In Outlook? A simple drag and drop works from MB to PF (yes, moving).
PF to PF is a copy operation unless you right click-drag and select
move.
Not sure of a way to change that behaviour in Outlook. Perhaps an
Outlook group might be able to suggest something.

and then see the articles on the client side. I will assume the server

It would be good, if you do need more help, if you could elaborate on
what you're troubleshooting, and how.

Problem with such solution is you need to hava a mailbox to see a PF right?
And if you have a mailbox you can send mail. This should not be possible.

Help - Outlook 2003 removed Exchange folder

Posted: 13 Feb 2007 01:45 PM PST

I located the folder. During the installation (or first connection) it had
been moved from the Exchange Server mailbox to my HD and saved as a .pst
file in a different location than Outlook 2003 was looking.

Ex2007 Header Info Leakage - somewhat urgent

Posted: 13 Feb 2007 01:01 PM PST

You will need to run the outbound mail through a 3rd party gateway or
firewall that will cleanup the internal headers. I have had security people
raise this issue with me before. I don't think it is too big of a deal, but
I do see their point. The less you reveal about your internal network, the
better off you are.

I am not aware of any software that will cleanup the headers, but I think
CheckPoint has some firewall software that will do it. No version of
Exchange does this. I suspect they don't because it breaks RFC compliance
or something.

Installing Exchange 2003 Server Standard Edition alongside ISA Ser

That is how they got in so much trouble during the Win98/Win2000 days when
"giving the customer what they want" was considered more important than what was
"more secure" and the proper way to do something.

Old habits die hard I guess.

Restoring Reminders

Posted: 13 Feb 2007 09:41 AM PST

Well, I'm no Outlook expert so I think it best if you go into the
Outlook group and ask this question. Make sure you tell them that one
of the Exchange boys pointed you at the Outlook switch website and
which ones you had a punt at and that they didn't do you any good.
Sorry I couldn't help you all the way.

Email Delivery location?

Posted: 13 Feb 2007 05:38 AM PST

Thanks for checking. It is not that much of an issue to make it worth
running against all workstations. Just wanted to get backup the explain why
a remote mailbox when viewed from a secondary computer would have email show
in the inbox for a second or two and then dis appear. I figured it was due
to them forwarding or having another instance of outlook open that was
delivering to a PST. Again though, thanks for chcking and letting me know!!

OAB - Access Denied

Posted: 13 Feb 2007 02:53 AM PST

Don't worry about the last test, you don't have the version for web
distribution. You can run Test Email-Auto configuration from outlook and get
the OAB url and append /oab.xml to the end of it to see if you can get to
your CAS server (this will take you to your iis share).

You didnt happen to change the permissons on your IIS server or file share ?

You also have to remember that users in OWA look at the gal differently than
users that use Outlook. OWA used OU based querying over the gal.

Exchange Server Lost

I agree for the most part but we must also consider that the admin has
concluded that the manager is incorrect in this decision. This clearly puts
the initiative on the admin to either correct this error or to live with the
consequences.

Another way to address this problem may to consider the training aspect.
I'm assuming that the the Desktop team are MCP/MCSA qualified or equivalent
and that the Server team are MCSE/MCSE+Messaging qualified. This could be
used as a lever to convince the managers that all but the most superficial
(creating accounts and managing distro group ownership) should remain with
the Server team. The managers wins a partial victory by getting at least
part of what he/she/they want and the Server team sheds the tedious part of
managing the Exchange farm while remaining engaged in the more significant
activities previously mentioned.

For what its worth, as a manager, I would be rather keen to see my engineers
taking steps towards understanding and participating in management decision
making processes especially where they can support their position with an
established framework such as Cobit or ITIL. This doesn't mean that you have
to sell the whole management framework concept to the admin or the company
but it demonstrates a level of understanding of how the IT infrastructure
(not the technology) fits into the business plan.

Kind Regards,

Denny

Office 2007 Silent Repair and Uninstall Scripts

Posted: 21 Feb 2007 12:03 PM PST

Hi Loc750,

In your sample command lines you don't appear to be calling the specific config.xml file.

For a repair you generally shouldn't need to reaccept the EULA.

The Installation .msp file generally would be for initial installation.

