Microsoft Office docs won't open on my PC, but will when I send them to my iPad

Posted: 02 Nov 2014 11:56 AM PST

Hello,

A few weeks ago my old PC crashed.  I've now got a new one, and re-installed Microsoft Office 2007 (from a new disk, not from the disk I used on the old PC).  I've transferred my old word docs from my portable (back up) hard drive back to the PC, but two in particular are not opening for me.  On my PC, they're telling me they have a few hundred Kbs each, but when I try to open them (they're password protected, in case that makes any difference) I'm being told there are 0 words there.

Yet, when I email these same docs to myself and open them on my iPad, they're there and completely read-able.  I don't have microsoft word for ipad, and would like to be able to add to these docs, so I would be REALLY grateful if anyone could tell me what's gone wrong and how to fix it.

Thanks.

Office 2013 won't open

Posted: 02 Nov 2014 09:43 AM PST

I recently downloaded office 2013 and did some work on it. However, I came to print off my English coursework and office won't work at all. I tried all the applications and they didn't work, I also tried to reinstall it through the shortcut in the menu of windows 8.1 but noting happened at all. This is the message I've been given:

Winwordexe- Application error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application

I therefore cannot access word, or any other office 2013 product

Trying to set up Word for iPad

Posted: 02 Nov 2014 08:36 AM PST

I already have MS office 20008 for my personal iMac and now I want to be able to utilize the Word app for iPad.  Here is my issue:

I downloaded the app and created a Microsoft ID.  I then selected "activate" and subscribed as a single user for $6.99/month.  I received a receipt from the iTunes store for the subscription.  I keep getting asked to sign in with my Office 365 id/password. I don't have one.  I've tried using the Microsoft id that i created as well as my Apple ID.

How do I access the subscription that I just purchased?

Thanks,

John

Why is Microsoft making Word files Read-only?  Does the illustrious Microsoft team have a way of fixing this problem? It is annoying and time wasting.

I cant get microsoft word or excel to work on my laptop, how do i fix it?

Missing Spaces Between some words in WORD document.

Posted: 02 Nov 2014 01:08 AM PDT

Hello. I am using MS Office 2013 Professional PLUS.

Once I send a completely formatted document to another person, he sees many formatting issues mainly missing spaces in a lot of places. Two or three words join together eliminating the spaces.

Being a researcher is is embarrassing when one is asked by the supervisor or reviewer to get the whole document proofread before sending them the final copy. I do not understand how to avoid this problem.

Please Advice.!!!

Index problem

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 11:36 PM PDT

I have carefully checked my index marks in the text, which are: (I used the separator ": ")

{ XE \F "S" "evolution:fossils:1"}

{XE \F "S" "evolution:fossils:5"}

{ XE \F "S" "evolution:fossils:2"}

{ XE \F "S" "evolution:fossils:4"}

{XE \F "S" "evolution:fossils:DNA, and" \r "Z_D9F" }

but instead of collecting them under the one subheading "fossils" which should give this, omitting the main heading:

fossils

  rarity of: 193

  1: 193

  5: 195

  2: 195

  4: 195

  DNA, and: 193–95

what I get is this:

fossils

   rarity of: 193

fossils

   1: 193

fossils

   5: 195

fossils

   2: 195

fossils

   4: 195

fossils

   DNA, and: 193–95

I did a repair of the document which made no difference. I had this happen once before but can't recall how I solved it. Any ideas?

Pasting from another app causes word 2013 on ipad to crash

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 10:08 PM PDT

I am trying to overcome a problem whereby I can make a straight line sit accurately either as a vertical or horizontal line (asked for help in a different post) so was looking for an alternative option by copying the required shape from a slide in Powerpoint. But everything I try to paste causes word to crash. I have tried creating the shape in other drawing or note taking app and same thing happens. Any suggestions?

Autorecover FAILURE

Posted: 01 Nov 2014 09:29 PM PDT

I have just spent 2.6 hours adding to and updating my document.

When I attempted to put a text box around some text WORD crashed.

To begin with, I was not concerned, I have recovered unsaved documents dozens of times.

However, to my dismay, there has been no update in the AUTORECOVER directory for the last 6 days.

This just happened to be when I performed a SNAPSHOT restore to a week previous.

Congratulations yet again Microsoft.

Is there some way that the integrity of "the Office Suite" can be verified before anther one of these giant "gothchas"

rears its head?

The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag

 I have a file that has become corrupted with the above error.

I have tried editing the document.xml with notepad++ and running with Firefox then applying the recommended actions.

I must have missed something though as I can't get it to open.

I'm not the best with XML and could only follow the firefox instructions so don't know what I'm actually looking for.

There are no formulas in the document thus no m:oMath tags.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have uploaded a copy of the file here:
