Word App on iPad Posted: 30 Jan 2015 01:32 PM PST Following recent Updates to Office App on IOS, my iPad will not complete the loading of the Word App. It looks like it slowly updates, but only gets to two thirds of the way through and then hangs. Tried deleting it, but does not disappear and also tried downloading it from the store again, but stops again at them same point. all other Apps have updated fine. The non update of Word is also affecting the opening/viewing of Word docs from OneDrive. They will not open from within OneDrive yet all other application docs will. How can I clear the Word App? Do I just have to wait for Microsoft to do a new version and hope that one loads without issue? Help! |
Page View limited by Page Breaks Posted: 30 Jan 2015 09:45 AM PST Hello, When I insert a page break in the middle of a page via a Word2007 docx, that page visually appears as a half page on my screen - instead of appearing as a whole page. The work around i have now is just to insert blank lines in the half page to increase its visual appearance to be that of a whole page. So why does a page break when inserted into the middle of the page produces a half page? I have fiddle and browsed around the page view options and zooming, etc... to see if i can look (and work on) the half page as though it was full size. but no luck. thanks for any help. |

"less than or equivalent to" math symbol Posted: 30 Jan 2015 06:50 AM PST Has anyone notice that the advanced relational operator "greater than or equivalent to" looks nice, but that its partner, "less than or equivalent to" looks amateurish? (Word 2010 Equation Tools) Is there a way to fix this? Better yet, is there a way to build up my own custom symbols by stacking other symbols? A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I used to use TeX, in which I could do exactly that kind of thing... |
I cannot get the field code "styleref" to display the correct text in header on second page Posted: 30 Jan 2015 05:39 AM PST I am working on improving the template for a document created by our company. I have used "Style Ref" to get the document to fill in document title etc in the header. The problem appears when trying to get it to show the correct Revision and Revision date. The previous information shall not be deleted from the front page. To give an example: 03 | 03.03.2015 | Final | 02 | 16.02.2015 | Second Issue | 01 | 30.01.2015 | First Issue | All three instances of revision number is the same style "Rev". Now comes the tricky part. The header on the front page is blank, and I am trying to get the header on the second page (and the rest of the document) to show text on the front page. This will not work as I want it to. It keeps showing the most recent use of the style "Rev", 01. I want it to show the newest revision, 03. Is this in ANY way possible? (I am using word 2010) Other information that might be relevant; The header on the front page is blank. As a test I tried to make the headers look the same and insert the StyleRef in the Front page header. In the Front page header it works "as it should", or in other words the inserted StyleRef inserts the first instance of "Rev", 03. (I.e. word is searching from top of page to bottom)When doing the exact same thing in the header on the second page, nothing happens. It does not want to find ANY of the instances of "Rev". However I don't trust this to always be the case, as the multiple tests I have tried today have not always had the same outcome. Seems to be a bit buggy. Someone please help! :) |
Default bullets in Word 2013 Posted: 30 Jan 2015 03:13 AM PST I am creating a template for which I have created styles, including bullet and numbered lists. However, I would like the user to be able to click the "bullets" or "numbering" buttons on the Home tab to format bulleted and numbered lists. The users are not sophisticated enough to remember to apply one of my created styles. They should be able to rely on the buttons to do the formatting. How do I format the styles that apply to the buttons? What are the styles called? How do I access them? When I use the buttons, it indents the list 0.2" and adds space between the bulleted or numbered lines. I want lists that are flush left with no space between lines. Also, it calls the style in the bulleted or numbered list the name of my "normal" style, which I call HT Body Text. I have experimented with "List Bullet" and "List Paragraph" styles. I format them and they behave, until I create a new list and then all of the lists jump back to 0.2" indentation. Thanks, Billy8b8 |

Can't search for three dots in Word Posted: 30 Jan 2015 02:13 AM PST I have to seach for all instances of three dots in a document (...) and replace them with space + three dots ( ...). But the search function can't find any three dot instances in the document even though there are tons of them. I figure it's because Word autoformats them - every time you type three dots followed by a space word pulls the dots a bit apart making more space between them. So I tried to copy three dots from the document and paste them into the search field but that can't be done either. What to do? It's Office for Mac by the way. |
Hyperlinks not working correctly when converting word doc to Web Page, Filtered Posted: 30 Jan 2015 02:02 AM PST I have created a word document (MS Word 2013) with Table of Contents and their links to particular sections and all the hyperlinks works fine in the word document. But when I convert this document into Web Page, Filtered then after a specific point the hyperlinks not pointing to their respective sections instead they are pointed to the end of the page. I have checked the page source of the HTML document and found that the table of contents have hyper links but the respective sections doesn't have the hyper link code and hence click on the a section didn't find the that section and go to the end of the document. Please advise me how to resolve this issue. |