=================
<<"Loc750" <microsoft.com> wrote in message news:com...
According to your link, I do not need CompletionNotice, SuppressModal,
NoCancel, or AcceptEULA since Display Level is set to None, so I tried
<Configuration Product="ProPlus">
<Display Level="None" />
<Setting Id="Reboot" Value="Never" />
</Configuration>

Neither the repair (setup.exe /repair ProPlus) or uninstall (setup.exe
/uninstall ProPlus) are silent and both want to reboot. I tried uninstalling
and reinstalling and got the same result. I had already set the Display
Element settings in the Display level section of the Office Customization
Tool (OCT), but there is also the Setting Element. I went back and took a
second look at Modify Setup properties and added SETUP_REBOOT and set it to
Never. The OCT says Modify Setup properties settings only apply to new
installs, so again I uninstalled and reinstalled. The result is the same they
are not silent and both want to reboot.

I'm thinking that Config.xml and the OCT's .msp only apply to installs
because I've never had a problem installing Office 2007 silently and without
reboot in either .bat scripts or SMS advertisements.

Deploy MS Office 2007 by GPO

Posted: 21 Feb 2007 01:49 AM PST

Hi Sundace,

For Office 2007 and the new setup.exe program and tools, which use .MSP (MS Installer Patch files) for customizations and multiple
..MSI files for deployment of Office products the use of GPO for deployment isn't the MS recommended approach. GPO deployment
doesn't support the use of .MSP files, so you'll need to work with the config.xml and scripting to some extent to sort of 'roll your
own'.

You'll be able to use the Office policies for the deployment

Office 2007 setup problems

Posted: 19 Feb 2007 07:28 PM PST

Hi,

I have received your update message with log files. As the application
event log is in the language of Dutch, it is almost impossible for me to
take a look into it as I know nothing about Dutch. Besides, I did not see
any unusual thing in the setup logs.

In this point, I would like to confirm with you if you have tried to run
Vista in Safe Mode and test this issue again. If you do, please tell me the
results. I have listed the steps below for your convenience:

* Perform a Safe Mode in Windows Vista
=======================

1. Restart Windows.
2. At the boot sequence, long press F8 key to invoke startup menu.
3. Choose Safe Mode on the menu and press Enter.
4. After Windows starts in Safe Mode, install again and determine if this
issue still persists.

Meanwhile, you can also try this suggestion:

* Perform a Clean Boot in Vista
======================

1. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press
ENTER.
2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then clear the Load
system services and Load Startup Items check boxes. You cannot clear the
Use Original Boot.ini check box.
3. On the Services tab, select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box,
and then click Disable All.
4. Click OK, and then click Restart to restart the computer.
5. After Windows starts, determine whether the symptoms still occur.

Note: Look closely at the General tab to make sure that the check boxes
that you cleared are still cleared. Continue to step 6 if all of the check
boxes are cleared. If the Load System Services check box is the only
disabled check box, the computer is not clean-booted. If additional check
boxes are disabled and the issue is not resolved, you may require help from
the manufacturer of the program that puts a check mark back in Msconfig.

If all of the check boxes are cleared, and the issue is not resolved, you
may have to repeat steps 1 through 5. However, you may also have to clear
the Load System Services check box on the General tab. This temporarily
disables Microsoft services (such as, Networking, Plug and Play, Event
Logging, and Error Reporting) and permanently deletes all restore points
for the System Restore utility. Do not do this if you want to keep your
restore points for System Restore or if you must use a Microsoft service to
test the issue.

6. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press
ENTER.
7. On the General tab, select the Load system services check box, click
OK, and then click Restart to restart the computer. If the issue continues,
the issue is with one of the System services. If the issue does not
continue, repeat this step for the Load Startup Items check box. After the
issue occurs, the last item that you selected is the item where the issue
is occurring.

Please try this and tell me what happened.

Leon Hao

How to stop bubbles that announce supposed language changes in Track Changes?

Posted: 26 Jul 2014 02:26 PM PDT

I am reviewing a document that was written in US English.  I changed the proofing language to UK English.   Now the spell checker only points out existing words with US English spelling.  Therefore, it looks like UK English applies to the whole document.

However, balloons that say "Formatting: UK English" appear below every comment.

