CRM database. Disconnected you can view recently viewed information as cached information in the device browser (usually a few days to a few weeks depending on device cache memory size). Mobile Portal is currently priced at $199 per user which includes 1st year maintenance of 18%. It can be purchased through an authorized partner or directly from Dynamic Methods. www.dynamicmethods.ne

Questions about the CRM Sales for Outlook

Posted: 23 Feb 2004 06:09 AM PST

Good solution John, and in fact, disabling replication (dropping the merge
publications) seems to help with performance of the entire CRM system (look
in SQLProfiler to see how much noise replication generates). You can always
re-enable it later if you need it (there is a tech article on this).

The "Go Offline" option will still appear in the Outlook client, but the
user will get an error about not finding the publication if they try to go
offline. They will continue to be able to work in Online mode in Outlook.

CRM Licensing

Posted: 21 Feb 2004 02:04 AM PST

So in fact I can add licenses in standards form.

I have 18 licenses of Customer Service Professional, and therefore I can add
Sales Standard licenses.As long as I don't want users to have both at the
same time, which is fine.

Having Professional CS workflow, does this mean I can create workflow for
the Sales Standard too?

If this is the case why wasn't I told I only needed one Professional license
and the rest can be Standard?

Thanks for your input.

Paul-
You might take a look at a product called OmniRush. (www.omnirush.com)
It installs on a separate server, and can process mass mailings from many
different data sources.

What makes this product different than many other mass-mailing tools is its
ability to put history records back into CRM for mailings that are complete.
Hope this helps.

Product Comparison Table

Posted: 20 Feb 2004 01:20 PM PST

Hi Shauna, MSCRM was released at the same time in Canada and the US. I'm in
Canada, and we've been working with it for well over a year. Unfortunately
I'm not involved in the Sales end of MSCRM (we do customizations for
companies that own CRM, and for companies that sell it), so I can't give you
much help there.

You might want to try talking to Joe Horvath at iFusion CRM
(http://www.ifusioncrm.com)...I think they're the top MSCRM partner in
Canada, they have many MSCRM customers, and many of their staff have worked
for other CRM companies in the past, so they're quite knowledgable in terms
of product comparison.

Opportunity.RetrieveByObject not working??

Posted: 20 Feb 2004 07:36 AM PST

Hi Mike
Yes I'm sure I'm specifying the correct object ID and Type. I can retrive
the account id by retriving the opportunity using the Retrieve function but
when I try RetrieveByObject using the exact same account id I get nothing
!!!

Here is a code example I´m debuging, trying to figure this out. The {88C..
guid is the Opportunity I'm expecting to retrive from the RetrieveByObject
function. the {443... is the guid of the Account to whom the opportuniy
belongs to and I'm sucessfully retrieving out of the Retrieve function.

string strColumnSetXml = "<columnset>";

strColumnSetXml += "<column>opportunityid</column>";

strColumnSetXml += "<column>name</column>";

strColumnSetXml += "<column>accountid</column>";

strColumnSetXml += "</columnset>";

string strRetrOp =
opportunity.Retrieve(AuthenticateUser(),"{88C27AFB-9D9A-4891-BFFC-D40B9CBB1A
96}", strColumnSetXml);

Microsoft.CRM.Proxy.CObjectName objName = new
Microsoft.CRM.Proxy.CObjectName();

objName.Id = "{4431DC50-42D5-484F-80D0-0DB1D7A78126}";

objName.Type = Microsoft.CRM.Proxy.ObjectType.otAccount;

// Retrieve the opportunities that are associated with the account

string strRetByOb = opportunity.RetrieveByObject(AuthenticateUser(),
objName, strColumnSetXml);

See anything abnormal or any ideas??

These are most likely related. Do you have the Indexing service
enabled?

Check you SQL job for the full text update refresh and view the

try the search again.

Hi Chey, just add the appropriate index to the object's table in the MSCRM

Note, you may need to disable replication to add the index. You can then
re-enable replication by running the p_CRMReplicationSetup script with the
proper parameters for your install.