Word Temporary Files Creation Posted: 29 Jan 2015 08:16 PM PST Dear Community, Okay, I have Word 2003 on Vista OS. Lately, every time I create a Word document a bunch of temporary files are created also for that document. This is how they are titled ~$ and they are always greyed out. If I close the folder and come back to it later the temporary files have disappeared, but then they appear again for each new document I create. I have gone to the help and support section and entered the topic of temporary files for Word and all it has information on are Internet temporary files. I have tried entering the topic in the Word help box but that didn't give any information either. Today I decided to save a Word file to my desktop, not in a folder, and it of course created a temporary file as well. Now I can't delete the darn thing because Wndows says it is no longer located in C:\Users drive and to verify the location, software speak for we don't know what to tell you HAHAHAH! Anyhow I'd like to find out what I can do to resolve this issue. Many thanks for your advice in advance. Pat |
Problems with word wrap around page-sized textboxes Posted: 29 Jan 2015 05:59 PM PST Hi, I'm working on formatting my dissertation, and one of the formatting requirements is that figures need to be on their own page after the text they are referenced in. what I've done is created a textbox that fills the entire page, put my figure into the textbox, and then set up the word wrap to go around the text. Theoretically, I assumed that this would mean that the text would flow naturally around the page with the figure in it. Unfortunately, it seems that not only does the text not flow around naturally, it stops much earlier than the picture and there is one line that's "caught" under the textbox. I've attached a screenshot. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thank you very much! |
Margin errors in Word 2013 Posted: 29 Jan 2015 04:07 PM PST I lost a word document a while ago but had saved it in .pdf format through Acrobat XI Pro. I opened that .pdf document and saved it as a "Word" document. Disaster. ALL text was converted to disconnected text boxes. I then tried saving the .pdf file (again through Acrobat) into an older "Word 97-2003" format. Good so far, regular flowing text from page to page, no text boxes. I then saved that document into "Word" format, which is Word 2013. Disaster again. This time I noticed that my margins were chaotic, not conforming to any pre-set format, they would not even conform to the existing, odd Custom Margin settings. When I select Custom Margins (using the current values) I get the same error message described next. In attempting to change the margins I get the margin-error-of-death message: "Settings you chose for the left and right margins, column spacing, or paragraph indents are too large for the page width in some sections." Word 2013 doesn't have the Ignore selection or Fix option, just the error message. I have searched for answers online and only get typical "how to" instructions for setting margins in virgin documents and how to change margins in existing documents. I came across some advice about how page settings must match printer capabilities. I checked both printers I use and no problems there. I want typical margins of 1" left, top, and right and .75" bottom. No luck, ever. Any thoughts other than trying magic? |

Shifts in Formatting Posted: 29 Jan 2015 03:59 PM PST I send a couple of documents a day out to clients who review and then send them to others for approval. About 10% of the docs I send reach the supervisor with formatting errors: table of contents in blue font without page numbers, extra line spacing, delete tab stops, deleted page breaks, deleted spaces in text, etc. I know from experience that if any person in the link uses an IPad or older Mac, this happens more frequently. I always save in 97-2003 doc, which helps some, but I cannot completely resolve this issue. This most frustrating problem surely has a solution. (I use Word 2010.) Thoughts? |
Word 2007 doesn't create hyperlink when Enter is pressed Posted: 29 Jan 2015 03:34 PM PST Hello, I recently installed Office 2007 on a new PC. Word 2007 is missing a behavior I relied on a lot with Word 2007 on my previous computer. On the old PC when I type a valid URL or email address and hit Enter the URL or email address would immediately become a hyperlink. It doesn't do that in the new installation. I am able to create a hyperlink using the context menu or the Insert menu but I prefer to have the old behavior restored. I must have inadvertently changed an option but cannot find it now. Any help will be appreciated a lot! Thanks, - Dave McKeen |