In addition, in some sections but not everywhere, "Formatting: UK English" balloons also accompany text changes.

Since I would like changes in format to be tracked, Formatting is checked under Show Markup.

I would appreciate answers to two questions:

  1. Why does UK English not appear to be accepted throughout the document?  That is, what causes the bubbles to appear?  The entire document should already be using UK English.
  2. How do I get rid of the "Formatting: UK English" bubbles?

Thank you for whatever insights you can offer.

Problem using hyperlinks on Microsoft Works 9

Posted: 26 Jul 2014 12:28 PM PDT

I am using Microsoft Works 9 to do an assignment for work. I am producing a bibliography on the word processor which uses hyperlinks. The links to the relevant websites are all on there and I am able to control and click on them. The weird thing is that the only way that I can get the internet to open up and show the hyperlink is by clicking once on the live search box in the top right corner of the screen. This is very annoying and odd. Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can simply control and click on the hyperlink and the relevant webpage appears?

MS Word 2013, outline view defaults corrupted

Posted: 26 Jul 2014 12:09 PM PDT

I am using office 2013 with windows 7 pro 64 bit.  I have a file that I use almost always in outline view.  Now, for whatever reason when I switch it to outline view, the type size on the screen is too small to read.  In draft view, text that is 12 point font when switched to outline view is not even readable.  It looks like font size 3 or 4 point.  And if I start a new blank document, the same thing happens.  I can type in 12 pt in draft view, then switch to outline view and the text is unreadable.  I have tried reformatting the list using the multi-level list feature with no success.

How can I fix this?

VBA Word won't save if box is copied in

Posted: 26 Jul 2014 08:28 AM PDT

I have searched the net for this solution and haven't found anything yet.  I have a VBA program that automates assembly of Word 2010 documents from other docs using mostly copy/pasting and bookmark insertions.  (Windows 7 Enterprise) All of a sudden, one template won't save after copying in from another document.  Here is the code that errors:

'get starting doc w macro (styletemplate) Set mydoc = wrd.Documents.Open(strformattemplate, False, False) 'this is the base doc with styles - this save works fine mydoc.SaveAs2 filename:=strNewName,FileFormat:=wdFormatXMLDocumentMacroEnabled 'here's our skeleton this is what we want to copy in Set skel = wrd.Documents.Open(skelpath) Set rangetocopy = skel.Range(0, skel.Bookmarks("\endofdoc").End) rangetocopy.copy ' copy to clipboard 'copy in the skeleton and close it Set workingrange = mydoc.Range(0, mydoc.Bookmarks("\endofdoc").End) workingrange.Paste mydoc.Save 'here's where it's failing skel.Close False

What is happening is that at the second save the document won't save. There is an endless pop-up that appears and it won't save no matter what I do.  The user must abort everything at that point.  I want to emphasize that this code works fine on all other templates, it's just one that if fails.  I have isolated the piece that I am trying to paste in, and it appears to fail if one shape (a box that is an underline for a header) is included.  Boxes like this appear in the first page of each chapter, and all the other ones work fine.  I am totally stumped!  Any help or guidance would be MUCH appreciated!!!

How do I stop a graphic from moving into the header when I move it to the top of the page?

Posted: 26 Jul 2014 08:14 AM PDT

In Word 2010, I have created headers and footers with 1-inch margins. While working in the main body of the document, if I try to move a graphic that is part of the main body to just below the margin, it pops into the header, even though the header isn't open. I can't figure out why it does this or how to make it stop. I haven't seen this problem listed elsewhere and I haven't had this problem before.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hidden Text - How to restrict view

Posted: 26 Jul 2014 05:30 AM PDT

I am working in a mail merge document (Excel is the data source).  On the merge form I hid specific text (it is in its own section) that I never want others to see after completion of the mail merge. Basically, I do not want individuals to view the hidden text.  Is there a way to protect the document section and still allow others to make edits on the rest of the document?  Once others complete edits, etc.  I would like to be able to view the document in its entirety.

Word 2007 - Visual Basics on a Protected document

Posted: 25 Jul 2014 07:31 PM PDT

First, I am a beginner at this whole Visual Basics and Marcos tool on Word. So I apologize in advance if I am using the wrong term.

I created a form in Word 2010 using Visual Basics.