Yes, it won't let you save and close, but it will let you close without

If you can't live with it, you might want to add a custom hook into the

I have done the e-courses. There are not bad. More valuable is the material

Need to hide chapter number

Posted: 15 Feb 2013 08:53 AM PST

I want to use Chapter Numbers in my document so that my page numbers show them (1-1, 4-13) but I do not want the "Chapter x" to show in the text of the document or in TOC. I read an earlier post that had this link http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/TOCTips.htm#UnnumberedHeadings as the answer. I did read this, but I confess I am still somewhat muddled as to how to apply this to my document. Is there a way to get the Chapter feature to work for the page numbers, but to effectively "hide" it from view on the document? Or am I going about this all wrong?

Restrict Save with PW using Wword 2010

How do I restrict Saveing a document with Word 2010 like I did with a "SaveAs" in earlier versions and adding a password?  I want to allow changes to the document, but i don't want to allow anyone to save those changes!  I can't find a process in Word 2010 short of using content protection which then disallows changes to the content in "run' mode.

Different "button" than the mailmerge button on a page?

Posted: 14 Feb 2013 02:02 PM PST

Hi all,

I have inherited some templates to update.  One of them uses the macrobutton field to fire a macro e.g.

MACROBUTTON  DeleteThisSection "Double-click if owned"

I asked the user who set it up why they used a macrobutton and they said so that it would not print (they set the font to "No color" so it does indeed not print).  The problem is, on some user's machines, if they do not have "field shading" turned on from within Word options, they cannot see this "button".

Is there any other type of object in Word - a true "command button" that I can place on the form that the user can use to fire a macro AND that does not show up when printing?

I also looked for an "OnPrint()" method that I could insert some code into to get rid of these fields first (so that I could change the font on these macro buttons to black instead).

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Albert Gostick

Text Form Field in Word form doesn't auto-update automatically consistently right away

Posted: 13 Feb 2013 12:31 PM PST

I created a form in Word 2010 that contains many Text Form Fields.  I want 3 of the Text Form Fields to auto-populate 3 other Text Form Fields in the document.  2 of the Text Form Fields auto-populate automatically just fine, but for some odd reason the third one doesn't update consistently right away (even though I created all 3 of them the same way).  The third field either doesn't update or it takes a while to update or it updates after I enter data in other fields.

This is how I linked the Text Form Fields:

1.       Right-clicked the field I wanted to auto-populate.

2.       Selected "Properties."

3.       Set the "Type" to "Calculation."

4.       In the Expression Box entered "REF" and then a space and then the bookmark name of the Text Form Field that contains the data I want it to pull from.

5.       Checked "Calculate on exit."

6.       Clicked "OK."

Note:  I want the fields to update automatically as the user tabs to the next field; I do not want the user to have to manually update the fields, so I decided to link the fields rather than use cross-references.  And as I previously mentioned, this does work correctly for 2 of the fields, but not for the third field.  Strange…

I'm trying to find a program or a process to completely uninstall office 2002 and 2003. When you uninstall office, it leaves behind a bunch of objects in the registry, and in your settings. I know that office 2000 had a program (earaser2k) that would remove most of the leftover objects from the programs, and I was wondering if there was a similar program for office 2002 and 2003, or if there is a list of registry objects that I need to remove. Thanx!

And also note that Office 2000 CDs are no longer carried by Microsoft so the
only way is to find an online seller or an auction.

Are you using the larger, full patches that are made for patching the admin install points? There are the binary (diff) patches that require the source media (or a LIS cache on the client), and then there are the full patch files that do not require the source. The full patch is what you need. These can be used to patch an admin install point created by running setup /a OR they can be used to patch a client PC that does not have the source media or LIS. Do not run the patches from CD (or other read-only media).

