Hi Andreas,

I typed "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" into the command line and went
through the step by step process. I changed the mouse device to /dev/psaux.
However, I am still getting a similar error.

Log file:

You'll probably have to provide more information.

* Are the sound modules loading?

* Are you getting error messages at boot time, perhaps indicating
the card isn't found?

* Did you try using a mixer to ensure that the controls are set properly?

What do "they say in support on linspire.com"?

This is a sign the hardware is not defective.

I had no luck getting my sound unmuted under Debian (kernel 2.4) using
ALSA 1.01 or 1.04. The OSS modules worked properly. After installing
kernel 2.6 on the same system, my ALSA problems went away.

What caused the problems? I don't know.

Please help with fc2 / screen problem!

Caveat: I am not running RedHat/Fedora anymore.

A quick check of the download site for Fedora shows it is using x.org's X

to your problem. BTW, I switched from RedHat to get away from relying on
wizards to solve problems.

does this refer to a configuration file?

Thank you for your help! I'll go ahead and use the 14gig hd.

To answer your questions about my system:

CPU: AMD 2500 with Barton core
RAM: 512 megs of pc 3700 ram. (I may be wrong about the ram specs)

It's an adequate systems for what I do, which is audio editing and games.

Thanks again.

That's why it's always run, irrespective of login shell, and was ( and I

I haven't worked with Gentoo in ages, so I can't help you there.
However, I have had two people tell me that they installed Mandrake 10.0