After creating the form, I realized there are a few in our office that still use Word 2007.

So I re-created the form in 2007.

I want to be able to run the visual basic macros while the document is protected.

It works in 2010, but in 2007.

Anyone have a solution??

Greatly appreciate the assistants!

This document is locked by another user!

Posted: 25 Jul 2014 07:19 PM PDT

Okay, so I have Word 2013. I've been trying to write a book, but for some reason it repeatedly removes all my changes and spits out this error message, "This document is locked for editing by another user," even if I've copied the whole book, pasted it in another document, and haven't opened it on any other device/word processor. And, for some reason, whenever I am to look at it on Word Online, I find the document there, with all my changes, even though I edited it in the desktop version!

What's going on?

format problem?

Posted: 25 Jul 2014 05:32 PM PDT

I've solved a couple of problems here before and so, after more than a few hours of trying to solve another one which, I am fairly certain, is a simple-answered problem, I will turn to it, once again. I had Microsoft Word 1997-2003 but changed to office 4.0.1 a while back and this particular problem stems from a manuscript that is 22 chapters long and which the first 75 or so pages are formatted correctly at .076 or 3/4" margins but the remainder are still the original .50, or 1/2". So, I tried to (re) format a page from scratch and then put the whole 375 pages on, 22 stories. The first 5 stories remained (re) formatted perfectly but when I got to the sixth story all the way to the last, every page, was still formatted at the previous margins of 50, or 1/2". Does anyone have any answer, I've tried a lot of stuff but none of it seems to work.

How to mount a NFS From Linux on Windows

Posted: 06 Sep 2006 01:41 PM PDT

If you want to mount an nfs share on windows, you need software like
"pcnfs". It mounts nfs shares on windows. Sun used to sell this
program and it was also available from other vendors like Chameleon.
Some of the programs are just nfs clients (i.e. you can mount nfs
drives on windows). Others acted as nfs servers too, you could
"export" (share) your windows drive and read it under Linux (or SunOS
or any other version of Unix). However, I haven't used any of those
programs since around windows 3.x time frame (maybe win2k). It is
quite possible that none of them have been ported to run in xp, or
that the vendors no longer market them. NFS is a good protocol, in
that it is peer-to-peer, but it is relatively insecure. I got my only
computer virus by having NFS on one of my linux machines when it
wasn't behind a firewall that prevented outside access to the nfs
port.

Instead, the common mechanism these days is to set up a samba server
on linux. Samba runs the same protocol that windows servers uses to
share drives.

I am using IDE but I am also using SW raid, not a HW controller in the
motherboard (the motherboard doesn't have one). The processor is a 1GHZ
Duron and seems up to the task of reading/writing. I am using separate
controllers for the disks, all on the same motherboard but different
controllers for each as there are four on the board (Promise
Ultra-ATA). The problem seems unique to rm.

I was not trying to move the linux onto windows (fat|ntfs) partitions,
but simply to copy ext2 (linux) partitions from one machine to another
and then boot them. The machine I was moving from also was a dual
boot machine and had (I thought) the same geometry and partition
structure, and also the same devices (e.g. same video card and
screen, same ethernet and wireless). It should have been a no-brainer.

It's all mostly a moot point, because I've already decided to bite the
bullet and install a new copy of CentOS.

You win, Beavis.

Smacking your bitch up isn't that complicated, Beavis. Anyone can do it.

And see above, left, and right.

But he's not a Beavis, so he can figure it out fairly quickly.

Spam isn't anywhere the problem you think it is, Beavis.

Double-duh.

And you're doing a good job of it.

Don't strain your brain too much, Beavis. Or it'll deflate.

Perhaps, Beavis, you should give it a try after you finally finish off "The
Little Engine That Could"?

Beavis knows something about DNS. He's so smart.

Looks like Beavis earned himself a complaint to net, for
port scanning.

Yup. And getting your account pulled on account of portscanning would be a
cherry on top.

Thank you for your kookfart, Beavis.

Change server locale

In comp.os.linux.setup co.uk:

[..]

Iirc the redhat documentation provides an overview about
/etc/sysconfig/ files which should mention a few settings. For UK
settings, check what is available to you through 'locale -a'
('man locale').

Good luck