Partitions for two versions of Word

If you wish to avoid the "now installing" prompt each time you switch
versions of Word, installing on a second OS partition or in a Virtual PC
session makes sense. Personally, I would use a VPC session.

network/ server version of Office?

Posted: 11 Jun 2004 01:51 PM PDT

I am not a Microsoft representative. The MVP is a designation I earned for
past contributions to news groups, both here and in Outlook groups.

As for a network friendly version of Office, it is a local program, not
suited for networking. You can perform an administrative installation and
install locally from that point or you can use Terminal Services.

Please explain what you mean by a "network friendly version" then - do you
mean where the application is installed on the network and people can open
applications without having the program installed locally? That would be
terminal services. If you mean something else, please explain. I am not
being argumentative, just curious as to what you mean by your statement.

For future reference (and perhaps this one currently) you can contact
Microsoft about product features you would like to see in future versions -
com and put Office in the subject line. Microsoft does
read these mails and has a database they keep to track the most often
requested features. That is how Calendar Coloring finally rose to the top
for Outlook.

emails being redirected and binding messages

Posted: 16 Jul 2004 01:53 PM PDT

Whenever I try to email clients on the Xchng 2k server from a public email engine, the mail automatically gets redirected to our ISP, which forces it to our address that the ISP gave to us for our DSL connection. Example: If I email from hotmail to soandso@<ourdomain.org>, it goes to ****@<ourisp.net>.

Also, whenever I try to enter the ip addresses of the dns servers that are forwarding to our domain in the "configure external DNS servers for this virtual server" properties box I get a "Binding is not unique" message and it won't accept the changes. Even after I changed the DNS entries in the NIC.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thank you for your assistance.

This will require a 3rd party Exchange AV solution which you really should
have anyways.
Trend Scanmail and Sybari Antigen are the top picks.

Shutdown takes long time, the longest living bug in Exchange :-)

Posted: 15 Jul 2004 09:34 AM PDT

The problem is in NT4.0, NT4.0 SP1, NT4.0 SP2, NT4.0 SP3, NT4.0 SP4, NT4.0 SP5, NT4.0 SP6, Win 2000, Win 2000 SP1, Win 2000 SP2, Win 2000 SP3, Win 2000 SP4, Microsoft Windows 2003, and if we are lucky we will have it in Microsoft Windows 2003 SP1 and Microsoft Windows 2003 Release 2 :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

These OS's + Microsoft Exchange 5.5 (1996 or 97 if I am not wrong), Exchange 5.5 SP1, SP2, SP.., Microsoft Exchange Server 2000, 2000 SP1, 2000 Sp..., Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, and 2003 SP1

And if we are very luck we may have it in Microsoft Windows / Exchange Server Longhorn :-)

It happened with the domain controller, it happens with the active directory, and it will happen with the future "whatever its name" user management system, this bug will live for ever, otherwise how can you know if exchange is instaled ;-)

I know it is not a big deal, until the power cuts, the UPS goes off, tries to shutdown the server, and then .... :-) , I know, the power goes off once or twice a year (if there is a storm or heavy rain), and for you it is not a big deal, it is normal to lose a server once a year, nice :-) "otherwise how can you know it is a Microsoft product :-)"

How many times you must shutdown your server? On every damn security update!

By the way, I know there are a lot of workarounds, like running a script or changing the registry, but isn't time to fix that bug?

Thank You

Junction Points Dilema

Posted: 08 Jul 2004 08:42 AM PDT

I am, to put it mildly, very confused.
When I check the related folders, no junction points are shown.
If I generate a junction point it shows up in the directory listing as a
JUNCTION rather than a DIR.
The unwanted view on the desktop and in the SCRIPTS folder only show up as a
DIR yet they are all views of the same location. Even the active directory
on the sister server shows the same content.
What is the difference between these special folders and other junction
objects?
If LINKD or JUNCTION say there are no linked folders yet a change in any of
the images of the folders shows up in all, therefore they are one and the
same, what tools do I need to break this imaging.
